Because some people just find happiness in finding ways to knock on someone's videos. It makes them feel better about themselves. Like they are fixing the world with their thumb pointing down, one video at a time. Myself? I appreciate this video because I did not know what I was getting into and now I have fixed all the burnt out bulbs in my gauge cluster with an upgrade to T5 LEDs. I would more than likely messed something up if I had not watched this video earlier today. Thank you FTM. Keep em coming!!!!
I am floored that I only live 20 minutes away from your shop. I will be calling tomorrow, Friday to make an appointment for my F150 project I need help with. Great news for me.
Awesome video !...Thank You !...I have a 2008 Ford Explorer XLT....Simple and easy fix...DIY In about 30 minutes start to finish....$12.00 for the bulbs from Ford Dealer Parts Dept.....Their Service Dept. wanted $250.00....Give me a break...lol....
You made it look very easy. Thanks I have a 2010 Explorer Limited and am looking to replace the cluster cover because the foil has become unraveled and I don't want to cut my fingers or hand.
Thanks!! I have an '06 Expedition with the same clips which I did not want to chance breaking. I've never seen those clips before so here I am. Ez breezy.
I suspected the ALLdataDIY statement about using the scan too only applied if the cluster itself was being "replaced" with a new one. It stopped me in my tracks though. But since I'm only changing out the bulbs, I thought I'd look around and hoped you'd tackled the topic. Thanks. Now I can tackle my '07 Sport Trac cluster myself.
Thank you for posting this! I see that darned beeper piezo that beeps incessantly. I now will proceed to rip that damn beeping unit from the cluster and smash it in a thousand pieces! 😋
Do you need to remove the negative from the battery in order to unplug the instrument cluster or is not needed?. I just need to replace a bulb from it. Thanks
Hi there! Great video! I have a strange problem on my 2007 Mountaineer... I took it into the dealer several months back to have them look at the remote start, which wasn't working, and make a new key for the vehicle since I only had one key and wanted another one. Everything was working fine before I brought it in to this dealer. As soon as I picked the car up, I noticed that the temperature reading on the IC was reading 75 degrees, when the EATC was reading 84... I also realized a few minutes into the drive that the AC wasn't getting cold.. In fact, it wasn't turning the AC on at all, just blowing vent air at me. I have taken it back to the dealer and they claimed that the AC compressor was the problem, which I foolishly believed and went to another mechanic friend of mine to have it replaced for $900 instead of the $1900 they wanted. However, when my mechanic replaced the compressor, it still didn't work. All the while (for these last several months now) the temperature on the IC reads 75 degrees no matter what... My mechanic who replaced the AC compressor said that he did a whole system scan and came up with codes: B2477 and B1255, which indicate that there's a problem with the IC, like it's not programmed right or malfunctioning. I took it back to the dealer once again and, they were adamant that they couldn't have possibly caused any problem but they'd be happy to charge me another $150 diagnosis fee... This time, they say that the EATC is bad and needs to be replaced at a cost of $1100.... I think my mechanic is right and they messed something up with the IC when they were programming the new key or messing with the remote start (which still doesn't work BTW). Any ideas for things I should try? Is it possible to reset the IC or is that a dealer only thing? Any help is very much appreciated!
These bulbs are B8.4D LED. Available from hundreds of non OEM sources. Just get the correct color. Amazon has 10 of them for less than $10. other websites have overseas @10 for $3.
Thank you! Ford service guy at Gary Smith Ford Fort Walton said they would replace the cluster at around $800. I said I just want to replace the bulbs. He repeated same answer.
If you just wanted to clean the inside of the clear plastic cover for the instrument panel, would you still need to go through all those disassembly steps? Any shortcuts for that?
How can I find out why the instrument cluster in the vehicle is the correct one? I have the 2008 Explorer Sport Trac 4x4 AWD V-8 and so far every cluster I see online is exactly what I have but I keep getting a message it’s not the correct cluster for my vehicle? Any help you could provide would be great! I’m not crazy about posting my VIN# online hoping we can determine if this cluster is the wrong one or not! I’ve had a battery red light come on periodically I hit reset and keep driving. I’ve had 4 alternators go on it! HELP ME please!
Very nice, any idea how to replace the headlight switch to the left of the instrument panel? I have a new one, but I have no idea how to remove the old one and install the new one....! It looks like it has tabs from behind the panels. It's not like the old ones where you popped the whole switch out and replace it.
Any idea where the door ajar dinger is on these? Is it in the cluster?. Or a speaker somewhere under the dash? The dinger on my moms 07 Sport trac doesn’t work at all anymore so I can’t find it by sound..
Great vid. Are they regular bulbs? I have a 2010 F150 and half my RPM lights are out or dimming real bad I can't hardly see the first half of rpm Guage at night. Where can I find the bulbs. Autozone? And how do I k kw what size or correct bulb?
your awesome. great videos. i have a 07 explorer.i went to start it and it wont start.there are no lights in the cluster, could that be the cause of a no start? battery is good ,everything else comes on???( radio, lights, powerwindows) im thinking cluster???
If you unplug the cluster to replace bulbs and then reconnect the same cluster, will the vehicle still start up as usual? Does unplugging the cluster require any further programming or will it remain the same and start right up?
When i go to start my truck it won’t start but the air bag will come nothing else... i removed the frame of the dashboard...the black with the grey on it i have to push down to start my truck...is that the cluster or a bulb
Anyone know what size these are in LEDs? Thanks to this video, I got it all apart easy. Went to put in some bulbs I got from amazon and they would not lock in easy like the old bulbs do, so I didn't want to force it. I think I have the wrong ones.
Richard Wadd 3 years ago These bulbs are B8.4D LED. Available from hundreds of non OEM sources. Just get the correct color. Amazon has 10 of them for less than $10. other websites have overseas @10 for $3. bend the small tabs "on the bulbs" back just a bit... use needle pliers or figure it out... the bulb housing can be brittle.
So I have a 2006 explorer that is having issues starting. Mechanic said the security module in the IC is bad. Only problem now is he says we need to wait to find a new IC not a rebuilt one. It's been a month with no end in sight. Would you say a rebuilt from Ford is a smart move or just keep waiting?
I have a 2006 Mountaineer. All the light and gauges work on the cluster however the odometer section will not display properly. It looks like the code from the Matrix movies. lol. Do you think that could be a bulb or wiring issue? I was going to remove the cluster to investigate but if it is nothing that I could service then to a dealer I will go. Thanks
ive done it to put blue ones in, I was nervous so i didnt unplug the cluster but it made it very hard to do, done it once more for turn signal bulb, unplugged it nothing went wrong
For some reason, after I took mine out to examine the bulbs, after putting it back in, now my speedometer needles won't register my speed and my gas gauge needle won't register my gas...idk what is going on....
I did the same thing and my speedometer doesn't work anymore. Did you figure out how to fix it? I heard that some of the soldering can come apart and just needs to be resoldered, but you need a very steady hand. I haven't checked mine yet.

I'm curious why there are any downvotes for this video. Your videos are always top-notch and extremely helpful.
I down voted because this is not a Ford Escape. Doesn’t look similar either
@@G1r3y Odd, as the title clearly says "2006-2010 Ford Explorer Instrument Cluster Removal". 🤣

Thank you!!! One of the bulbs in my 2007 burned out last night and this video will save me time and money- You have no idea how helpful this was.
They made these nice and easy you will be surprised at how it just falls out especially compared to the 2002-2005 explorers.
Can u change the color of the bulb to an led ?
IDK. I bought factory replacements from the dealership.

That's what I did, thanks. No need to pay ridiculous prices locally for 1 bulb, ordered a pack of 10 and replacing all of them when they arrive.
Good video. 👍🏼
Is there a way to remove the annoying speaker on the back? Its chime is relentless. 😅 😊
Thank you! Ford service guy at Gary Smith Ford Fort Walton said they would replace the cluster at around $800.

What a jerk service writer.
Do these bulbs come out of the housing easily? Or is it better to buy the complete housing/bulb assembly?

Anthony Russo Nope nothing changes when it is unplugged.
do you have a how to guide for evaluating the 2010 ford explorer 4x4 airbag light, ie. connections under the seat?
It's the plug under the driver seat common issue
Great info. Do you know if the dealer can reprogram a replacement cluster if I install one.?
Yes they can they will pull as built data from the ford server and program it to the vehicle.
Even if the mileage does not display anymore on the old one.

Good luck you are never going to find a new IC. Only remanufactured ones.
Anyone know the cost to program the cluster

Chad Eisenman No I would goto the dealer for this to see but likely you will need a cluster which they have to program anyway.
My air bag light on.....best attack plan? Check fuse......and have mechanic scan?
Have a mechanic scan would be ideal, is it flashing at first anyway and giving you a lamp flash code? This is still for your 2000 ranger?
If the cluster is out does that keep the car from starting?
On almost all newer cars yes.
Just "in case", could the bulb replacement be done without disconnecting the cable?
ive done it to put blue ones in, I was nervous so i didnt unplug the cluster but it made it very hard to do, done it once more for turn signal bulb, unplugged it nothing went wrong
If you have tiny hands and a mirror maybe, its a very tight squeeze to do with it plugged in.
For some reason, after I took mine out to examine the bulbs, after putting it back in, now my speedometer needles won't register my speed and my gas gauge needle won't register my gas...idk what is going on....

I have a 07 explorer. Replaced the cluster but now it won't start. Is the cluster the one holding the key code or something like that?
Yes theft is controlled by the IC. The dealer must program the ic to the vehicle and do pats key programming. You will need 2 sets of keys.
FordTechMakuloco is this something a locksmith can do? or only dealer?
Dealer only item on the manufacturer scan tool.
This will be the same one on the mercury mountaineer
What is the bulb identification number 194,161, etc. I have one burnt out in the upper right hand side. Thanks.
Call the dealer it tells them right in the parts catalog I don't have the numbers right now but it is something I need to update the description with.
Will do.......good vids. Keep them coming.
+Greg Bowman The OEM Ford Bulb number is 6L2Z13466A. Bulb come with socket
Thanks......appreciate the onfo.
