Netflix picks up Stripes. All of us middle age folks rewatch it for the first time in years. Get to the scene where he's singing these lyrics, and realize "I've always wondered what song that is." Except now we all have Google at our fingertips. lol

The Amazing Rhythm Aces did the song originally on their "How The Hell Do You Spell Rythum?" album in 1980, this would become a hit 2 years later for Mel McDaniel.
Why is this not on Apple? ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY. Epic tune. Loved it ever since Bill Murray sang it in Stripes.

Haha! Like others here, I got here via Stripes. Saw that movie when I was about 10, watched a million times growing up. I've sung those lines Bill Murray sings to this day. But only yesterday, age 41, did I finally look up the song. This is pretty cool.
