I really enjoyed the most recent production of the Tommy and Tuppence stories (David Walliams and Jessica Raine …Partners In Crime) and was extremely disappointed when the series was cancelled. I wish they would bring it back and make new episodes.
Quick question about these two... How the hell has Hollywood not beaten down the door to make movies? Hollywood has had this... BIZARRE need to make Agatha Christie come off as... For lack of a better word, sexy? There are certain adaptations of Hercule Poirot (the bizarre Molina version springs to mind) that portray him as this suave, lover type. Miss Marple rarely gets the same treatment, but when she is adapted they tend to have her be the outlier in a massive web of somewhat scandalous content. These two are, for lack of a better word, SEXY Agatha Christie. A young couple, very much in love, neither of them coming off as prudish or chaste as Poirot and Marple. This seems like a great thing for Hollywood. All that attractiveness, with all the Agatha Christie class you could ask for. How did it take THIS VIDEO for me to learn about them?
Perhaps an equally good question is how has Hollywood not revived The Thin Man? Nick and Nora Charles were once well-known in the mystery lover field and they have the benefit of being American... that's *very* important to Hollywood. They're due a revival. The only issue I'm seeing? It's VERY hard for writers to come up with a long-term, HAPPILY married couple. Even here they had to flanderize the Beresford's faults to create an arc. Gomez and Morticia, Robert and Cora Crawley, and... I'm honestly drawing a blank for others that fit the bill. Oh sure, there's plenty of young, recently-married couples in media that are loving, but nowadays it seems like you only find spouse who've been together for years AND are still mad about each other in older sitcoms like the Brady Bunch or Dick Van Dyke Show.
@@Unownshipper I shudder to think what a modern take on Nick and Nora will look and most importantly sound like. I suspect plenty of Marvel """humor""" and useless action scenes ala Branagh's Poirot or an endless string of bitter fights and extra marital affairs because uS duMb dUmB eAsiLY bOrEd auDiEnce nEed tHe DRamAaa.
You summarice it well at the end. This is a fine movie but not the best adaptation - but it was my introduction to Tommy and Tuppence and I can say it was pretty good one. I enjoyed book versions much more and was happy I had seen this first and be happily supriced in book relationship rather than other way around. Thank you for your hard work!
I once found a website where it explains this book as one of it’s spookiest Agatha Christies, then I read the book and I know why the website said that
I have had a few exposures to Tommy & Tuppence now(these ones, the mini series and one book) and I believe these were the first versions I saw and well he put me right off them for awhile.
This episode scared the shit out of me as a kid ("Milk, my dear?"), but I was mostly bothered that Miss Marple was in what was supposed to be a Tommy & Tuppence story. I might give it a rewatch now that I'm an adult and have a more mature view of adaptations. EDIT: I hope you do Nemesis at one point: that was another one that bothered me as a child, and I'd be interested to know if it was as bad as I remember or if it's actually good.
Awww…I wanted “Secret Adversary” 😞, it’s my favorite Tommy and Tuppence novel and in the book’s only adaptation, James Warwick and Francesca Annis do an *EXCELLENT* job being Tommy and Tuppence
Perhaps, an adaptation should have Tommy and Tuppence's investigations running parallel to one another. Tuppence could be calling Tommy when she's bonked!
I think this show could have been a good spin off. It seems to me that this shows that the two were close but then sort of had a gap form because of jobs and children. Tuppence is a smidge rusty, but gains her confidence and sobriety later. So this could have been an introduction to them/possible spin off. But it didn’t.
Ive seen the 80s adaptation of the Tommy and Tuppence, and really enjoyed it. I know there's a more recent tv adaptation. Can anyone tell me, is it worth watching?
I haven’t read the stories so I don’t know how they are in terms of faithfulness, but Tuppence is probably the most frustrating character on the show. “I almost got killed trying to sneak into a suspect’s house alone. Let’s do the exact same thing two more times in the same episode because I’m some kind of adrenaline junkie”
For the recent Tommy and Tuppence TV adaptation, They changed it so it all takes place within the same time period, that's all I can remember at the minute!
I know, you don‘t like Kenneth Branaghs Poirot Adaptations, but what is your opinion of the 2017 Adaptation of Crooked House? Will you make a video about it?

Yeah, I know what you mean. We get all those creepy Phelps adaptations but the one that's actually kinda fun is left to wallow.
Six degrees to Charles Dance. I forgot he was in this episode. The guy is everywhere.
Don’t ever stop making these videos-they’re fantastic!

@@Unownshipper Let me, the Superman and Spider Man fan, pretend that's a problem exclusive to Hollywood. It eases the pain.

It's bad. And yes, I'm doing it soon. :)

Seriously, that entire movie is beyond baffling. Also, WHY DO THEY ALWAYS ADAPT NEMESIS BEFORE CARRIBBEAN MYSTERY?!

I think I will, though to be honest I'm not quite sure how I feel about it yet.
the newest T&T are pretty bad. Tommy is a boob! why? Sad. Tuppence isn't bad but saddled with him she is hampered.
