Two-step method patches herniated discs

  • A collaboration led by Lawrence Bonassar, the Daljit S. and Elaine Sarkaria Professor in Biomedical Engineering, proposes a new two-step technique to repair herniated discs. This approach uses hyaluronic acid gel to replace the leaked material and a collagen gel to seal the hole, resulting in a “patched” disc that maintains mechanical function and won’t collapse or deteriorate. Discseel© is happening. It’s very similar. But it’s very early stage deployment.

I had annual tears in L4/5/S1 as well as highly degenerate and herniated discs. Dr Wolff at Southwest spine and sports in Scottsdale arizona repaired the tears with disc seal and then filled the disc with exosomes.
Before the surgery I had back pain for years and spams that would keep me off my feet for a week.
Two years ago my tears occurred and I was completely immobilized for weeks with severe stiff sore achy pain. The Mayo Clinic wanted to fuse me but while in bed in UA-cam I found a video that some guy posted 7 years ago, he went to Europe for stem cells into his disc. I wrote him a message and he replied he was doing well. So I started searching for stem cells in USA. I found disc seal video and then looked up the closest doctor. I found Dr Wolff and had the procedure done, I figured it was better than fusion first. It cost between 17-20k with all expenses by that may have changed. The pain went away within days and I’ve been on a long therapeutic road to recovery to strengthen my core like steel. I also ice bath a few times a week, I am a member of a ice bath spa. Loose weight, sit less, build core, posture is always on point.

It looks very promising, in future they could use cellurar seeded collagen gel to seal the hole and maybe inject HA with some kind of growth factors or cells that would improve restoration of the nucleus and annulus. I'm 19 years old and have disc problem but not as severe as i see other when they are using opiates to function on daily basis and are sceptical when it comes to surgeries (i dont blame them- current surgical methods are pretty primal). I just hope the research in this field with accelerate and the technology will be accessable before it gets to the point when many of the people that could now benefit from it will in future (when the technology becomes accessable) will have their discs in the point of no-return. It depends if the patch will be strong enough and how annulus heals. I guess if they used the cellular seeded collagen gel (like in this study : www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1742706118304021 ) it would definitely could help in long term. They could improve healing of the disc by injecting haluronic acid with some kind of growth factors or cells (depends which one will work-i follow few candidates for treatment of DDD and if any of them would work it would definitely be big step also in treatment of herniated disc) that would also help to regenerate nucleus and improve healing of annulus. I just hope that big companies will work along and researcher with development will accelerate (jesus christ, its so many people suffering from disc problems yet i feel like its not take with proper seriousness yet). I feel like its a matter of time i just hope that discs of the people that could now benefit from such therapy won't get to the point of no return when this technology becomes reality. Also its obvious that surgery performance plays a big role in outcome of the whole thing and things such as age of the patient etc.
