- “Child Of The Moon” by The Rolling Stones
Composers: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards
Lyrics:
The wind blows rain into my face
The sun glows at the end of the highway
Child of the moon rub your rainy eyes
Oh child of the moon
Give me a wide awake crescent shaped smile
She shivers by the light she is hidden
She flickers like a lamp lady vision
Child of the moon rub your rainy eyes
Child of the moon
Give me a wide awake crescent shaped smile
The first car on the foggy road riding
The last star for my lady is pining
Oh child of the moon bid the sun arise
Oh child of the moon
Give me a misty day, pearly grey, silver, silver stain
Wide awake, pearly grey, smile

Psychedelic period Stones is way underrated!
True gems they made on this period: "We Love You", "Dandelion", "She's a Rainbow", "2000 Light Years From Home", "In Another Land", "2000 Man" or this beautiful song called "Child Of The Moon"
Yes
Today this song was on my dream.Very fucking song.
@@peliche77 definitely
this was the b side to jumping jack flash
An absolute mystery how this song fell under the radar. It is fantastic
Sharing a record with Jumpin' Jack Flash sounds like a pretty plausible way
Yes, the single was a hit cause of J. J. Flash.
Always been up there as one of my favourites , but then the Stones have so many hidden gems ...you must have good taste
@@richardfweeler2939 Hiden gems maybe but not for me, reason why i could never make a ranking with Stones crazy repertory. :)
Was that a pun intended? `Under the Radar` sounds a little bit like this.
The drums of Watts amazes me every time!!!
:'/
Way to get ahead of the curve...
A great Drum riff a super song.
Their psychedelic music from the 60s is awesome……no one seems to recognize this period from the Stones.
They succeeded at every genre they attempted...
The stones played at the psychedelic bit passing phase and poor at that
Best laying down R&B and Blues
Brian's saxophone gives this song such an otherworldly vibe. So gorgeous ✨🎷✨
Another great example of Mick as a brilliant lyricist
Composition credits should have never gone to Jagger and Richards only. Ruby Tuesday as an example. Brian practically wrote all the music for this.
Rest in peace Charlie..🕊
The guitar work, the drumming and the delivery make this my favourite piece by the Rolling Stones.
You are a man of wealth and taste and I whole heatedly agree
One of their last psychedelic songs... I wish they had done many more :(
They still can
@Solo Tareas The Satanic Seniors Return
@0302王陽洋I love psycadelic music from the '60s Their Satanic Majesties Request, Piper at the gates of dawn, Sgt.Pepper, Forever Changes, Surrealistic Pillow some really good music.
@0302王陽洋I totally agree I like almost all psycadelic music, it's just great to listen to those classic albums.
@0302王陽洋That's true, unfortunately.
A fantastically beautiful song with Brian on trumpet . Actually it's an alto sax .
Soprano Saxophone, not a trumpet.
@@a.rodimtsev9446 Got ya, thanks. It's gorgeous .
this was, and probably still is my favorite song from the rolling stones
Not one bit surprised : ) My 3 are Midnight, Jigsaw and the Lantern. Of course Jumpin' is up there, too.
meeeeee tooooooo?^'und ekzdmhf7fkzd
I had a hand me down 45 when I was about 7 or 8
Lantern is a great song. Stones should release a special album of rarely played great.
Child of the Moon. The Lantern. You got The Silver .Parachute woman. Dear Doctor. Miss Amanda Jones. Jigsaw Puzzle. Country Honk. Black Limousine. ,Neighbors.
One of the best sounding recordings the Stones ever layed to tape.
"When the Rain comes, they run and clone the song" 🎵 🎶
Keiz you are a stupid person 😂😂
Best B-side ever
This another masterpiece that is up there with the heavy beasts of that time that made the Stones revered to this day ...
The greatest rock and roll band ever!
A mighty powerful claim , matey ...
This is an absolute belter.
- of course Brian was still with us -
fleetingly 🙂
@@pyewackett5 just my opinion and I respect others who have their own favorites. I just got hooked in 69 and have been a hardcore fan ever since no matter what the lineup.
I agree. The Beatles lasted 6 years, the Stones 60 😊. I’m so over the worship of the Beatles. The Stones are the best band ever. 🥰
@@pyewackett5 Yes a mighty, powerful claim but the Stones can be back it up by having arguably the best body of work in rock n roll history
Late in night before sleeping i usually go on your site for the olds greats Stones songs.
For me, this song is a bridge from Majestie's Request to Beggars' Banquet
It is!
💯 agree with ya Zack. Well said.
I'll guess it's Brian playing the Jew's Heart here? But could be Mick.
@@petermills542 soprano sax by Brian.
@@RubenCamachoZ Recorded at the same session as JJF tho
Finally Child of the Moon! I'm Fanatic of this Incredible and Fantastic Song! The Best Stones of the Brian Jones Times in the 60s! Thank You!
He plays that trumpet you hear after each "Child of the moon . . ."
@@axiomist4488 Yes! That's true he was a Genious who gave a touch of High Quality to every song he played! 🎸🎶🎵🎼
Trumpet or no, it's still a Keith /Jagger song!!!!
@@Methilde Yes more than 99% are Jagger/Richards songs but many of them wouldn"t be the same without Brian for example Paint it Black 2000 Light Years from Home Ruby Tuesday etc etc
@@Methilde its a sax plus words alone don't make a song a hit ,the music does, Brian's musical colors helped make the songs stand out and become the hits they became. they wouldn't been as good otherwise.
My most favorite song and I don’t know why. Just resonates 🌙
this was fantastic! Haven't heard it in years.rip Charlie ooo ooo ooo
Mystic and magical... Rough and beautiful... This song is Pure Gold... Always so amazing music💞💕
Reminds me of "Rain " by the Beatles, The guitars and the drums. Awesome
.
Love Bills amazing Buzz Bass and Brian's haunting Alto sax . Awesome.
This is one of my favorite Stones songs...a must listen on a cold ,damp foggy drizzling day like it is now ..
It's a trumpet .
@@axiomist4488No, it's an alto sax mixed to sound like trompet.
@@Methilde 😊😊👍👍Right!
no its a soprano sax@@Methilde
Magic! One of the best stones songs!
This plaintive yet uncanny delivery from Mick is infectious. Just brilliant.
Yes, even more than brillant :)
"Give me a wild away, crescent shaped, smile"
@@Methilde isn't it, wide awake?
@@thestones8022 Yes, here wild away don't make sens, plus my first language is french :)
@@thestones8022Yes you're right, as a french i could make some confusion :)
This was the b side to "Jumpin' Jack Flash" ....love it!
I've always loved this song.Still have my copy of the Jumping Jack Flash single w/ this song as the flip.
Great single for old Jukeboxes. My local Pub had it!! It's probably on some 'retro' ones now!
Oh man, wish I still had mine! I enjoyed this "B" side gem every bit as much as Jumping Jack Flash. I still remember the very cool cover art on the sleeve the 45 came in.
Me too!
This song has always given me goosebumps. It was regularly on my turntable in my garage studio back in the day. 🌙
Hey Sara, like what you took the time to write about my beloved Stones songs. Was born in the 60's but not lucky enough to have hipster P's so had to find EVERYTHING on my own...another gr8 is But Then I Said Hi Like A Spider 🕷️ To A Fly 💸 rememberin'what my little girl said She was common flirty she looked about thirty I would have run away but I was on my own, she told me later she was a bartender she loved the way I held the microphone 🎤 So then I said Hi Like A Spider 🕷️ To A Fly 💸 Jump Right Ahead In My 🕸️ Web...it's from memory little spiders, Carole Frances Catherine
I'm not crying,
the full moon has entered my eyes 🌕
Marianne is the Child of the Moon, lucky lady I absolutely love this & all their psychedelic songs🌙🌗🌙
The band that pumps out hit after hit for 60 freaking amazing years. The Stones!
The stones never recorded anything worth listening to after Tumbling dice
They became a corporation and turned out total shite
A prolific singles band every single up to Tumbling dice
After that no it became a caricature
Go see the Stones play Brazil but your viewing from Uruguay and need binoculars
Not rock and roll
Without Brian Jones they lost the touch ok Oor Brian didnt write songs he completely embellished their output a the time
But totally sub standard after early 70s
Well, i certainly appreciate that your opinion differs, but Heartbreaker, Coming Down Again, Til the Next Goodbye, Shattered, Miss You, Beast of Burden, Down in the Hole, Hang Fire, Tie You Up, Waiting on a Friend, Blinded By Love, Slipping Away, Thru and Thru, Love is Strong, Don't Stop, and countless others come to my mind as great freaking songs. They're not Gimme Shelter, Sympathy, or JJ Flash, but it's only rock n roll, and I for one like it. 😉
@@andrewjohnstone963 Hilarious. Their music is powerful and timeless. They left the Beatles and ALL other bands in the dust decades ago. Clean your ears and open your mind. You're witnessing history. NO band will ever come close to these guys. You obviously don't like rock and roll. That's just fine. You don't have to...
@@OregonDARRYL dear deluded go and be more deluded

@@andrewjohnstone963 Stones are the first entertainment act to gross a billion, too. So, there's that... along with all the hits. Go listen to Taylor Swift.
Awsome song
I saw you in the jumpin jack flash comments too 👀
Awesome and beautiful 🎵 By John🥺
Sounds like “ Rain “ by the Beatles
@@thehunter3387 I agree, similar, but not the same
@Solo Tareas That makes two of us my friend.
I simply love these videos...they compliment the songs so well!
A true Stones gem. Beautiful!
try each and everyday.......omg....
Still love it today, just like the first time, as a kid in the 1960’s. ❤️
FINALLY child of the moon
Used to sing along to this when I was a wee kiddo. Never knew if I got the lyrics quite right. Brilliant that this has been created for us. Loveliness exploding visuals. 🙏 Have often mashed this song with ‘Rain’ by The Beatles.
I've always felt like this song was lifted from rain......good mashup choice.
I so agree 😍
Always loved this one and I thank my mother for initiating me into the stones at a very young age. RIP Marj x
If I ran a classic rock radio station these would be the songs I would play instead of the same stuff day after day.
THE ROLLING STONES FOREVER! LONG LIVE THE ROLLING STONES!
Nice animation, graphics.
First Stones song I really connected with, n the video nails it, thanks.
Don't know why people keep saying they weren't good with psychedelia... I adore Majesties Request
wow forgotten all about this
When the Rain come they sip they're lemonade..and crawl into the shade..!
u gt it bkwrds
Magnificent work of art!
yess my all time favorite, I still get chills from listening to this song ❤
Thanks for posting ABKCOVEVO. Love the lyric videos and this song. Happy Birthday today(July 26) to Mick Jagger. Cheers!
Recorded late 1967 as the last of psychadelica recorded for the band, but a gem if you ask me!
What an amazing song and recording🙂
When the rain comes...
A PSICHODELIC MYSTERY TOUR...
SO WONDERFUL
SO HIPNOTIC
THIS TRACK DRIVES EVERYONE TO WHERE DREAMS BEGIN
Sounds like Rain by the Beatles with some Incredible Stringband mixed in.
When the raaaaiiiin comes....
this is wonderful!!! been waiting for it such a long, long time. long live the Stones!
The beginning DSus4 chord played along with a D by Keith and Brian are a Hallmark of this song
heard this song in a cheap hotel in Rangoon (some 40 years ago) played by a cheap cassette recorder. bad quality, still made my evening. the owner of the recorder later owned my Lonely Planet. still hold a grudge ...
Mick's droning delivery, Charlie's signature behind-the-beat tom rolls, Brian's multi-instrumental medieval-baroque influence... All absolute genius.
The one I don't hear in the psychedelic-era Stones is Keith. Oh, he's there, but not in any way that's obvious to me. But then, a short period of time later, Keith discovers Open G, and we have Honky Tonk Women! What a diverse set of talents!
If only Brian had lived, I'd love to have seen what else he had to offer.
Masterpiece from the summer of my years. ❤❤❤❤❤
The b side to Jumping Jack Flash. I believe. Love this song. The Stones harmony was so cool.
More brilliant animation for an evocative masterpiece.
The original video was amazing. You can't find it anymore. I wonder why.
The Stones recording under the influence .... of The Byrds.
LOVE this Song and Video!
beautiful song, beautiful video
One of my absolute secret favorites B side of JJ Flash🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🔝
Their best psychedelic song, nosing out "Rainbow" and "2000LYFH."
I've always loved rainbow
Also Dandelion.
Dandelion of course
Describe psychedelic
CITADEL and Their Satanic Majesties Request -full album -Jerry from the Czech Republic
Child of the moon 🌝, cool song title..
The B-side of "Jumpin' Jack Flash". Wasn't on an album until "More Hot Rocks".
Listened to this as an 8 year old kid and it’s even better now can’t explain why
A great track, doubled up with Jumping jack flash, got to be one of the greatest singles ever. Jumping Jack Flash/Child of the Moon. Can't really argue with that. I love the guitar at the beginning and throughout, probably Keith. The stones reaching their peak.
sounds like their peak again on Hackney Diamonds!!
Bei diesem Song fang ich an zu träumen...so mystisch...🎆🌳🌳🌳🌳 🌌🎼 🔝
LOVE THIS RECORD
Rest in peace Charlie Watts✌🏻
This song is like listening to a likeable Oasis. None of the tedious brother bickering. Just pure Psychedelic melodies that have a pleasant taste that reminds me of 90's Brit-Pop.
Wow -- amazing song
I was lucky enough to see them in 94' 97' and 2003..my life is complete
Mick, ich wünsche dir langes glückliches Leben, Gesundheit, liebe und Schutz! In liebe immer deine Vera. Danke für alles, und das dich gibt! 🤗💋❤
Miss you Brian and the sound / feel you gave the band. Taylor years were great, but Jones years were the greatest
This song is so overlooked
"Give me a wide awake/crescent shaped smile"... song for Marianne.
all of Micks songs for and about Marianne are top notch
I’d probably have to write this one right up there with ‘2000 Light Years from Home’ & ‘We Love You’ the Stoned StOnEs is some good good shit! 🥴🤟🏻👄
If the raaaain comes…..
This is one of several songs I'd skip over earlier in life to get to the potent shit. "Moonlight Mile" is another one I seek out now.
After each "child of the moon" theres a long wailing sound , high pitched . Took me decades, till internet , to find out what it is .
Thats Brian on trumpet . The man of a thousand (great) ideas .
somebody said soprano sax which is probably closer. .they have a unique sound
@@JustinEdwords Yes, it is soprano saxophone; Brian in an interview confirmed it himself.
Love it!
Back in the 70 s I was soaking up music more than booze and I think I saw it on flip side of my pals J j flash 45. Than I got more hot rocks and played it 100 times. I still love it. GDamn I love Richards backup vocals
Brazil love Rolling Stones!
this track inspired the whole 90s britpop
Blur.
my favorite RS song ❤ the notorious B side of the single Jumpin' Jack Flash
One of my favorite Stones songs! Like SATANIC MAJESTIES, it proved they could do psychedelia as well as any UK or USA combo of the era.
Close your eyes and listen to this song, feel its atmosphere
Never heard this until now, damn.. this is a great song!!
Exelente cancion!!!!!
The last gasp of The Rolling Stones' psychedelic period before they went back to the blues-rock they'd started with and have continued to this day. I didn't remember this song (though I'm sure I've heard it before), but playing it right after "We Love You" and the awesome "Dandelion" from the "Satanic Majesties" session (though not included on that album) it seems like yet another interesting glimpse into the "road not taken" for the Stones.
apparently, I already knew it but I heard again while tripping thinking it was the first time I was hearing it and now this song will forever be magickal
i remember hearing this for the first time back in 89 man man what a joy on fucking radio bbc
For years I thought "silver stain" {IF that's the lyric} was "silky-faced", and I KNEW he wasn't saying "crescent-shaped" for a 3rd time at the very end. Thanks for this.
Nice piece of jam. If I remember correctly it was written for Marianne Faithful. I'm not sure it's been a long time ago.
When the rain comes, they run and hide their heads. (Awesome drumming) Sad...
