I bought the EL-00 without the Fishman in 2008 and it is the *highest quality & best-playing Epiphone* I've ever played or owned, and I'm a fan of Epi's. Especially considering it played perfectly right out of the box (I bought it brand-new), I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking for an affordable small body or "blues body" type guitar. Its small body also makes for a great project guitar; you could easily mount a humbucker in the smaller-than-usual soundhole, and have yourself a pretty cool custom!
Well it's a $300 axe. What do you want it to do, sound like a D-41, make you a cup of coffee and start your damn car? I play Martin and Guild for acoustic, I bought this one to put it in Nashville tuning, which I might not do, since I'm so impressed with it as it is. It sounds damn good right out of the box, the action was acceptable, could have been a hair lower. The intonation was fine. Run through my Acoustic AG60 amp it sounds great! I would gig with this guitar. Get over your name-brand snobbery, Epi makes some fine and affordable guitars, If their name wasn't associated with Gibson, I think they would be much better off. Folks think all their models are cheap Gibson knockoffs, which they are not. You can't get a Gibson like this, nor an Emperor Regent, nor a Broadway. Long story made short, this is a fine guitar for TWICE or THREE TIMES the money.
on the money you are Epiphone was a top maker in America .. you speak Nashville .. you know many country Bands went all Epiphone .. Ernist Tubb was the First one to Fit the Trubidors with All Epiphone .. John Lennon George Harrison performed with Vintage Epipfones on stage many times and in Recordings .. John Lee Hooker played Epiphone Robert Johnson as well . robert Johnson liked Martin and Epipfone ..If you can find a jazz Guitar with T M I in the head stock and get it right .you have something .. T M I made guitars mandolins and Fiddles .. back in the 30s or 40s when Martin Had the Fire T M I purchased all the woods from martin and went into production . WWII X bracing . it had a sound of its own .
this is a very good guitar.makes a lot of people mad because they paid a big price for a name on a guitar.98% of all guitars the sound comes from the player not the guitar.times will never be like they used to be.it don't matter what name is on the guitar if you buy it new you will never ever get close to what you paid for it when you sell it.i learned that the hard way.if it has a solid top and you like the way it plays buy it and keep it.
Guys need to realize this is a seriously cheap guitar...it is tremendous value. I like it because it is a thinner profile which suits me cause I basically only play electrics. I tried this next to 3 or 4 other similar priced guitars from brands like Fender and Washburn and this was the standout.
I walked into GC last August to buy a gibson j45. They had 3 to choose from. I ended up with a Masterbilt aj500rce. I am happy as hell. I even passed on Martin. I can go to Hawaii with the money I saved.
The sound from the pickup only makes it sound as though the music was playing through a speaker that's been wrapped in a towel. Decent guitar, though I'd probably go for the standard EL-00 without the Fishmans.
For 300 bucks I bought this brand new I wanted something better than the old warped commander I was learning on I got it home and only then I realized it had elctronics bonus! I never use an amp with it I just play the shit out of it and beat on it. Its in the shop now getting a setup and new strings I love this little beast I have heard better guitars and played better as well but you if you are new to guitar and want a decent cheaper guitar this is it for sure. I will play this thing till it falls apart or somehow it sounds like crap I played a gibson identical to this guitar and the sound to me was the same the difference was 3000 dollars for the gibson. I want a larger body accoustic now but this little epi worth it totally for the price.
Well, I've played several acoustic Gibsons and Epiphones. BOTH are very hit-and-miss. BTW, a music store is not necessarily the best place for guitar testing, specially because usually guitar strings are not "fresh" and the setup leaves a lot to be desired.
Nice sounding guitar for the money. The mic sound is excellent. The pre-amped sound isn't very good. It has that half under water sound that I always associate with cheaper onboard electronics. Still for short money it's a good little player.
Okay. I've been a fan of this guitar from the start. Yes, cheaper guitars have their place. Plenty of legends play Epi. Some are better than others. I have a Masterbilt acoustic & it's great (different animal though). But, I'll have to say after this, I'm not a fan of that Fishman. Maybe swap out the Fishman for the AKG. Yeah, mount the AKG inside. Lol
I just want something that size, scale, and come set up that way (low and easy) that has better sound. It just lept out in playability when I tried several randoms acoustics at Sam Ash. The finish seems heavy on this one, I guess that has part to do with the dull tone idk. Acoustics that sound better 'never' are that easy to play for a combination of reasons. My Taylor 510 sounds great but even with low setup is still hard to play. Maybe bigger frets would help idk. I think this Epi has larger frets.
For the price I picked a Fender cf140 sce . I wanted a small body guitar and it has Fishman® Presys™ Pickup System with active on-board pre-amp and tuner, and it doesn't have a stupid E on the pick guard. To each his own.
nice sounding Epi ......acoustically. That pickup sounds crap; quacky, a bit like the old Ovations. Why do they insist on putting electronics in a cheap guitar? Totally unnecessary, put the money into the actual guitar not a crappy pickup!!!
I can only speak for myself, but when I got my first acoustic, the built in tuner was a real selling point. I get that, that will seem nuts to a proper guitarist, but the market likely dictates that there is a huge swathe of budget acoustic players who cannot tune perfectly by ear, therefore cannot tell the tonal advantages of stuff they don't even understand, and will probably even sound better with a built in tuner than a better guitar that's out of tune
Why put all the compression on the mic'd signal??? It's not helpful for a review of how a guitar really sounds. The attack envelope is completely distorted...
These are interesting little guitars, inspired by the Kalamazoo (Gibson's budget brand in the 30s and 40s) small bodies that blues legends like Robert Johnson made famous... About half of what Epiphone produces is shit, but they do have few gems even outside the Masterworks collection and this little guy is one of them. It still lacks compared to all solid wood options, but it's not bad. They need to make a model that cost $50 less and comes without electronics because the pickup system is garbage. You can hear that in this demo. Put a microphone in front of it or invest in an option like the K&K Pure or Pure Mini soundboard pickup, or look at the LR Baggs Anthem.
no its all solid i own one, love that thing you get way more guitar then you pay for thats for sure, replace the plastic stuff with bone and it sounds like a several thousand dollar piece
The money you pay for a expensive guitar, makes you hear better, I think. I have a parkwood all solid guitar, about 450€, for four years, and I challenge to find a new J-45, or D-28 that it sounds better. I have this Epi too, and with a little set up (tusq nut and saddle, and wood pins), can desmonstrate that it sounds better than this video, through a inexpensive zoom h2.
I have and epi 00 that I bought about 10 years ago. Looks the same minus the logo on the pick guard. Sounds about the same - the tone is boxy and not good for cowboy strumming, but very good for blues and other stuff. Sounds a bit like a muted full size guitar, lots of missing high end, in a good way for some stuff. The electronics they have added seem to sound like horse ass to the point of being pointless.
Jesus Christ that fishman sounded like a piece of garbabe. Otherwise it's a lot better sounding than the Loar. At least from what I can tell from these videos.
By walking into a music store, looking at them and playing them. The epi is good, but it does not sing like the gib. The epi sounds 'cheap'. It's not a bad thing to me. I bought one, but I would have bought the gib in a heart beat if I had the money to burn.
I've owned one, crappiest sounding guitar i've ever played, good for nothing but Blues and that slim taper D profile is just awful.... maybe if they didn't cover it in 1/4inch polyurethane and left the neck V or C shape like on the older (pre pro) versions it would be a decent guitar.
Makes me laugh when they review cheap guitars. They make them sound like a $2000 Martin running them through a microphone attached to a computer running guitar rig or some other software. Every cheap acoustic I've played has sounded like a piece of shit.

Play a Zager ZAD800M and you'll change your mind

khingdheano these are great little guitars i have two of them, a VS (the none pickup one) and a PRO!!
So its got the usual cheapo high action. someone paying you for this crap?

I purchased a AJ500RCE this year. I gladly made the choice over Martin and Gibson. This guitar is nice, but I wanted the dreadnought sound.
.well thought out and written post...thx

I have one of the Original Bluesmasters and besides being fun to play it also sounds great. Even as i get older it is still an easy guitar to play.
that pickup sounds like a casio keyboard guitar patch.
I'll add that the build quality looks good. Looks better than gibsons that come from the USA, however, you can be sure the wood is a much lower grade.
Seems great ,for me not a strumming guitar as much it's a fingerstyle also blues guitar ,slim neck too ,very nice in the price point .
I literally just bought this guitar and it's real good! I only got disappointed that it does not have built in tuner but all in all it's still good!
Luckily you can get tuners easily on your phone! I've never liked pre-amp-mounted tuners. Never found them to be that accurate
The sound from the pickup only makes it sound as though the music was playing through a speaker that's been wrapped in a towel. Decent guitar, though I'd probably go for the standard EL-00 without the Fishmans.

The back and sides are laminated; the top is solid.

Masterbilt rocks. I just bought an aj500rce. I played Gibson j45 1/2 hour b4 I bought the epi.

this demo makes the pickup sound way worse than it is, i use this guitar live and the pickup sounds great
The Nothing Channel amen bro.i have one .love it.tweak the dials haters
Ben Hort , but do you put it through pedals or a di box to get that good sound?
Is it good for fingerstyle ?
Elijah Hagen I'm not sure, but I think it's pretty deacent for fingerstyle!! But there are better ones :-)

YEAH! 100% right
rmzzz76 I mean there kinda is a mic in front of it in this demo
How can we be sure, by faith?
Sounds a little like the Gibson Everly
Not a bad little guitar. Nice playing.
Please review the Epiphone Texan !!!
Great guitar for the money!
no its all solid i own one, love that thing you get way more guitar then you pay for thats for sure, replace the plastic stuff with bone and it sounds like a several thousand dollar piece
The only solid part is the top. Epi Spec sheet : SPECIFICATIONS
Body
select mahogany
Top

if you think the electrified demo sounds like pooh check out the review by
Alexandre Fagundes - it has a better sound on that one

Looses alot of the high end with just the fishman

Made in Indonesia, guyz!
Laminated sides & back, all makers hate to be honest about
i,m going to buy one
no comments yet? well "leave it like you found it" I always say.... ah damn it
THANK YOU
Jesus Christ that fishman sounded like a piece of garbabe. Otherwise it's a lot better sounding than the Loar. At least from what I can tell from these videos.
Good bang for buck but that sonotone is completely horrid so would need to be changed
I wish they would come out with more finishes, Epiphone's sunbursts look so cheap. If they did a natural finish i would be all over this guitar.
Under-saddle pickups = Quack Quack
By walking into a music store, looking at them and playing them. The epi is good, but it does not sing like the gib. The epi sounds 'cheap'. It's not a bad thing to me. I bought one, but I would have bought the gib in a heart beat if I had the money to burn.
Sounds pretty good for an Epiphone...never mind it's $300
A sound that is pretty stale. Not an inspiring sound and too much mid and treble. Tinny. I guess not for me.
Tasty.
Nice I’m 70th comment..
Nice instrument, but it might have been better to get an actual guitar player to preview it.
Everybody’s fuckin John Mayer in the comment section. Where’s your video ?
@@briancorcoran8266 hey hes got a couple fans lol

Must be you.
I won’t consider it even if it is for Free for a premium Epiphone. Sounds terrible.
Lol. You pay 5k for a name brand and found not much diff??? Got stiffed eh???? Haha
