No, they didn’t give us a tape of it. Just the prizes. I recorded it on my VCR but tape is old, viewed many times, and a mess now. Tried to transfer it to a DVD but it didn’t come out.
This was a joy to see, and I miss Bill more for it-he was hilarious and made the game his. I feel every host has a definitive game, and this is it. I enjoy the format overall-the main game is rather simple, but the laughs make up for it. Solid bonus round. I agree-this should have had a longer American run.
I've done some research regarding that Saturday college football promo at 23:36, and it was on September 14, 1985, making this the final week KCOP aired Every Second Counts (Sept. 9-13), airing at 3 a.m. that week.
BUT as mentioned numerous times, the only two of the five major markets that cleared it were Los Angeles and Chicago (and San Francisco, Washington, and Detroit among the then-top 10); several others including Dallas, Philadelphia, Boston, Phoenix, Atlanta, and of course *NEW YORK CITY* said "Forget it!"
I've been told San Francisco DID carry it-- on KOFY. (Well, KTZO at the time...) And an ad for the show on Game Show Wiki says Washington, D.C. did carry it-- on WJLA.
Well, WSB here in Atlanta could've picked up Every Second Counts since WAGA and WXIA already had "PM Magazine" and "Hour Magazine" (both of them also Group W shows) respectively.
Wink Martindale uploaded a pilot of a revamped version of this show called TRICKY BUSINESS. Same producer, Bill back as host, but this time it was single players earning money instead of time, and a new bonus round in which the winning player had to identify the two categories a list of items contained, with the car still the top prize for getting 6 in 60 seconds. The theme music was the Spike Jones version of YOU ALWAYS HURT THE ONE YOU LOVE(instrumental portion).
Every Second Counts had a British version host by the late TV magician Paul Daniels and a Australian version host by controversial television presenter Paul Henry.
That latter version was actually from New Zealand, not Australia. Just saying. BTW, Spain had a version for Antena 3 as well, called Los Segundos Cuentan. Only lasted from 1990-91 over there.
Was it in the Pittsburgh market? I know WPXI did overnight game shows (how I heard of Trump Card) and WPGH did them, too. Was it a game show that ended up on USA Network for its block, as well? I don't know their lineup pre 1988, and even that Era is fuzzy to me besides Press Your Luck.
I’m going to tell you the truth, this is the kind of game show scandal I want to see. No clever coughing fool, No bad-luck Barry who went on a show and won past the limit, No rigging, No name-changing nincompoop, Just a story about when good becomes evil.
While I did picture this show being on KPIX (which Group W owned at the time) in SF, KOFY (then KTZO) actually had it over there. Channel 20 also carried Anything for Money that year.
The airdate of this episode is from 9/9-9/13/1985,could well be a rerun from March 1985 however. The airdate here comes from a web search showing that those college football teams played together on games played on those dates

I wish there were more of these on youtube. Instead we get the goofy and quickly uninteresting Match Game by the bucket. Bill Rafferty is funnier than all those celebs and Gene Rayburn by a mile.
My husband and I were on this show in 1985! We won everything including the car! Wish I could find our episode
This may sound like a dumb question… But they didn’t give you a copy of the tape for being a contestant? I always wondered if game shows did that.
No, they didn’t give us a tape of it. Just the prizes. I recorded it on my VCR but tape is old, viewed many times, and a mess now. Tried to transfer it to a DVD but it didn’t come out.
Game shows can do it nowadays

Great post...great show...
yikes...he went from game show to idiot in 16 yrs...

yes it was picked up. it aired in syndication for a year
BUT as mentioned numerous times, the only two of the five major markets that cleared it were Los Angeles and Chicago (and San Francisco, Washington, and Detroit among the then-top 10); several others including Dallas, Philadelphia, Boston, Phoenix, Atlanta, and of course *NEW YORK CITY* said "Forget it!"
And then it became huge hit in Britain after the BBC picked it up and began airing the UK version in 1986, which lasted 7 years.
I've been told San Francisco DID carry it-- on KOFY. (Well, KTZO at the time...)
And an ad for the show on Game Show Wiki says Washington, D.C. did carry it-- on WJLA.
Well, WSB here in Atlanta could've picked up Every Second Counts since WAGA and WXIA already had "PM Magazine" and "Hour Magazine" (both of them also Group W shows) respectively.
And Sacramento's KOVR carried ESC.

The lock sound in the bonus round sounds like the clock in the Winners Circle on Pyramid, slightly different, here, though.

@@andrewschroy6368 I've been living in New Zealand for over 25 years.
I remember that old KCOP 13 logo.
I still remember that crude violin joke.
The UK version lasted for nine series - there's an episode from 1993 on UA-cam.
There's an episode from 1989 as well.
That college football commercial at 23:36 promoted what would be the first ever night home football game for Ohio State.
"You made my wife say chew it or screw it..." LOL. That's gotta suck saying that to a youth pastor's wife.
And Bill's reaction...LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This show never aired in the Cleveland or Youngstown, Ohio market.
Would make since why I never even heard of it until a decade ago. Then again, I don't think that Group W liked to do game shows.
Do you remember how long Lara & Paul have been together?
can not hear it, my sound does work and is up high

Yeah but you have to remember… If you’re talking about Paul, the “scandal“ happened 15 years later… Or so for all we know anyway.
Actually this show was picked up. Lasted one season
I wonder if this aired on many of the Group W O&O stations (being that it was co-produced by Group W Productions).
While I did picture this show being on KPIX (which Group W owned at the time) in SF, KOFY (then KTZO) actually had it over there. Channel 20 also carried Anything for Money that year.
not one comment about the ending...I guess I'll be first: wow! that's seriously f***ed up!
The airdate of this episode is from 9/9-9/13/1985,could well be a rerun from March 1985 however. The airdate here comes from a web search showing that those college football teams played together on games played on those dates
And no one noticed that was Shadoe Stevens in the Federated ad
Isn’t it amazing… The type of new stories that can make a story like “a teenager in Florida murdered his teacher…“ Fade to black.😮
ESC should hsve lasted longer
+James Greek Well... it did on the BBC... :D
What if it were brought back hosted by Beth Chapman in a strapless gown?
No Beth Chapman! Definitely not her! She's fat and ugly
Always thought she was a knockout
10:38 Harsher in hindsight.

Fred said Yabba dabba doo not Barney
I wish there were more of these on youtube. Instead we get the goofy and quickly uninteresting Match Game by the bucket. Bill Rafferty is funnier than all those celebs and Gene Rayburn by a mile.
KCOP had this show?
Fred Flintstone always said that.
Funny!
Patty got embarrassed, and her husband had his hand, on his face. Embarrassing question, to say the least.
I think it was the last question.
Why did Bill Rafferty had to say that for?
Mommy and Daddy?!
Raunchy way to say it.
Paul got arrested in 2001.
Win this piece of shit car
Patty was confused.
Mommy and Daddy?! Maryanne might get upset.
A Librarian wouldn't like that question.
Mommy and Daddy?
Bill Rafferty got busted, by a preacher. Patty must have been saved.
Librarian got embarrassed.
Patty didn't like that question.
Patty was really embarrassed, with that category.
Bozo?!
