- Van Life Europe Begins!! When we did Van Life in the United States we couldn't believe how cheap you could travel. Now 2 years later we have finally shipped our camper van to Europe. We share all the costs and details so you can do this one day too. Traveling internationally has always been our favorite but we hated moving from place to place with our suitcases. U2 did it 🏅 made shipping a Van engaging viewing!! After grad school and a year wandering all over Europe.. speaking haphazard German.. I shipped my VW campervan from Germany to San Diego. In the late 80s it had hardly been done before. It arrived in 1 piece 😁

@@ian.and.ana. oh yes it was.. thank you for your reply. In our travels through all of Europe we rarely found anybody else doing Vanlife. Just tents in campgrounds.
It was so uncommon that in fact when we were traveling for example in Northern Greece .. in every little Hamlet.. the mayor insisted that we spend the night at their home and have dinner with them. Ha! It was the first time we had turkish-greek ☕ coffee. We drink all the grounds at the bottom of the cup...not knowing. We were wide-awake for 2 furkin days 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫. .😁😅

Probably easier and cheaper just to sell it and buy another one. Plus how long can they have it abroad and not have tax/customs issues?

I’m a US citizen and planning to stay in Europe for a year and because of the 90 days in 180, I was looking for another options and I found that Italy had something called Elective Residency Visa. All you need to do is to show bank statement for 32k euros per person and Airbnb reservation for one year and since you have the van, you can cancel the Airbnb after you submit your documents.
This is amazing info! We knew about the bilateral agreement with Italy but didn’t know the requirements. Definitely gonna try this out this year and make a video about the entire process ❤️❤️

Great story, great couple, cool life! I’m starting to follow you guys. And now I’m really thinking of earning enough money for 6month- 1 year trip! Temporarily I live in Poland and because of lots of things happening in my life I feel like when the war is finished I would love to travel nonstop 😊

Guys, you MUST visit Ghent, Bruges, and Brussels before you leave. Belguim is SO awesome ! Ghent and Bruges have got to be some of the most Instagram worthy cities in Europe.

I am planning to do the same in middle of next year, but I have a question, how were you deal with the registration and insurance in your state? I called the DMV in my state (NJ) and my insurance what I plan to do, they all said I have to cancel the state registration, return the plate and insurance, but I know we need the US license plate to drive in Europe, correct? Can you share you experience? Thanks!

We're jealous! My wife and I are thinking about doing the same thing and this video helps to answer a lot of questions-Thank You!!! We are worried about a few other things though-driver’s license, van insurance (we converted our van ourselves) and anything that we may have not thought of. Hi Ian and Ana, we are thinking of doing the shipment the other way around (from Europe to the USA) so this is a very exciting video! I was wondering whether there were any delays in the shipment of your van? And whether things got stolen or damaged on the way?You mentioned things were the same but I was wondering whether you maybe found out later that some small things got stolen for example? We would love to hear from you because that may take some of our worries away haha! 🥰
Its a Fiat Ducato. Italian cars are notorious in Europe for electrical isues. So its not a Dodge. Fiat bought Crysler. You ll see them in Europe.

The only thing that puzzles me is why you chose a Ram van instead of, for instance, a Sprinter. I can imagine that service for a Ram might prove to be a bit difficult in Europe. Have a great time in my continent!
We picked the Ram because we bought it already built out from our friends. A sprinter would be more expensive

I have shipped my full home several times over but never a car because of EU requirements but it would be helpful what you guys had to do for paperwork. Thanks !!
You forgot to mention if you had to make special car insurance arrangements to drive around in Europe. Or are you going to cover that if you get into a traffic incident? LOL

We just work around the 180 day Schengen rule. So we will leave after 90 days and head to places not in the Schengen zone like Eastern Europe or the UK

The world's largest visa free zone is not the Schengen area. It's the Belarus/Russia visa free zone. There are six countries larger than the Schengen area!

As long as you don’t have any meaningful/expensive items in the van I don’t think there is much to worry about

For us this is a business expense. The van was a write off because we create UA-cam videos. All this travel can be written off 😉
