  • USDA estimated the 2022-23 U.S. wheat production total at 55 million short tons.
That is a lot of harvesting!
Thanks to the advances in technology the days of grain cradles are long gone.
In this episode we're going on a journey to explore the world of giant combine harvesters. These machines are the unsung heroes of the agriculture industry, helping farmers bring in the harvest and feed the world.
The Case IH Axial Flow 9250 combine harvester has a total weight of approximately 44,000 pounds and is approximately 23 feet in length.
The Fendt IDEAL 10T, a powerful combine harvester that is powered by a MAN 16.2l engine capable to deliver a maximum output of 790 hp. This giant has a total separation area of 48 ft² and its grain tank size is 485 bu.
In 2020, the Claas Lexion 8900 was recognised as the biggest combine harvester in the world. It has a grain tank that can hold up to 4755 gallons and can be emptied in 100 seconds.
As the largest combine ever built by John Deere, X9 combine harvester has a performance of 200,000 pounds /hour - that’s an 3,600 pounds trailer every nine minutes.
The Tribine T1000 is a one-of-a-kind, 23t orange monolith strong enough to carry its own body weight in grain and with the stamina to run for 24-hours straight. This giant machine is the largest combine harvester in the world. Its rear section is home to a massive grain tank.

350 acres an hour? Obviously they have little to no factual research. Almost 10x what a combine actually harvests, and that is crop dependant

What farmer talks gallons. Is this just to have BIG numbers or just one of those things like cubic foot to therms in natural gas?

I hope putting the X9 higher than the Lexion was a joke… the claas has the best harvesting performance right now, nothing compares. It has less than half the grain loss of the X9 (and you can repair the Lexion without getting sued which is a bonus).

The John Deere x9 is bigger better and more powerful and your dinky little toy that’s gonna fall apart in 30 ft is a piece of garbage

Wow. What a mess! I have never lived or worked on a farm but I gotta say, even for a putz like me, this guys math and narration are shit. First capacity listed in gallons, the next in bushels. The third listed twice, almost in the same sentence, once at 4755 gallons, the second time it shows the same stat on screen but the narration says 47,550.
The sixteen point two one engine. I think they meant sixteen point two liter. At least that what the graphic said.
The X9 weighs 6,400lbs while the rest of them weigh in 44,000 or so?
350 acres an hour? I'm not really all that good at math but as near as I can figure, with a 30 foot header, that would be about 96mph, if you were to travel in a straight line. I'm pretty sure most farms are more than 30 feet wide so turning at the end of the field would be fun.
Rain or shine? Is this really a thing? I can only see the machine getting clogged real quick. Not to mention the open hopper letting all the harvested grain get soaked and probably rotting.
I think Interesting Engineering needs to hire a proof reader/fact checker.
