I'm often compared to "Hitch" when people find out what I do for a living, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to do an "infield breakdown" of the pickup scenes in Hitch, and compare Hollywood's version to what works in the real world.

    Two things you missed
    1) He sends her a drink after he's left because the other guy got her the wrong kind of drink and he got her the exact drink she'd been drinking, implying he was paying attention to her
    2) She tells him her name and where she works, so there's zero stalking required in order for him to send her a package. If anything, she will just once again get the impression that he was paying attention to more than just her name and looks

You said you thought it was strange that he sent her a drink afterwards and you weren't sure what his strategy was... As a woman it seems pretty obvious to me. When we receive drinks (at least some of us), we don't really think they are "free". There is an implication that we owe the guy a conversation at the very least because he is being "nice" which if we accept the drink but refuse to converse, it would put us in the socially negative position as being mean/taking advantage.
I usually want to turn down drinks if I feel I will be pressured to be nice even if I don't like him. What he essentially showed by sending her the drinks after he walked away, was that the drinks had no agenda, pressure or obligation for her to speak to him or be nice to him, (where both would wonder if it is real or she is just trying to be polite).
Bottom line, I think selflessness after displaying he was high value made him of interest to her. Of course it wasn't entirely selfless since he wanted a future interaction with her, but it was selfish in a way that was acceptable if that makes sense.

Ah, yes, the implied “social commitment” to any one number of things!
I tell my daughters to avoid “free” stuff that guys are willing to give them, because it’s never truly free, and often times the price isn’t worth the trouble.
      I don’t think it’s sticking, though.

Do you normally have drinks in a bar in which you know everyone in it?
Doubtful, but I wasn’t even talking about drinks (my girls aren’t old enough to drink).
As a matter of fact, I’m talking about a variety of things. I tell my girls:
Avoid free drinks from strangers (particularly male).
Avoid free food from strangers (particularly male).
Avoid having your rent paid by men.
Avoid being in a situation that gives others the impression that that you owe them something
Kindness exists, sure, but it’s best to err on the side of caution.

Yes, if you are good looking and charming like Bond, women will hit on you. If you are a jerk and look like Woody Allen, probably not. If you are depending upon bucks to attract women, the only ones you will get will be the Gold diggers. You would do better to sign up for a Russian dating site. I am an old geezer now so I do not care but I can still talk to young hot women by being charming. One more thing. learn to change your underwear everyday.

This is such an interesting paradox to me. To "pick up" a lot of girls it seems like you would have to go quantity over quality. If you are picking up and dating high quality girls, then you would never get good at the pickup because you aren't available that often.
Take myself, I have no game. I've only ever had two girlfriends in my life. I dated the first one for a year and I married the second. (Over a dozen years on I have no regrets.)
I suppose it comes down to what you are looking for and value. If you are just looking for sex, then I guess you can be successful and have good "game". If you are looking for love and a family... I wonder if there are videos like this for women, that would really fascinating (to see their values, issues, and strategies).

Most men/women find certain things in the opposite sex attractive, with LITTLE subjectivity, but women ALSO want other things. 1 source: Biologist Randy Thornhill (University of New Mexico) studying faces for 15 years. “Both men and women rated symmetrical members of the opposite sex as more attractive and in better health than their less symmetrical counterparts…” Men with higher degrees of symmetry enjoy more sexual partners “…because of the way that the sexual system in humans works, women are choosey.”
Women pretend looks don’t matter but dismiss below average looking men regardless of personality, many studies confirm. Example: livescience.com/58607-mens-looks-may-matter-more-than-personality.html
“Women Becoming Obese At Faster Rates Than Men” www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-lazar/us-women-becoming-obese-a_b_10431802.html
AND somehow: Men rate 50% of women below average looking, women rate 80% of men below average looking: Source: theblog.okcupid.com/your-looks-and-your-inbox-8715c0f1561e
      If personality can override looks/race:
There’s exceptions to every rule, especially if you’ve $ or status or the girl isn’t too outta your league etc. So rather than claim some minority of cases where “ugly” guys get “hot” girls, have an ugly/skinny Indian or Arab go in person to young/fit girls of different races or make a profile & see what % of girls flirt, give their # & agree to date/kiss etc. Show the videos.
Girls will get the best they can get in the following areas, more/less in this order: handsome, tall, fit, wealthy, high status. THEN there’s some subjective, side factors like her preferred race/fashion/personality/beliefs etc.
I’ll be uploading insightful/fun videos on this topic in time. Sub n stay tuned, trust me. Or watch this:

And many women who are super models have dads with asymmetrical faces, brothers who aren't super good looking, so don't expect all of them to feel comfortable with someone who isn't the epitome of beauty standards. This research has a point but don't be fooled. Timing is important, charm, right place, abundance, knowing how women think, being sociable, being attractive (ofc), paying attention to detail, social proof, if you have all of this together a woman will be afraid and won't want to be close to you because people are afraid of perfection in the sense that we don't feel good enough for someone who is perfect. It's just a game of chances. Most people, presented with the same situation, respond the same way, being comfortable with the situations is crucial. You can't tailor make the approach because there are unwinnable situations and unapproachable people, you can't change that (because of various reasons: wrong day, wrong time, you remind her of her son's best friend, who knows). You just learn to accept rejections and have the best chance possible on average. They help you with the pickup, the eventual relation with that person is on you.

Good stuff, Todd! I've never seen the movie - I'm interested in seeing it now. You mentioned her being alone and that the guy should always expect a friend(s) to show up at some point. That's how I met my wife. She'd gotten to the country dance bar about 30 minutes early before her friends/coworkers. At 28 years old I had zero game, poor social skills, low self esteem, and little knowledge (or trust) of women; but I approached and asked her to dance. I had no expectation of a date or sex - just to dance. With my low self esteem the idea that girls would like me and want to be with me was a foreign concept. She didn't want to dance so I asked to sit and we started a natural conversation and simply connected. Her two friends showed up and saw she was with a guy (which is what they wanted for her). We met briefly then they went their own way to leave us alone. The two of us left that bar for another one, we began dating, and the rest is history.

Yea Jeremy Meeks got girls to pay his bail to get "raped" by him cause of his "game" in his Mugshot. lol.

@@airplayrule The order is more like: wealthy, handsome/fit, tall. High status is basically a given if you're rich tho so I don't know if that counts as a category on it's own. No ugly person is going to attract beautiful people. That's just obvious and anyone that needs to be told that is an idiot.

@@s.a.8548 attracting women with wealth works for goldiggers, n they usually are using u, cheating, divorcing etc. and it's usually more likely as women age n want a provider. but people wana believe money matters more cause it's more likely u gain wealth than fix your face.
u can be a famous youtuber or rocker etc. without looks n money. let's say mike tyson's looks n money degraded into mediocre. his status can attract women. he was a champ. though looks n money do create status usually.
wait for future vids on my channel airplayrule for details/facts on this or for now, watch WAW 1.4 n enjoy. trust me.

I wouldn't even think of a guy who's walked away from me, and not because I'm afraid of social risk but because if he does that, it shows that he's ready to leave me behind, even if only as a trick. Why bother with him?
Also, it's kinda sad how all of this stuff is analysed. Shows that lots of people can't do it naturally, without lengthy explanations of the dos and the donts. Sad.

How if you feel like you have a strong fast heart beating, feeling suffocating and trembling almost close to pass out just by having to talk to stranger girl. I've once solo aproached a girl I didn't knew and I think I would have died If I stay longer in interaction.

    • @ultimatenoob3

People can't do something naturally unless they do it all the time.
It's the people that can do it naturally, that are the ones that have been doing it so long that it has become natural to them.
No guy is born with the ability of spontaneously sparking a budding conversation with a strange girl. It is a skill, and like any skill, needs practice.
I agree it is kind of heartless, but that's just the way it is.

@@ultimatenoob3Some people are doing just good socially from the beggining and learn on the way to be even better. Others struggle and become closed. I've been shy since I remember, since a kid I was blocked to speak to people. So as you said pretty people are easy in communication because people want to interact with them so they have more practice. But its naturall as they build it from the early years.

was it a bad interaction? what was the setting?

@@ultimatenoob3 I don't view the act of connecting with a person as a skill. Naturally, if you want to impress her in a blink of an eye - then yeah, you need to train. But any kind of impression lasts only that long. In the end, she'll either like you for you or not. Why waste energy on perfecting your approach, trying to look smarter or funnier than you really are? Communication is a natural to humans. All people are born with the need and the ability to communicate. Not all people are born with dazzling wit, true, - but then, not all people are bon tall or lean, or with a Chris Hemsworth looks. Who cares? It's the high expectations that are imposed on people that make videos such as the one above watched.

The reason why he had the drink delivered after the fact is cause at the beginning of the interaction he said "not if you're paying attention" and then after the fact he sends the proper drink to her. Which conveys the fact they he is in fact able to pay attention even to the smallest of details.

I don't understand how he stalked her. She told him she works at that magazine and the department she is in so the delivery guy could at least find the floor if he asked at the entrance.
Great video btw. Do more of these Hollywood movie breakdowns. Because we know that some stuff in movies at bs and it'd be good for guys to see what can work in reality.
