For the money this is the best solution I’ve been able to find. I use the Purple with a Eero mesh network, it provides amazing oversight and control. Setup was a breeze. I use spectrum but I don’t use their hardware.

Hi, I am a spectrum internet subscriber. I just bought one of these because of your recommendation. I am hoping to be able to put the purple between my Spectrum modem and Spectrum Wireless Access point. I like that I can pause devices by MAC address. I shut my kids of from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am. I'm not sure the purple has this capability. Would you happen to know? Thanks, Scott
Yes! Absolutely possible. The app out of the box gives you a bunch of options to block certain websites on specific devices (or group of devices). you can also create custom rules for specific time to be set on specific devices or a group of devices

I finally got it setup. I don't understand the theory here. It has an in and an out. In the instructions it says if you have a 2 piece setup from your ISP (modem and router) just plug the WAN port into any LAN port on your router. I assumed that I would go from modem out to WAN in and LAN out to my network switch. In the configuration they are suggesting it is a packet sniffer. Do you know if the Purple SE can be setup as I stated with my router removed and also be a DHCP server?
How granular is the application control? like can it control the functions of an application? i.e only allow whatsapp upload and disallow whatsapp download? And how is web filtering, can you specify certain categories/domains to exclude/allow? Lastly, how do you find the IPS? How accurate is it compared to snort on pfsense for example or even FortiGate IPS?
I don't believe one can disable upload only / download only for specific apps; could do that for a domain based on logs so if I wanted to block uploads to Apple's domain, i know from the firewall logs where the uploads, I can then block outbound flow to that domain. Web filtering is granular (basically, what I suggested above is web filtering). I don't have hands on experience with pfsense or fortigate, I see a lot of IPS alerts in the app so I'm guessing it's blocking stuff

ISP -> Firewalla (in router mode) -> router (router in bridge mode)
