Actually BIGBANG made hiphop and R&B be mainstream in south korea so EVERY ONE on the R&B scene respects Taeyang alot, GD and TOP are probably the 2 "idol" rappers that the hiphop scene respesct the most since they were rappers before idols and Taeyang is highly respected on the dance scene too he being one of the pioneers for giving space for dance crews to perform with them.
Big Bang helped in a big way. Of course, Seo Taiji most likely introduced hip-hop to Koreans. Epik High were starting to blow up around Big Bang's debut. Their album Swan Songs (2005) had a song named "Fly" that was popular and to a greater extent, Remapping the Human Soul had the songs "Love Love Love" and "Fan" that were big w/ the public. The album was the 3rd best selling album in Korea in 2007- the same year Big Bang broke out w/ "Lies". However, I'd say that Big Bang influenced the K-Pop scene w/ rap. Rap was more of a novelty in K-Pop songs back in the day- it wasn't treated seriously and it wasn't featured in the vast majority of K-Pop songs. Most groups didn't have a rapper and even some popular groups didn't have a designated rapper unless the producer/ songwriter made it so for that particular song they're doing. Big Bang not only had 1, but 2 rappers. Both had some roots in the hip-hop scene (not to the extent of actual K-rappers but more than people think). GD claims that Wu-Tang's 36 Chambers was the album that got him into rapping while T.O.P was performing in underground rap clubs under the name Tempo. The rest as they say, is history. In the years after Big Bang's debut, great idol rappers soon followed- Jay Park for 2PM in 2008, CL in 2NE1 and Junhyung from B2ST in 2009, etc. K-Pop groups w/ rap lines like B.A.P, Block B, and BTS came out. Rap in K-Pop songs for girl groups became more popular too. Miryo from Brown Eyed Girls obviously was one of the OGs but I'm sure that Big Bang and 2NE1 helped influence girl groups in Korea to have rappers as main fixtures (Soyeon from (G)I-DLE, Jennie and Lisa from Black Pink, etc.)
Really,as a Chinese, I am not particularly interested in KPOP, but I like G-dragon and BIGBANG so much. Their music surpasses KPOP and they are truly the top singers in the world.
