- Recently I came across a budget fish finder on major clearance at Walmart and decided it was time to install some electronics in my Budget Boat.

Love the time you took to explain how you built that power box and how it operates the Humminbird and can also charge phones/GPS etc. Very slick. Hope the install and technology puts you onto more fish!
Nice upgrade to the budget boat! I need one in my kayak but never got around to it.
If I was buying full price I think the Garmin striker has more features for a similar price, but at that clearance price I couldn’t pass it up.
nice, I need a fish finder find like that
I hope you find one!
I would like to see a video on how you connected everything.
I just got that fish finder for my birthday and I have a similar boat. I’m going to try and replicate your configuration.
There’s more details in this video

@@TheBudgetSportsman thank you
Going to every Wal-Mart in town till I find 1. Awesome video.
Keep in mind this video was made last summer so it’s unlikely that most Walmart’s will have them on clearance right now, but maybe you will get lucky!
Picked one up for 45 from my Walmart as well today!!
Fantastic. I’ve started seeing people posting on Facebook about finding them for as low as $30. It seems very hit and miss if stores have them marked down.
Looks like a good deal. The BB will soon be all decked out 👍
Little by little, its getting there.
Great job brother on the information
Glad to help
Lucky your walmart employees put it on the shelve even! Ours buy it then sale it online at just under full price!, but thanks for the video, i just bought the same unit....online🤦🏻♂️😅
Haha. I checked several Walmarts to see if any others had it on clearance but they did not. However, I did hear of quite a few other people who picked one up at other Walmarts for even less than I paid.
Maayung aga po ser,mam .San po na may tinda ng fish finder na piranhamax ..may run po ba dito sa iloilo city..
Just curious, when you bought that fish finder what was supplied to connect to the power source. Ring terminals, bare wires or what😊
I want to say it was bare wires, that was a long time ago.
@@TheBudgetSportsman nice. Thanks. I can make it work
Did you wire all this to your starting battery or have a separate battery?
The motor in this boat does not have electric start, so my battery was for trolling motor/electronics.
My newer boat, has electric start and I run it off the starter and electronics off the same battery. Might not be the best plan but it’s been working so far.
That’s what I like about your channel. Informative and the variety. Your going to have to change the name of the boat to the budget yacht. How easy was the fish finder to read from where you were sitting? Or did you have to get close?
The screen is bright and easy to read even from where I was sitting. If I was being picky I would wish the screen was a little bigger but it’s really not a big deal...especially for the price.
Great video 👍
Thanks
Good job!
Thanks
Great video!
Thanks! Last comment I got on this video said it was horrible so thanks for your positive feedback.
This was awesome. Nice job dude
Thank! So glad you enjoyed the video. I’ll have another video coming out in the next few weeks of finally adding navigation lights to the boat.
@@TheBudgetSportsman can’t wait
@@TheBudgetSportsman how was all of that powered?
@@largemammaloutdoors4503 I tied into the main feed coming from my trolling motor battery. I used a set of jumper cables to run from my battery which I have in the front of the boat for weight distribution to the back where my trolling motor is.
@@TheBudgetSportsman very nice
Awesome vid. Can you please tell what size / brand of battery you are using in this box? Thanks
I don’t have a battery in the box but I’m using a marine deep cel battery I purchased from rural king that also runs my trolling motor. I have another video on my channel that shows more of the wiring on my boat.

HELP!!!!!!!!!! how did you wire it? how is the switch board connected to your battery? and the little "snake tongue" at the end of the power wire to the PiranhaMax4... it just connects to the switch board? that's the part in having trouble with. maybe ill just buy the switch board and try to figure it out. do you have to use a fuse, or the switchboard takes care of power regulation? i have a marine battery and a battery box to put it in, but it doesn't have a switch panel. it has a 10 amp accessory breaker, and a 60 amp breaker for the trolling motor, is that too many amps? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ua-cam.com/video/UhfMjPgYrbo/v-deo.html
This video might answer some of your questions, I’ll try to answer a few as well.
Your marine power box is a great start. Using that 60a breaker for your trolling motor is a good idea.
If you buy the switch panel I have it does have inline fuses.
You will need to feed your main power wire (usually red) into the switch panel which will provide power to all your switches.
The negative (usually black) needs to go to a negative grounding bar or bus bar. You can buy one or make one. It’s just a metal contact where all the negative wires connect together.
You will need to take the red wire from your fish finder and connect it to the red wire of one of your switches. The black wire needs to connect to your negative grounding bar.
Saw the finder for 30 seconds
I’m sorry the video wasn’t what you were expecting. This was not intended to be a review, but rather an update on my budget boat.
BTW, there is a solid minute showing the finder later in the video. That’s twice what you saw…so maybe you didn’t see the whole thing.
Hey bud. Can you do a run down of the wiring of the the power box?
If you can get on Facebook and send me (The Budget Sportsman) a message, I will be glad to send you some pictures or answer any questions that you have.
@@TheBudgetSportsman Think I'm going to do the same thing. Hahaha. So keep an eye out for a message! Thanks
How do you like this fish finder
It works fine especially give the clearance price that I paid. If I was going to pay full price then I would probably pay a few dollars more for the garmin striker that has GPS and basic mapping built in.
Just bought the same finder from Walmart closeout for $26.79
That’s awesome. I thought I got a fantastic deal, but I’ve been seeing a lot of people posting on Facebook and getting them for under $30. They never went that low in my area.
The Budget Sportsman , thanks , I’m fired up. They only had one but I jumped on it. I’m doing a budget fishing kayak myself. With Covid shutdown and losing my bar everything has to be low budget!
What all comes with the fish finder?
Fish finder, transducer, mount, power cable (needs to be wired in.)
Was it on sale or a markdown? In other words, can I find the same one for the same price at my store do you think?
Sorry I wasn't actually clear on that in the video. It was on clearance. My understanding is that it would be store specific pricing, not necessarily the same at every store, but it would certainly be worth checking out!
You can also use a website called brickseek. You can search for the pirahnamax fish finder and it should tell you if any of your local stores have it discounted.
@@TheBudgetSportsman thank you for the info
Do you believe it to be accurate for depth?
Yes it seems to be close. I would say if anything it reads a little low when in shallow water. It will read 2’ when I’m pretty sure I’m closer to 3. I would much rather that way than telling me I’m in 3 when really I’m in 2 😊
@@TheBudgetSportsman thank you
Hi,
do you know what could be the reason my PiranhaMax 4 to constantly show different depths? It happened to show a depth of 100 meters in real 20 meters.
I don’t know for sure but I’m guessing it could be interference from something like the prop or the boat itself, especially if it’s not mounted correctly.
Incorrect mounting or interference
Got my fish finder for $34 👍
Very nice! Was it the same one.
Than god. I just want a decent way to tell what I'm floating on top of and how far I am above it. I'm seeing engine interface and 7k price points...
Omg I can’t figure something out I have this fish finder and it gives me
Crazy Depths like 200 ft I know it’s not that deep is it in like demo mode or something please help ?
Mine does this when the transducer is not deep enough in the water. So I get good readings when moving slow but when my boat is on plane the transducer rises up out of the water and then gives me weird readings. It could also be interference from the boat or motor.
My transducer is at the bottom of my bow right beside my motor
Bottom of the bow sounds good but could be some interference from you motor.
@@TheBudgetSportsman I’ll have to check it out just drives me crazy
