Being and individual working on your own creative path will get a lot further in life than becoming like the rest of the socialising sheep with high EQ. Spend more time becoming a creative individual Freak than listening to this basic person.

      X ho You said high EQ is holding people back. An high EQ can be pretty usefull in life. Being able to understand each other well can have many possitive things. You can work well with co-workers, which makes your work much easier. You can make others feel better by being able to acknowledge and talk about their problems. You can meet interesting people with their opinions and storys. And you can meet people who can help you get further in life. Im not a social person myself, but in my point of view a high EQ is pretty usefull

    12/20... but honestly the test was really stupid... the emotions didnt look genuine at all, they all were clearly faking it and exaggerating the expressions, and didnt even look serious about it. Half the time they just looked amused at their own faces they pulled.

    I wonder how would you even measure and record someone's EQ? Is there like a "humility" test you can take?

    • @GuthriePrentice
      @GuthriePrentice 10 років тому +3

      No worries about taking a humility test, just remember you always need to be learning. If one adopts critical thinking and the scientific method as the paramount way to evaluate EVERYTHING they come across, then one will remember they don't know everything and actively need to learn and analyze more. This way, you consistently ask for feedback from people you know on various issues, and analyze for the good bits that match existing data. Just remember to ask them to lay out their arguments in full and back up where their ideas come from, so you don't miss a detail in the full analysis. I know it's difficult to do, but we all need to do it; especially in the information age.

    "Anyone can improve upon it"... Really? Well, I just need to make sure that I have those five categories...
    1. Self-Awareness, not really...
    2. Self-Regulation... yeah.. nah.
    3. Social Skills... Really? I mean, REALLY really? I am on UA-cam at 3 in the morning, commenting on a video... Does anyone think I have a life beyond this screen? If your answer is yes, then you are sadly mistaken.
    4.Motivation... I sleep until 3 or 4 in the afternoon, and even when I do get up, I just stay in my bed on my laptop all day. I am about the least motivated person on the planet.
    5. Empathy. I actually have Asperger's Syndrome, which for those who don't know, Aspeger's actually prevents me from feeling empathy... so... nope, I don't have that either... So, Laci... can I improve on my EQ, or am I doomed to be emotionally dumb for the rest of my life?

      I also have Asperger's Syndrome. It doesn't mean that you are an emotionless psychopath, it just means that you think differently then most. Like Laci said if work on it you can have a high Emotion Intelligence.
      Then world domination will be a breeze for us.

    • @daemonicfae
      @daemonicfae 10 років тому +1

      Asperger's doesn't prevent you from feeling empathy. It may make it harder in some situations, but can you really say you never understand how anyone is feeling at all? Just because, for example, you can't tell if someone is upset, doesn't mean you can't understand smiles and laughter or horrific sobbing.
      All of these categories can be improved upon. Asperger's can make it harder, but it's not impossible. You just seem to not want to. I was the same way for quite a while, with the same excuse. You're selling yourself short, man.

    that test sucked! The actors were terrible at portraying emotions. For a lot of those I have never seen someone make those expressions when feeling that emotion. And no I'm not just miffed about my result, I got a 16/20, because I learned what they were expecting. Who the hell makes a "I'm holding my breath while scrunching my face together," face when in pain?! Most people open their mouths or clench their teeth. And who puts a finger to their eye when their embarrassed? Most put a hand to their face to hide their embarrassment, not a "fake tear" gesture with their finger.

    For any kind of relationship there's a sort of formula to this:
    1. (Duration): The time you spend with the person.
    2. (Closeness): The more you are physically close to a person affects the psychologic closeness after an amount of time. This can also just be the same room like for example the kitchen or the bus you're sitting in.
    3. (Frequency) Obviously that's the frequency of the meetings which even don't have to be planned together with the other person. It can also just be the amount of seeing each other and realizing that she/he's there.
    4. (Intensity) That's how good you are in satisfying the needs of the other person with verbal and nonverbal behaviors.

    One of the problems is that almost of all these traits are viewed negatively in the US. They are down played at best when not being actively vilified in the media. They are seen as 'weak' traits. Sadly also seen as 'feminine' traits which are almost always viewed negatively in the US as well.

    • @zsupersaiyan
      @zsupersaiyan 11 років тому +1

      So traits ARE inherently weak. Evolution destroys those with weak traits. Those with weak traits, i.e. those who break down to cry whenever faced with a tough situation, cannot function properly in society and cannot contribute strong leadership to it, so they should be abused until they work off these bad traits.

    • @danr.5017

      zsupersaiyan Evolution only destroys traits that result in death before one can breed. Society however has evolved to protect it's weakest members. A society that allows it's own population to thin is doomed to failure.
      Not everyone is meant to be a leader. Case and point being that most people living protected assembly line jobs is the basis for industrialized society. Simple jobs where personality is moot and the challenges people are required to face are minimal.
      Evolution cannot breed out these traits because they have no effect on anything.

    • @zsupersaiyan
      @zsupersaiyan 11 років тому

      *****
      Societies don't actually protect their weakest members. They protect members with no resources- yes- they protect members when they are pregnant, and they protect members from fighting each other by having rules... however it is against their interest to have members that are inherently weak. That's why ants banish members of their colonies that catch a disease. That's why wolves bully their omega wolf. That's why most animal mothers kill any offspring they sense is weak. That's why bullying even happens, when someone is too weak to contribute to the tribe positively, that member just gets killed. And yes, not everyone is suited for leadership. That's an alpha position. You can be an epsilon and do bland work if you want. But I'm sure you'd rather raise your child to be alpha and teach him to keep a cool face when a situation gets hard to inspire all around him, like a true alpha-leader should.

  • @Zohirul-Jewel

    1. Self Awareness- Everyone has bad days from time to time, that's life. A lot of people are to self-absorbed to notice the emotions of others anyway.
    2. Self Regulation- Just work on it people, we can only control our-self.
    3. Social Skills- Some people are more of an introvert and some people are more of an extrovert. There is nothing wrong with that.
    4. Motivation - What you want determines what you need to do, if don't want anything you don't need to do anything. I think people usually do what they do based on what they want anyway.
    5. Empathy - It's hard to empathize with someone you can't relate to and you won't be able to relate to everyone since everyone is different one way or another. Different people have different up upbringings, thoughts, prescriptions, priorities, opinions and experiences.
    Nobody is stupid. People just have different straights and weaknesses.

    14/20 due to over thinking which is a constant problem to me. I think too much about how to react, whats going on, the outcome of said reaction, etc that I usually end up acting incorrectly or not at all. Add in being aloof and I end up getting in a lot of trouble with people mainly blood family. I'm simply not an emotionally expressive woman and that probably won't change.
    Still the test is too basic to get any worthwhile information that most probably already know.

      Same here. I'm always nervous talking to people (even to my family) and overly cautious to how people will react to what I say or to the expression I give so people always misunderstand me. In middleschool I would concentrate so hard on how people would view me that one person came up to me and asked why I always looked mad and hearing that kinda shocked me since I was never mad in the first place.

    14/20
    Here's the problem I have though:
    Took ages to do this, not because I'm bad at it, but because I necessarily don't think that people communicate like that, and even if they do - it will take you like 5 minutes to understand what they're saying/feeling to understand something that occurs in less than 5 seconds or such, just no time for that..
    The way I managed to have such a "relatively" high score is like staring at the picture and mirroring/mimicking the expression and trying to imagine in what situation I'd do that
    The other problem I have is the following: There are a lot of those that are "situational" based - like - how can Interest be an emotion ?? - it's usually a state of mind.. Pride - also - it's a State-of-mind, you can't just be proud for no reason, there just has to be one.. Though it's wise to be proud for no reason, cause then no-one can take it from you away - still - can't be just proud for no reason, lol.. :P
    The even funnier thing is the following: Last time I tested my EIQ was 28/100 - it's like - veeeeeeery low..
    IDK, but think that there's much more to EQ than it is to facial-expression reading or things like that, the drastic result difference probably shows
    Still - glad that I'm not a disaster at this though :)

      I got 18/20 first try. I've found that for some reason I'm gifted with being able to read people's emotions fairly well. (Much) More often than not, I can also usually tell when someone is lying. That being said, I have to agree with your "situational" conclusion. There was one, that I believe was "anger", but If I saw someone making that face, my assumption would be "strong focus while struggling with large stress". There's obviously no option for that, so I got it wrong.

    That EQ thing is a bit off. Some of the traits like empathy and self awareness are traits introverts have while great social skills and being very motivated are extrovert traits. • @McCAlexander

      introverts vs extroverts. bringing in personality types? yeah, I guess that is a related topic. but you should probably be aware that personality traits are not ultimatums. you most certainly can be both and most people fall somewhere between the spectrum. I think you will find that even you have behaviors that fall both introverted and extroverted. the other things about personality traits is that they are preferences and can be learned. someone who prefers to be introverted but masters the ability to be extroverted in situations as needed, genius.

    The test assumes that those features are what reflect how you feel independent of the rest of the face, which is why the actors looked like they were only told to pull those expressions (tongue looks more crazy than desiring... and that asian bloke looks like he's getting kicked up the ass when he's supposed to be * instantly * angry)... It would be interesting to see how effective it is if you had them watch film clips that would elicit those feelings, take pictures of their naturally feeling faces and then see if the test scores for the EQ test are proportionally the same for the real pictures.

    4) Low self esteem Or self despair/insecure
    5) Apathy
    Or another question which asks you
    1) Zealous
    2) Arrogance
    3) Headstrong
    4) Determined
    5) Over-zealous
    or (this one is for shits and giggles).....5) *Humble zealotry*????
    OK we're starting to get technical here....LOL
    1) Indifference
    2) Aloofness
    3) Snobbishness
    4) Aristocratic
    5) Sophisticated
    Come on man I'm not boasting here but those expressions in the test were a little too easy to make out.

  • @alphayourface

    Got 'em all... OK, I'm lying but I got most (18). I'd also like to add that context matters a lot for some of these things; there's such a thing as "resting bitch face" & some people that like to pretend they're happy, then end up killing themselves the next day. The most determining factor of your emotional quotient is how you relate to people & being genuinely concerned or interested in them. From this practice, you'll be called a "great conversationalist", even when you don't really say anything, because allowing people to be themselves, & openly emotional, is like two intellects having a brilliant conversation.
    P.S. I hope League of Legends - or other competitive online games - don't count, because I can become a total douche in those (I'm aware of it, so I am actively relaxed now). It's hard to remember that some people playing are just young kids, not good at that game, etc. & my first instinct is to think they're stupid. To all the people I treated this way in games; I'm sorry, I love you. Please don't uninstall the game like I suggested >.

    i came here expecting to receive the news that i'm the lamest person ever, but it turned out that i'm fine! And then she said social skills is the ability to communicate effectively, what you want and what you need, the bad thing is that i have tried everything possible to deliver my thoughts, and although people understood them they insisted to do the opposite thing and intentionally they keep judging, and they tended to retain their doubts and suspicions unjustly! And then she said empathy is considered the most important thing in the career success, and that people want to understand others and how they feel about things, this helps the person to provide excellent service or to understand what people around them need to do and be their best! And yet another bad thing here, which is i have observed that when people get provided with a good service or care they usually get spoiled and attempt to take advantage of it in a malicious and selfish way and seek what are not their rights!

  • @SpcGiraffe
    @SpcGiraffe 11 років тому +2

    13/20 but the quiz is clearly bunk because their faces aren't genuine; you can tell they are faked by actors. Though fortunately it does seem to act as a similar experiment. Those who immediately notice the emotions are unauthentic are better at recognizing true emotions whereas those who score well and do not realise the emotions are fake are better recognizing acted emotions. This would have very broad results but could be reformed into another test displaying both real and faked emotions and asking you to choose which are genuine.

    I know she is reading off of note cards written by someone else or a team, but many disagree with this. The idea of EQ or EI is fairly new and i wish discovery wouldn't falsely educate masses of people. Personality types have a lot to do with self awareness and empathy and motivation, and many of these things don't all come as a bundle. So it's not very fair to people as a whole to label someone as emotionally smart, it just simply doesn't exist, and is vanity to think of yourself as emotionally more educated than someone else. And why

In my point of view, it´s not possible to construct and follow a great carreer for yourself without working on your EQ; In my case, for instance I always try to improve on my weak points and try too undertand what should I do to improve them? Talking alone, focusing on your own misundertandings, and even asking for people, can helps you a lot into became an emotional intelligent person.

I practice meditation regularly. It helps a lot. Good luck. You are not alone. Respectfully.

      i have been in very deep depression under lets say from 8-23 i took medication under maby 10 years and i thougth it was gone several time and stop take the medication but it took from 1 month to 6 month and it was back... i been free from medication and i think i found a way out of the depressions hand on me. by doing this simple steps!.
      1. i found a small amount of group that having other problem like i did (not depression) and they had a plan how to conquer there thing.
      2. ask your self: what am i feeling sad/bad for? if you find the answer go to next part. now you understand why you are depressed. ask your self is it worth it to hold on too this sad/bad thing ? isent it time to let that be in the past and see what else i will find happening in the world?
      if you finding step 2 hard too do by your self? why not telling a friend/familymember/cousin or who ever to have them to ask this questions and you do the answer?
      3. when you are finding the answers you have to go over to action and say to your self: yes i have been scared for life BUT now it is time for me to move along (but you will always remember it) and see what is coming next (be curius it will be very important to succed other wise you will ceep walking around in the depressing thougths)
      for me i see this like a sort of meditation and if you feel this isent helping you there is professional about meditation (i am not i just did this steps and i came clean)
      you can always feel free to contact me about this steps or if you feel you need a helping hand or something was a little bit blurr.
      you have my faith in you to succed, and wishes you good luck, and a happy life :)

    I have all of them, although I do have trouble with empathy I will admit. Not sure why... I do feel sorry for people, but I have a hard time showing that I care. And you know... sometimes I actually just don't care. I am very self aware and have good self regulation. So the reason why I don't have as much empathy is because I want these other people to be self aware and be in charge of their own emotions like I am. I rarely bother people with my problems because a lot of the time I feel like they think the same way I do and want me to just get over it. For the record I usually do get over things... It's rare I don't.

Instead of getting stressed out as the parent is try figuring out to alleviate her world by calming your alert systems and solving the problem knowing that she is a human just like you with many issues. • @paulaandreadealmeidameinbe3354

    I believe that everything in life has to have a middle ground... whether professional or personal, but of course people always have a more active side. In my case, I consider myself an emotionally intelligent person because I have more characteristics on the emotional side (EQ), such as motivation, empathy, self-regulation, among others... than on the rational side (IQ). I tend to use emotion much more than reason in my life in general, which helps me a lot most of the time but on certain occasions ends up getting in my way, so I think we should have a balance because in any area of life we are in constant use and learning of intelligence, whether emotional or rational.
