Ex-Miami officer sentenced to 11+ years after stealing cash, drugs during traffic stops

- A former Miami Police officer who used traffic stops to steal money and drugs from people he thought were suspects but who turned out to be undercover agents was sentenced Tuesday to 11 years and 3 months in prison.
Officials including U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe and Miami police Chief Manuel Morales issued a harsh rebuke of the crimes and issued a warning to other law enforcement officers who think about "tarnishing the badge."

My former sister in law spent almost 40 years at the department of justice in DC. In a department that oversees/reviews crime data for local police departments all across America. And they look into allegations of fraud, corruption and abuse in these departments.
Anyway, there is some level of fraud, corruption and abuse in EVERY big-city across America. But Miami has been at (or near) the top of the list for DECADES. Not only city of miami and miami dade, but all the other smaller departments around the area as well.
Per capita, they have ARGUABLY the most corrupt law enforcement agencies in the ENTIRE NATION.
And mind you, what you are seeing in this particular news story is just one of the FEW stories that make it to the news. As very rarely do any of their actions get reported, even to their superiors (or internal affairs). And when they do (get reported), it almost always just gets swept under the rug. As everyone looks to get paid off to look the other way.
Think about it.......when was the last time you saw a cop (anywhere in dade county) get a long prison sentence, like you see in other big cities?? Not only for fraud or corruption, but for ANYTHING AT ALL??
Think of how many times you hear about police involved shootings. And ask yourself, how is it that ALL of these shootings turn out to be 'justified'?
As she put it, Miami has (borderline) third-world country levels of corruption and abuse of power. And it's been this way for a long, long time.

11 years in federal prison is actually only 3-1/2 years after good time ( 2 months knocked off for every 1 month good) and serving 8 months and 14 days every year counts as (1-year) in federal prison.
