"The night janitor, Reki." As in Reki Kowahara, the writer of SAO proper. I've watched this series like a dozen times over and I only just now got that.
Everyone else who died did die. People don't seem to die instantly when killed in game, in the original iirc the item from the Christmas episode allow someone to resurrect player if they do it immediately after their death so there's a period during which you can still be saved. Kayaba presumably saved Kirito and Asuna during that grace period with his admin powers because Kirito tied with him.
Yea, I realized that afterwards when the explained the reasoning of why Kirito and asuna didn’t die. But it also makes sense that they wouldn’t kill off the main characters
@@TheLaughingMan313 The Divine Stone of Returning Soul most likely works by taking advantage of the 10 second grace period between the player character's death and the real player's death, halting the removal of the microwave's safeties.
So here's a thing about the King of Ashes? Remember that one joke from Heathcliff about using Asuna to convince Kirito to join? Well if you crop Asuna's text from the commander and flip it, you'll see that In the midst of his attempts to talk peace with the King of Ashes, Heathcliff may have asked Asuna to pin-up modeling. "Minor side-boob at most", plus asking Asuna what her thong size was. Kirito wasn't exactly pleased about this. So he sent a message to the King of Ashes that reads "I'll flay you alive"
So if you’re curious how Kirito managed to stab kayaba after death it’s never actually explained at this point, but a potential explanation is revealed later. Virtual Reality researchers later in the series realize that Kayaba accidentally tapped into what is essentially the human soul in order for VR to work. Because of which the code of the game can be altered if the player has enough will to do so. This is also why asuna was able to break out of admin paralysis. And in the scene where kayaba is venting his frustrations you can see other players struggling to break free.
Simpler to assume that Kirito was mortally wounded but he managed to stick Kayaba before his last HP was gone. And that, given the stakes of the duel, Kayaba had temporarily disabled the 'die in the game --> die for real' part of the code. So Kayabe, Kirito, and Asuna aren't immediately killed for real. Or it just takes a while before the system sends a kill command to a player's NerveGear. We know there's a few seconds delay built into that, so the life-saving object in Ep.2 of canon!SAO can work.
@@evelynshimmerscale3409 like I said, it wasn’t explained there, but if you watch Alicization it doesn’t take a leap in logic to assume that’s what’s happening. As a commenter further below says, kirito does gain the golden eye trait whenever his soul his overpowering the game.
I honestly like how Kirito figured out that Heathcliff is Kayaba in SAOA more than in the original SAO In the original it essentially boiled down to Kirito's ego being so hurt that he could not accept a player better than him despite the fact that the game just throws out unique skills to players that only they can then use, meaning, Heathcliff could've totally been just another player At least in the SAOA they made it that Kirito figured it out because of movie references and what Kayaba/Heathcliff himself said which is kinda basic but still miles better than the original SAO

There kinda was an after credits scene, but it is very short. At the very end, the screen of the arcade machine repurposed as the credits shows a timer for continuing playing, and as it fades to black and approaches zero, we hear the sound of a coin being inserted, hinting at the continuation of the abridged into the second arc (Alfheim Online).
The odd thing about SAO Abridged reactions is that many, many, many of the reactors who have seen SAO in the past do not remember the original series at all. I never saw the original, but was the writing really that generic that nobody can remember what happened? Great reaction though.
I don't think it actually has all that much to do with SAO in particular that makes it so people don't remember that much. I think a lot of it has to do with mass consumption of media leading to blurs in memory. That being said, SAO was generic wish-fulfilment fantasy with an OP MC and a harem of women that continuously fawn over him. I genuinely wish I could forget it as the repeated rapey scenes were a little too much for me.
Yes the original is extremely shallow and the abridged version actually fixes most of the originals problems on purpose for example in this episode they actually gave Kayaba a reason for doing what he did whilst in the original him forgetting is the actual explanation and you see how Kirito mocked Kayaba for being an childish op character that's completely invincible well that's just Kirito in the real anime, he's the blandest of op characters ever conceived for anime: he's got a harem except each girl is only relevant for an episode and then they become background characters, exclusive unique skills that transcend time and space, he never loses fair fights and he gets all this given to him, but hey in season one yeah him overpowering *some* players makes sense cause he's a beta tester for SAO but then in every subsequent season where he plays other games he not only keeps winning but he gets even more op the most egregious example is when he plays gungale as a swordsman GUN-gale the game about GUNS, he gets given a lightsabre, spideysense and super speed and then proceeded to be the top player in an FPS within two or three days using only melee even though he had never played an FPS before much less one in VR also since the previous top player happened to be a girl of course that means she gets added to the harem and all her skills completely disappear to make Kirito look better and after this season she just fades away.
I wouldn't say SAO is "generic" necessarily (although certainly there's been a lot of imitators in the years since, and a lot of them were just straight-up better and more interesting) but SAO does have the problem of having pretty mediocre writing and an overall shallow amount of worldbuilding. Most of the actually kind-of interesting stuff is explained five books later after anyone but the most hardcore fans would have already checked out, and to get to that point, it's just "The Melodramatic Adventures of Kirito and his ever-expanding harem".
Part of the problem with SAO is that the story itself is forgettable outside of the major parts. For instance you remember the death of Sachi, the dissolving of the group between Kirito and Asuna at the start, the heavy action episodes. But I'll bet you aren't as crisp on the ones SAOA added detail to like the hunt for Pina's recovery flower. Add to that Kirito's loner personality being totally able to help people and be social to others without any breaks whatsoever and you've got a recipe to really not remember the plot of the series very well. I re-watched SAO after watching up to ep 12 of the Abridged to see the differences and totally believed the story was rushed by them before realising 'oh, no he just wanted to end it there.'
The writting was really bad in og and most characters are so shallow you only remember the main casy because they appear all the time lol I sometimes forget kirito's real name . But I do remember the jokes and character development in saoa. Cause if it is not a funny bit it still has the more deep characters and better plot points going for it
So I never watched SAO before watching this as I was never into anime so I missed the cult following this show had when it first came out. I watched the original series because of this and honestly the abridged version is so much better. All the characters in the show have actual character, episodes cut out the unnecessary fluff, lots of character development, and much more. Hats off to the creators of the abridged version and I can't wait to see the rest of the series with you!
It's never said, but since the death thing was a mistake my head cannon is that at some point between episode 1 and 11 Kayaba fixed the bug and players who died after a certain point just went into a limbo waiting area
Here's another thing that Kayaba could have done. If he was able to make it so that he was treated as an immortal object , then couldn't he have done the same for everyone in the game?
"Immortal Object" appears to be the in-game tag for invincibility. He could have done that early on, when he first realized he was killing people, but he just as easily could have shut everything down and they'd be functionally equivalent.
BTW the guy who plays Kayaba/Heathcliff is also one of the writers of DBZ abridged, where he also plays Nappa and Cell etc Also I think Kirito's voice actor makes an appearance in the DBZA world's strongest movie
So, something about the dead characters: in canon the item one from Renegade Claus was indeed a revival item, but it would only worked in a short time frame. My theory (since the show never says it outright) is that the platform they're on at the end there is where dead players wait for that time to expire. Whereupon they... actually die.
Yeah, Kirito isn't messing around after Asuna dies, he legit loses focus on everything else and can't even be himself without Asuna because of how broken he is AND how dysfunctional their relationship is. After the Black Cats, he's basically an empty vessel, slowly finding ways to replace the humanity he probably never really had until he met her and he was grateful he had friends, but compared to her, not even dying matters anymore. And his final attack that kills Kiyaba is because he's tired of losing people and having no power to change it.
I finally realized and noticed that he said my tutorial NPC was nowhere to be found, and that was the NPC the moonlight black cats guild master had in their party 😂
Opening song is actually Jared Leto's band Thirty Seconds to Mars. When you go into the official video comments, the majority say they are there because of SAOA
I only just now realized Kirito digging into the game maker with child like jokes about him was just him aiming for his emotional weakspots, because knowing him he would have respected clever jabs and movie refrence insults, but like kirito he can't stand dumb people so Kirito just digs in with cheap low effort kid insults to keep him there just long enough to get annoyed enough to accept his challenge.
Can’t remember if it ever explained in the show how kirito won and asuna survived. It’s either ballsy used the resurrection item on asuna and kirito just will powered through the system Or ballsy used the item of kirito and kayaba kept asuna alive to reward him.
I actually felt way worse for Asuna's "death" and Kirito's pain here than on the og show, even if I knew what happened on the original, was so much more fond of these characters 😢
For all of the knowledge that Kayaba had for movies, he got the reference for the saying, "I reject your reality and substitute it with my own," wrong. It didn't come from Dungeonmaster. That's just the movie that popularized it. The earliest known quote in a movie was the James Bond movie Dr. Who. So, both Kirito and Kayaba were wrong. As we can see, no matter how smart you are, you can make mistakes and don't know everything.
Kayaba is partially to blame for all the player deaths. But...this is an MMO we're talking about. A kind of game where the dumbest people from all over the internet tend to gather. For example, some clowns were playing Bejeweled during the first boss fight in episode 2. Keita took plenty of NPCs, including the tutorial one, depriving other players from finishing those quests. Suffice to say, Kayaba getting fully fed up with such stupidity is par for the course.
Hear me out speaking to other commenters … it starts with a dvd transference to vhs 3a-b class movies several c class movies delivered to several theaters in zones with an android there where more options… this is awesome there’s more to it though … was that cell? Anyways these are awesome.
at 2:57 u said u never heard that song , well i doubt that ^^^^^^^^ : "This Is War" from Thirty Seconds to Mars But yeah i didnt notice that aswell when i watched it for the first time some years ago xd
Haven't seen the comparison video you're talking about , but I think ou hit the nail on the head when you said the characters have personality now. While things work out well in this abridged format for me personally getting out of the game here is probably the biggest killer of this show. Thinking about it in even a loosely believable context, after getting out of this game there is no reason at least 90% of the survivors wouldn't have either severe PTSD or or a complete psycological withdrawl because they want to go back and can't face reality anymore. Even more so the stakes in every follow on season are just not as high and compelling and much like the ghost episode it makes no sense why Kirito is the one that HAS to be involved all the time
Why does nobody get it. It's literally spelled out in this episode. Unless something intervenes everybody dies ten seconds after their in game death (Santas Item). When Kirito asked Kayaba to prevent Asuna from suiciding he did some GM shit to protect her hence why asuna is fine. Then when he was supposed to die in the fight Kirito overode the system with sheer willpower to keep himself alive long enough to kill Kayaba thus overriding the kill switch. And if you doubt the willpoer thing I vaguely remember Kitio discussing it with a ghost of Kayaba on the Alfeim servers at the end of the Alfheim online stuff.
So no one is gonna mention the absolute esoteric brilliance of the "Oh my God! It's Methusalah Honeysuckle!" line? I can't be the only one here who gets that reference. Does anyone know what that is from? I know it's super niche, although not really more than the reference to Dungeonmaster (Ragewar: Challenges of Excalibrate).
Actually, Kayaba was wrong. A quick check shows that Dungeonmaster wasn't the origin of the saying, "I reject your reality..." The first known use of it in a movie was in the James Bond movie Dr. Who, even though it was Dungeonmaster that popularized it. I don't know about where the Methuselah Honeysuckle line came from, however.

So from what I understand in the original it turned out that no one actually died. The game creators motivation for all of this is completely unknown. I'm the abridged everyone who was killed in the game did in fact die in reality however the glitch that kills people activates during some kind of log out sequence so there's a small time delay after their character is killed. In a game like this there would probably be a re-spawn timer after dying. The real world death seems to happen as soon as you respawn so there is a timer between in-game death and real world death

im hyped for the saoa analysis vid reactions, they rlly put in perspective how much of an improvement teh abridged is over the original
Opening song is actually Jared Leto's band Thirty Seconds to Mars. When you go into the official video comments, the majority say they are there because of SAOA
27:25 - Yes, people die when they are killed. :p
I only just now realized Kirito digging into the game maker with child like jokes about him was just him aiming for his emotional weakspots, because knowing him he would have respected clever jabs and movie refrence insults, but like kirito he can't stand dumb people so Kirito just digs in with cheap low effort kid insults to keep him there just long enough to get annoyed enough to accept his challenge.
too wholesome! Keep it up great video :)
Hey, please continue with 50% Off. I couldn't help it and binged the entire series after seeing you react to the first few episodes!
Can’t remember if it ever explained in the show how kirito won and asuna survived.
It’s either ballsy used the resurrection item on asuna and kirito just will powered through the system
Or ballsy used the item of kirito and kayaba kept asuna alive to reward him.
In the original anime, Kayaba DID say that he forgot why he locked everyone in the game. SWE fixed that.
Actually this is the end of the first half of season one. Season 2 starts with Kirito going to another game genre altogether
Is she ever gonna realize it's brave new world and not brand new world
Since Heathcliff broke his promise during the duel, Kirito was able to fight on after getting "killed".
"Could you IMAGINE"
Hear me out speaking to other commenters … it starts with a dvd transference to vhs 3a-b class movies several c class movies delivered to several theaters in zones with an android there where more options… this is awesome there’s more to it though … was that cell? Or Alucard ? …lol it’ll take some time and a cheap three piece suit with a gram “business card.” The irs is much larger yet seems like a Cold War in this economy with legit anamolies in my zone … takes several watches and it changes. Anyways these are awesome.
The funny thing is that although the abridge plays the theme music; the actual anime doesn’t for the final fight. Lol.
cant wait to watch you watch the fairy dance arc its so good
You will see a few of these voice actors in dbz abriged
Oh yeah the night janitor Reki I think he was mentioned Reki Kawahara :v
at 2:57 u said u never heard that song , well i doubt that ^^^^^^^^ : "This Is War" from
Thirty Seconds to Mars
But yeah i didnt notice that aswell when i watched it for the first time some years ago xd
You did such a great job with the entire 1st season of this. Big fan!
Even more so the stakes in every follow on season are just not as high and compelling and much like the ghost episode it makes no sense why Kirito is the one that HAS to be involved all the time
That song is Escape by 30 seconds to Mars aka Jared leto
My bad. It is "this is war." Jared Leto is still the person who is singing it though.
F*cking Bethesda indeed
the song is called this is war
Publisher issue sounds like Cyberpunk all over again
Infinity +2 damage now that's a throw back 😂
And there would always be a guy like well mine can do Infinity + 3 😁
If you don't know the Leeroy Jenkins reference, you should watch the video on youtube.
@@chb2551 It's from Psych, a TV show on the USA network about a quirky detective who is a psychic (but not really).
And well done on the Dr. Who reference! Even I didn't catch that one.
@@Atamastra I love the show but didn't know the reference. I did look it up before my comment, like the Dr. Who one, but I wasn't sure if that was what you were talking about or if you had heard of it being in a movie too.
mean alot to me and so much moments and sad ones with them and had so much feels and watching with animelon and fans and you guys mean alot to me as well and seeing comments and watching together and characters as well
27:25 people really died, kirito beating kayaba just shut downed the game and the players that survived leaved the game
If you want another abridged series to replace this one once you catch up with it I recommend bleach s abridged on the project mouthwash channel. That channel has about the same writing quality as tfs and something witty entertainment in my opinion
this is you: 🤯
lol
>know none of the references
Well, watch Highlander at least. The OG, with Sean Connery and Clancy Brown, or as I remember him "The Kurgan". If you're not sure and are okay with spoilers, look up "there can be only one" and you'll easily find the climax scene that displays both the overall conflict and the Kurgan's insanity (albeit without context, which is really where the film makes you wanna cheer after the fight)
6:48 okay, I was thinking what a bullshit was that parody on SAO... but this part was actualy super funny :D :D :D
BTW @AniMelon didnt see the original or why are you making that face "What has happened?" You dont know this is SAO but with completely different voiceover?
Not a single comment about 2gs sao abridged, this is a great shows but 2gs just hits different
I think rewatching the show before you started this would have been a bonus for you and this reaction series as a whole. To be clear I enjoy the reactions, but some of the things you missed were actually central plot points and call backs.
Watch Highlander! The director's cut or the European release if possible! I'd love to see your reaction to it
i just noticed how much kirito sound loke eric cartman
No episode 11 is nit end season 1 its end of the first arc the8r is 2 arcs in season 1 people not very familair with the show that may skimed it think sao ended at ep 11 when it didnt
whats more movies made in the 80's 90's
Been watching your videos, and I'm not sure if you know it's there or not, but it sounds like your audio is only coming out of my right earbud. I'm not a master editor, but have done a bit of video editing, and there should be a way to balance it as long as you're recording your audio separate from what you're watching.
Worst-case scenario, you can download what you're watching separately (I've noticed a ton of reaction channels doing this recently), and overlay it so you can adjust the audio separately. Let me know if you want help with it and I'd be happy to help you figure it out over email. I'm not a professional, so it'd just be me sharing what little I know from trying to do UA-cam myself a couple of years ago.
Ahh yes. I’m sorry for the lower quality in audio. Unfortunately this is how I have to do it until I have the funds to get a mic and headset. I also want to get a pc, but takes time and money. I have been talking with people, should be soon of some sorts. It be great to have an upgrade. I haven’t really got comments about sound quality on this channel, so wasn’t too worried about it. Thank you for letting me know though.
@@Animelon It's not taking away from the content by any means. Just thought I'd let you know it can be balanced via software. I've worked with a crap mic for years, and have had to do all kinds of adjusting to make it work.
Keep up the great content!
RageWar :The Challenges of Excalibrate 1984 scfi movie
You didn't watch to the very tail-end of the credits?
Should do the movie Tron and Tron, Legacy..
Honestly? The abridged version has so much better explanations for why things happened.
You should do bleach abridged
Slight spoiler for ep. 12
it's real, you can check it for yourself
Hi Melon my name Andrew Michael Rowland I am 32 years old
And I love anime my first impression with anime the original pokemon And yugoh and I have been in love with anime ever since
I have 👀 every session of Sword art online and I love it yes it has it problems but I don't think it deserves the hatred it gets
Oh keep up the great work girl you put a smile 😃 on my face I think you're pretty and funny
I'm sorry for flirting but you're gorgeous
Wholesome for 5 seconds then you hear a old man clapping fish.
Nope people did actually die
