  • Malaysia's rainforests are incredibly diverse in freshwater fish species. Our trip to Malaysia in 2019 was mainly focused on terrestrial animals but we were fortunate enough to witness some incredible freshwater eco-systems. It was wonderful to see common ornamental species such as the Betta, Spiny Eel, Halfbeak and Borneo Sucker in their natural habitat.
Fish species in this video include:
    Mahseer (Tor douronensis)
    Loach (Garra borneensis)
    Borneo Sucker (Gastromyzon sp.)
    Loach (Protomyzon whiteheadi)
    Loach (Glaniopsis hanitschi)
    Spiny Eel (Macrognathus maculatus)
Common Barb (Puntius banksi) - Re-identified as Clown Barb (Barbodes everetti), thanks Michael Lo
Spanner Barb (Puntius lateristriga) - Re-identified as False Spanner Barb (Barbodes kuchingensis), thanks Michael Lo
    Sarawak Rasbora (Rasbora sarawakensis)
    Forest Halfbeak (Hemirhamphodon pogonognathus)
    Brilliant Rasbora (Rasbora einthovenii)
    Stone Loach (Schistura robertsi)
    Blue Danio (Danio kerri)
    Penang Betta (Betta pugnax)

I live near brackish area in borneo. When i was a kid, i always caught snakehead, gourami and Anabas testudineus. I kept gourami in my tank and always remind me of my childhood.

Love the curious Bettas. They can see themselves in the camera lens reflections. I know the similar male Betta Splendens will attack their own image in a mirror. I once demonstrated this when I took mine into school in a jam jar
