Thank you to everyone who using the many ways to support my channel. It allows me to continue to make videos like this.
Great video, having 10 watts with almost no sun is a great job of the solar panel!
We just bought one of these last night. We used to go to at a few festivals every summer. Finding electric hookups can be difficult when it's first come, first served. At times, we would arrive a week before the event and all the sites were already gone. We had 2 Duracell power stations, which would run his cpap about 5 hours before dying. We've not gone in about 5 years, since my husband's cpap stopped us from camping rough. I'm excited to try this thing out. If it does what's claimed, we can get back to rough camping. I'm so excited!
I happy to hear that you’re getting back to camping. Let me know how it works out.
I am saddened by Goal zero customer service and quality control. Posted my experience will post more soon
Thanks for the review Steve. Looking at getting this unti.
I'd recommend you to get a DC (12V) charger for your camera battery. There's a pretty significant loss from converting DC (internal baterry) to AC (inverter) back to DC (camera battery).
Great advise! Thanks for the tip.
@@SteveDOES You're welcome! Whenever you can avoid that pointless conversion, you'll be saving power. Same applies to phones, drones, tablets, laptops...
Do you know if the battery is replaceable? What is the best way to transfer power from this to another battery? Would a Lighter plug attached to two alligator clips work?
Great review, thx from Down Under!
A good follow up video would be to compare this one to perhaps a cheaper option and then do some tests to see how the more inexpensive version compares. Good video! 👍🏻
Good idea. Once this quarantine is over I’d let to take this one out on a few camping trips before getting something like a Jakery to compare it to.
Nice review thanks
Thanks for this... very informative and easy to understand.... I will get saving I really want one 😀
Use a power strip, it won’t effect the outlet real-estate as long as you don’t go over your wattage 😉
You could do another test of charging on a cloudy day, the battery was already at 100%, so that is one option for why it was not inputting high numbers. I have a yeti 400 and love it, it does charge on cloudy days, but even in the sun if it is full, it doesn't keep charging.
I think the most important feature for me is, on a sunny day, how long does it take to charge up the Yeti 500x?
What about a sanyo tv and a dvd player
is Nomad 200 solar panel compatible for Yeti 500X?
Yes or is u just need a specific cable.anderdon to 8mm.
Great video 😊 thank you
Steve thanks for the presentation very informational. Question where did you buy it with the folding panels?
They sent one to me for testing but you can buy it on Amazon. I have a link to the product in the description of the video.
How long does it take for the Nomad 50 to recharge the Yeti 500x starting at empty? Nvm, found it. 12-24 hrs. :/
You are looking at 50watts. and that's a rough % on best cases.
The 500x can Maximum input (180W): 3 hrs charge in. So 4 50's = 200watts. correctly aiming them at sun during a morning to noon time. You'd beable to charge it before noon. If the day is sunny. Cloudy or fade clouds will decrease.
The best option always to think from. Is double your wattage income. If you want say 200watts. Get 400watts. This'll remove the dips of lower wattage during cloudier times, and will be less stress on having to aim all the time.
Thanks for the video Steve. So how long to charge the unit using only solar power?
For the nomad 50 panels that i have it says 12-24 hrs. So that will all depend on how much sun you're getting and that the panels are tilted to the prime angle for sun absorption.
Awesome review!!
Thanks Murphys! How's the video doorbell working out?
@@SteveDOES Anytime, we are fixing to order the doorbell kit and get it all set up. It became a delay with getting it ordered when all this covid stuff first came up. We are able to order from places more now and not worry about shipping we are about to order the kit. We live in a mobile home so had to find the correct kit to get it all set up to even have a doorbell in a mobile home lol
In Europa (except UK) we use 220 volt and other plugs (2 pins in stead of 3 and round-shaped) I'm afraid this doesn't match?
Hey did you happen to notice with your 500x that charging with USB-C only show’s a phantom output of 2w? i.e. INPUT 55w OUTPUT 2w? That’s with no other loads connected.
Thanks for the video it was cool, can you tell me if can you chain the yeti 50 Boulder and the nomad 50 together thank you
Use an extension cord or power strip for your camera battery
Yes, another great option!
Great review. I have an opportunity to receive any one of the following GZ 500x Yeti, Wagan Tech Lithium Cube 500 or Lion Safari LT Portable Generator. I'm choosing the GZ Yeti but curios if you had any experience with the other two and or if you would steer towards either of the other options. thanks!
can you connect an oil element for heating this, think about power outages in the villa how long can this an element that heats uoo 100 square meters
I own one of these I feel like being able to power a Trever is overrated, you can run an extent on cord from your home or vehicle.
Great review think this will be a great unit for many people
Is there an Adapter for 220V Europe?
In your testing how many watt hours did you see in real life using only output? Just got one and only seeing 350 watt hours before it dies
@Steve, do you ever sell products that you've reviewed? I need power for my cpap but all of the powerpacks in this range are outside what I can afford.
thank you!!!!
About your laptop connection. I have a 3-prong AC power adapter on my laptop and it looks like on the Yeti the ground plug is plugging into an empty space under the two prong is that true or is that an actual housing for 3 prong adapters? For me that ground safety issue is the deal breaker for me, thank you if you can answer.
These kind of devices don't require a ground because their not stationery.
There is no ground on most portable solar generator systems. So the hole under the plugs is just a hole for the ground port to fit in. You only require the two main ports for AC power.
The ground is only required on station systems like in your home because of surges going into the device. The ground is ment to refire the surge into the ground, vs straight into the device. but since these generators have a consistent uninterrupted power that's stable all the time. There isn't a need for it because surge power cannot pass from the battery to the device.
Will this power an electric pump for my paddle boards?
How long will it run a Stakol 53 Q portable Electric Refrigerator?
What about a mini portable heater 120 volts 1500 watts?
Can you plug in a low watt microwave or a Ninja air fryer?
can this be charged by solar and use AC at the same time?
They make awesome products but are still too expensive
Not exactly. Seeing the lithium cell, and the charge controller, with a cooling case, and outputs that keep it from running to hot. It's not far off from what you'd pay for a diy version and bigger. That's Going brand new, Not finding used or off-hand parts to do.
@@KillerRaptorr renogy 100watt panel about $100 - goal zero 100watt Boulder panel $250.
I want to buy goal zero but 2 1/2 times the money?
Wait so you did a 10+hr cook with a pellet smoker using that?
I have yet to do a 10+hr cook at all on the Traeger. BUT, i have done two 5.5hr cooks being plugged into the power station. So, pretty much the same thing, right?
@@SteveDOES yes that's actually pretty darn impressive
Can a portable generator power a whole house?
I'm sure they list it on the site, but would love to hear how long it lasted in real tests on using it for something but like a tv or the smoker. How long to charge back up in real world tests. Also if it had issues when getting at say 30% holding the load.
Those are great suggestions. I'll do a short follow up stress test video. I'm planning to smoke ribs this week. That's only a 5hr burn but i'm curious to see where the battery % is after that.
500watt unit. IE 100watt device 5hours. etc. This is pure 5-12volt out. 110/120volt AC will be slightly less due to conversion and transformer conversion power loss since even pure sinewaves will have a % of loss.
You need to understand your power demand and device power. IE 12volt at 5amps = 60watts. about 8hours of consistent use. So saying 'TV or Smoker' doesn't exactly say anything to lasting, Because those don't explain specific specs on their power demand and performance.
All goal zero products have safety systems built into them that allow all Yeti's to run completely dead with no probs. So for Lithiums and acids. You'll beable to power the same amount of output till it hits 0. Then the unit just shuts down. You could return it on for a % more if you try running something less. say, running AC and switch to 5volts. You'll get abit more juice to run before it'll shut down again and then you're done. There is no degrading % of power lose from the ports.
Acids also don't have the fault of the famous Myth of keep the battery above 50% or you end up damaging it. Because their voltage system cuts off the battery at such point. So even tho the battery % reads 0. The internal battery is above it's voltage of safety levels to keep it from breaking down.
This is off topic, but was wondering if you have any info on Sylvania Smart & Zigbee strip lighting that works with the Echo Plus. I am getting ready to install them and just looking for any info. Thanks.
Will it power a small space heater
What is the warranty on it?
Has anyone ever plugged in a trickle charger for a motorcycle?
Do the offer a 220v output option?
I'm not sure. Let me find out.
There's an international version which outputs 220/240v.
I heard back from Goal Zero and they don't have a 220v output option.
@@SteveDOES so how do you charge a laptop whose adapter inputs 220V AC?
Get a power strip to plug into.
The only trouble with that would be having to be cautious of everything you're plugging into it. Each outlet only really provides up to 150W of power, compared to what you might be used to with a normal wall outlet.
Change the laptop to one that uses usb c charging.
Anyone from Europe that have this?
Free sponsored product, another guy who can’t afford to buy his inverter and review it...Democrat
Get a good heavy duty power strip for charging capabilities
😎 coolness man thanks so much. Now I can use mine anywhere. Lolmaii KWA-KWAII
MAY THE GREAT SPIRIT BE WITH YOU ALWAYS BROTHER 🐺 WOLF
is there a fan noise or any noise at all when in use or while charging?
A better solar panel match is the 200 watt brief case panels from Goal Zero
yeah... ummm, your cellphone isn't going to take much power when it's already 100% charged.......
Hey, it was 99% :)
