  • I'm planning to make more videos on this system - in my opinion it's one of the best film cameras out there. In this video I take a walk down regents canal and also talk about some of the limitations of the system and how to deal with them.

    Solid video, man. I think you pulled off the 1/30th shot of the bench and bridge really well. I dig that one.

      Thanks man, didn’t want to risk it with the last of my Acros but it worked out. (Don’t want to fanboy but I’m pretty stoked that you watch my channel! 🤓)

    You know what you're doing man! So good to see someone who can take good photos, identify their own good photos and why as well as know a bad shot and why.

    I bought one of these a few weeks ago, and I'm already totally in love with it. What an awesome camera! When you're used to carrying a standard press photo kit around all day, it's really not that big or heavy either. The wooden handle is pointless though, even if it is pretty stylish :-)
    The wide angle lenses you get for this camera are just stunning for nature/landscape stuff, and they are really cheap for the awesome sharpness and build quality they have. I really don't think you can get a better system for the money if you're after 6x7 medium format.

    The Pentax 6x7 is a great setup for a bigger than 35mm approach. I also get like 95% coverage on the RZ67 and same thing has happened in the studio setup. Hope to keep watching your content. Well put together!

    Excellent video. You got me thinking about trading in one of my RZ67'S for a Pentax 67. You're not rambling.

      Thanks! I reckon a combination of Rz’s and p67s would have you set for pretty much anything

    Many times I've used the trick of composing handheld, then releasing the mirror before taking the exposure. It sounds quirky, but it works since the mirror vibration damps out and there is no significant vibration from the shutter opening. I also tend to use a monopod to carry the weight of the camera. Pushing 73, I find using the heavy p67 system a bit much, so I bought a Fuji GA645zi for non-tripod work - we'll see how that works out,

    Hello Jonathan. I'm a recent subscriber to your channel. I'm really impressed by it's quality and content. Your medium format comparison video settled my mind on the Pentax 6x7. (With a mirror lock up) There are no camera shops near me, to physically check and get a feel for one. And two lenses. The 105mm and 55mm. My only option is an online purchase. Mostly from Japan. Do you have any advice with regards to what to look for with any future purchase? Sorry for the rambling message. Keep up the good work.

      I would get a P67 (not a 6x7), the P67ii is extremely expensive nowadays but the 67 is more reasonably priced. 105/55 is an excellent combination. Are you in the UK? Be prepared for import duties.

    It's a challenge to compose non-spectular motives. You did it very good! Amazing! How long do you watering your strips after developing?

    Great video! Btw if it's high contrast lighting like that if you cut back on the development time by 10-15% it'll help you keep the highlights and won't affect anything else.
    Btw Tmax 100 is a great alternative to Acros (RIP). If you shoot and develop at 50 iso, the latitude on sunny days is ridiculous

    It's an outstanding camera! I'm looking at picking up either the 55mm f4 or the 45mm f4 for my landscape work... not sure which one though!

    • @JonathanNotley
      @JonathanNotley  6 років тому

      I just filmed a video today using the 55mm F4, check out my Instagram for some shots with it as well

    • @JonathanNotley
      @JonathanNotley  6 років тому

      Make sure you get the 55mm F4 not the 3.5 super-takumar though. The later edition ‘SMC’ one is way better

    • @stuartmphoto415

      Jonathan Notley Awesome, I just followed you! Yeah I’ve seen the 55mm f4 SMC and I’m thinking about picking it up.

    • @randallstewart175
      @randallstewart175 6 років тому

      Both are great lenses and will serve well. I use the 55mm far more than my 45mm, because the 55mm is about the same as a 28mm on 35mm format. The 45mm is more like a 22mm, a bit too wide for me.The last version of the 55mm f4.0 is one of the best P67 lenses made - flawless.

    6:35 - 1/30th totally works ;-)
    By the way, you didn't mentioned did you scanned the film or had you made prints in the darkroom. Course if done in analog way, those trees at the top and dark areas under the bridge could totally be saved with just a little bit of dogging and burning...

    Is that the regular 67 or the 67 MU? Does the regular camera also feature a mirror up function?

    • @JonathanNotley
      @JonathanNotley  6 років тому +1

      It’s an MU, all the 67/67iis have mirror lock up and most of the 6x7s do as well. If you’re looking at buying one I’d definitely wait till your find an MU version because the mirror is enormous

    I have considered buying the Pentax 67 as well, but the mamiya 6 or mamiya 7 seems more handy. Any reasons to choose the pentax over these?

    • @JonathanNotley
      @JonathanNotley  5 років тому +2

      Price (body and lenses), TTL viewfinder, more teles available, waist level finder, tougher body, think you get a faster max shutter at 1/1000 but I might be mistaken, faster lenses (mami tops out at F4 for their rangefinders)

    250 quid??? With the 105mm it’s like 550 - 750. That’s 700-1000 US
