Mt Rosa. Colorado Springs, CO. Solo. #75

  • Mt. Rosa is a pretty mellow/high speed trail most of the way with cool views. There are several spurs off of it if you're looking for a bigger challenge. The ones I tried got too gnar to continue solo but I really should've checked the "right" at the 4-way intersection. Next time! Anyway the playground is really cool, I think you could spend an hour there easily. Once you go beyond that there are a couple serious obstacles as it winds down into the trees and canyon. Could spend a whole day exploring the 5 or so trails in the network. Have fun out there!

    My Tires:
    amzn.to/2whk2MF
    I love these tires. The only others I'd take are the BFG KO2 but they don't make them in this size and the KM2's are amazing. You can probably imagine the amount of driving I do weekly and how much abuse my tires get. These things last, everyone knows this, you've seen it in my videos.
    My Tire Deflators:
    amzn.to/2nYVxzU
    These tire deflators have many $15 copies but the others just don't hold up or are inaccurate. I don't know what the deal is, they look identical to me too but read the reviews- they're bad. I've been using these Staun's for over a year and never had a problem, I air down a lot. Set them at the trail so your tires will be the same temp when you get to the trail next time.
    My Compressor:
    amzn.to/2PuerLH
    There are better ones but I'd just get a bigger VIAIR, not someone different. Airs up all my 33's from 14psi to 37psi in less than 10 minutes. The in-line gauge is inaccurate when the compressor is on because of the pressure passing through. You need to switch it off to get a real reading. You can combat this by figuring out what incorrect reading corresponds to the real one. When mine is right at 3 Bar (43psi) it's slightly over 37psi. I put it on another tire and then use my real gauge to set it exactly.
    My Microphone:
    amzn.to/2P1S3sb
    My microphone is the worst good mic you can get. BUT don't be fooled, it's a very good mic. Picture me getting in my car for the 50th time after I just ran up and down a hill... for the 50th time. Do you see me disconnecting my mic and gingerly setting it in a case? No. It stays connected to the tripod, gets thrown into my plastic cargo area and bounces around with other heavy items until the next one. It gets terrible interference from WiFi so you must make sure that it's off on your camera or phone. If you are trying to use this with your phone you need to get a TRS to TRRS cable which RODE makes. This is required because your phone will think the mic is headphones.
    My Tripod:
    amzn.to/2o8h6hL
    I went through 2 tripods in 1 month, a $20 and a $30. Buy it nice or buy it thrice. This thing gets opened and closed MANY times per week in rain, snow, dirt, and even in the middle of rivers. I love the 2-stage legs so i can make it real low in 2sec instead of shortening all the legs.
    My Drone:
    amzn.to/2KUGWAp
    You can tell how easy it was to progress through my videos. Besides maybe five times, you've seen every bit of flying since I got it. I don't fly in the city and I don't go to the mountains and not make a video. It is VERY easy to use.
    My Drone ND Filters:
    amzn.to/2MHV0R0
    The filters are a must. Again I have the worst ones and I am still very pleased. My first use was video #35 and I think it is very apparent. Illinois Gulch (#34 obviously) has a completely white sky, way too much blue. I'm still not even good about selecting the right one or changing them out but it's 10x better than nothing.
    My Books:
    amzn.to/2wmd20O CO
    amzn.to/2BzDIBc CO North
    amzn.to/2ByPuvy Moab
    FunTreks books are great. I like to bring as much information as possible when I go to the middle of nowhere. They have coordinates and maps for everything, very in-depth info on sturdy pages.
    This is the stuff I've tested, this is what I like. I am very hard on all of my equipment frequently and it still works. I back all of these items and each company seems to back their product very well too. I guess it's easy to offer a warranty when your stuff doesn't break.

      there are rumors! i saw some concepts that scared me greatly though haha, one looked like an Xterra/Juke/Outback mix and the other was like a worse Rogue. if they do anything to mess up the iconic roof line or fenders people who enjoyed the first ones won't bite.

    • @JKsouthwest
      @JKsouthwest 5 років тому +1

      It definitely needs to be truck frame based, no unibody. I agree that the roof rack and stepped body lines with bulged fenders made it unique. I know there is a market for it, look how Toyota dominating the overlanding craze.

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  5 років тому

      @@JKsouthwest definitely. also going from 1st to 2nd gen they made the fenders so much more square and boss haha. i thought the 2nd gens were lame and bulky at first but every time i walk up to it i love it so much. the 1st gens look kind of soft to me now haha. hopefully they keep progressing that way, i want everything square. looking at the coolest offroad vehicles it seems like most people want square. Wrangler, Land Rovers, H1, G Class, Samurai etc. that new Jimney is like the coolest new car i've ever seen haha.

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  3 роки тому

      thank you! not sure of your experience level but if you skip the side routes you could probably do it.. at least most of it. the trail does have some off camber sections but is mostly obstacle free, TrailsOffroad has it at a 3 out of 10.

  • @nickp4836

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  5 років тому

      thanks for the feedback! you don’t think the hard cuts are funny? haha. but the reason it’s like that is so the trail is in linear order. ideally the trail ends at the top of a mountain, i get all the tech stuff on the way up and have a drone finale. this is also great because switching between camera/drone takes like 10mins each time and i hate it. THIS trail ends in the trees with no views and would be a lame finale so i had to chop it in. you’ll like the next video though, it’s beautiful Long Canyon in Moab. filmed the few mellow obstacles on the way up and then all drones on the way down. Day Canyon Point (which is next after that) is even better. pretty tech the whole way with almost no drone except the end and then some sunset Easter Eggs on Mineral Bottom. thanks again for watching!

    How do you have your spare tire mounted on your roof? Just using some tie downs?

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  4 роки тому

      i made a # with paracord as tight as possible. then 4 ratchet straps around tire and both rails/crossbars. this pulls it down into the paracord “basket” so it floats an inch or two above the roof.

    Came here to see if anybody yelled at you about the playground area. I’m getting scolded in my most recent upload about that entire thing being “illegal access” since it’s not mapped on the USFS MVUM.

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  Рік тому +1

      yea i just checked it, there’s not a leg off to the east on the MVUM like TrailsOffroads’ waypoint 7… i think you have good responses and i agree- they’ve obviously been there a long time and were made by something other than trucks. while i also agree that there shouldn’t be signs everywhere saying don’t go here, don’t go there, if that entire dome with trails up and down it were an issue in a heavy use area like Colorado Springs i feel like USFS would have put up a couple “restoration area” signs. i guess per the MVUM it is off-trail ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ definitely best to err on the side of caution.

    • @wannabepatrol
      @wannabepatrol Рік тому +1

      @@BRollOffroad I guess I’m a little annoyed by the ambiguity to some of the rules and why things are the way they are. If they actually cared, I feel like something would be done about it. As you said, signs or chain off access to this area. Granted that could have happened and people took them down but I don’t know. Seems pretty easy to make restricting access up there a little more permanent if they really wanted too.

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  Рік тому +1

      yea i mean sometimes they just put a couple logs or rocks across it and it’s obvious you’re not supposed to be there plus don’t have a man made sign for a win-win solution. i also usually trust that TrailsOffroad has done the research before doing a write up that tells people what is and isn’t ok. i guess they have so many people across the country submitting information it might be hard to keep track of. i’ll take it as a learning experience and do a little more of my own research from now on… but for all we know they asked a ranger who was like “oh the playground at the top? yea that’s fine!” so who knows.

    • @wannabepatrol
      @wannabepatrol Рік тому +1

      @@BRollOffroad lol!!!! Legit!!!! I didn’t even know about this area till I saw you video a year or so ago. Cool little spot and it’s unfortunate if you’re not supposed to be there. It’s very unique. I very well may go talk to the Pikes Peak District Ranger office to see what their thoughts are. They’re here in Colorado Springs. Just want some clarification and see if I can understand why more has not been done to block it off they actually don’t want people up there. I’m sure it’ll be a “resources and funds” excuse, plus I’m sure they love giving people fines and making some money from people not doing the research to find what is and is not accessible.
