I am 75 and every day, I remember my Italian upbringing, and all the warmth and love of my large extended family. I perfect and practice making traditional dishes from my mother's original recipes. I just returned from 2 weeks in my ancestral home town, where after 43 years, I reconnected with my mother's side. There ware at least 40 people at the reunion dinner. Love effused from everywhere. Even strangers greeted us as if we were long lost relatives. You can't beat Italian familial culture.
I am 73 years old now, and I have heard this song every once in maybe 5 years or so throughout my entire life it seems. And I have loved it every time. Even though I learned a little bit of Italian when I was a little boy, I never understood any more than a half dozen words in this song. But I still love it so much... such a happy cadence, mixed with the magically entertaining Italian language. But why could I only understand 3% of the words?

So for those wondering why the onscreen lyrics don't match what's being sung in Italian, it's because he's singing in the Sicilian dialect. Southern dialects shorten words and replace some letters (ex: sometimes r's become d's, c's become g's)
