He did try and fail to destroy the Empire. I wouldn't say that's very aspiring for a Sith. Especially because the in fighting is what made the Empire so weak even after huge wins. Like retaking Corellia.

Malgus killed his own wife instead of letting others use that attachment against him. Then he broke the Sith Emperor's hold on him, truly living up to "Through Victory, my chains are Broken. The Force shall free me". Vader's anger was different from Malgus' anger, it is like an uncontrolled flood versus a concentrated stream of water (like a water jet cutter) able to slice a mountain in half.

A lot of people don't understand Vader like you did. He was based off traditional Greek tragedy. He had no chance.
Malgus was a black Knight, a looming shadow. Vader? Behind his robotics, his hate, his power...he's broken. He is despair incartne. That is the opposite of Malgus.

In some weird/twisted ways I do think Sidious cared for his appearances on some twisted level.
For Sidious to gift Vader one of his most prized possessions and when reading it thought of the similarities to Vader shows me that he at least kept him in his thoughts. I don’t mean care in the way most people would think of, but at least thought of on a more favorable level than the other people of the galaxy

Tbf he had known Vader since he was just a boy, so there would at least be some small level of paternalism in the care he had for him. From all accounts it did seem that Sidious truly did want to see Vader grow in power and potential, the same way a father would his son. He never took a second apprentice while he was master to Vader either, unlike every other apprentice of his and nearly every other Sith Lord alike

If you think about it, that shows how immensely powerful and connected Palpatine is in the dark side because he didn't have that raw anger that Malgus had, that's why he tried to push Anakin. I really think that Anakin's anger really subsided once Obi-Wan died, he really had no one else to hate, so there was nothing to sustain the raw anger that kept him tethered to the dark side

Darth Malgus, a formidable and relentless presence, emerges as a truly captivating character within the Star Wars universe. His unwavering commitment to the Dark Side of the Force is nothing short of awe-inspiring, representing the epitome of power born from sacrifice. Malgus' mastery of the Force and his commanding intelligence amalgamate into a force to be reckoned with, challenging all who dare to oppose him.
What sets Malgus apart is the remarkable fusion of his boundless hatred with a singular, unswerving purpose. His capacity to channel this immense hate into a focused, goal-driven pursuit is a testament to his character's complexity. It is this very duality that makes him not only a fearsome antagonist but also a character of profound depth and intrigue.
As an ardent fan of the Star Wars lore, I find Darth Malgus to be an enthralling embodiment of the Sith ethos. His presence in "Star Wars: The Old Republic: Deceived" leaves an indelible mark on readers, compelling them to revisit his story repeatedly. I wholeheartedly recommend immersing oneself in this captivating narrative, as it offers a glimpse into the darkest corners of the Force and the relentless determination of a Sith Lord who has left an enduring legacy in the Star Wars galaxy.

I think he valued the effect on Vader more than he valued Malgus himself. I don't honestly think Palps understood love and therefore could not really comprehend the effect of loss. He could however get some insight as to how this loss thing could be used to manipulate Vader. And as he spent years trying to accomplish this we can assume it was high on his priority list. I also think that it may have been inspiration for what he created in Vader. Depending on WHEN he obtained the journal. That info would be telling...

Both Malgus and Vader were not only evil, sadistic, cruel and brutal men, they also based their lives on a fundamental flaw of logic. “Power”, the ability to compel others to obey your wishes, is not an end in and of itself, but only a MEANS to an end. No wise man seeks power for its own sake, for that is purposeless; you seek power in order to achieve a goal or purpose. The reason Sidious himself seems often discontent after achieving his greatest victory and destroying the Jedi and raising the Empire is because now he no longer had a purpose. He eventually found another one, achieving immortality, but even that is kind of a cheat; if you get immortality then you needn’t fear death, but then what? Now you are again without purpose and this will never end until you make yourself pursue a new goal. Lucas clearly intended his villains to be such men of power, but of deeply flawed vision, and its what redeems them from being the cut out bad guys from which he drew inspiration for the original trilogy. Such one dimensional villains are boring because their goals are boring : make the hero suffer, take over the world … yawn. Seen that. But a villain who kills his own lover out of twisted philosophy? Now that’s interesting.

Actually, Sidious did know that Vader only saw it as a means to the end, because he used it as the primary means to recruit Anakin the first place. It didn't particularly matter to Sidious that it was the only thing Vader had left because the way Sidious saw it, Vader was nothing more than someone who could do his dirty work until a much better prospect came along.

I remember I showed SWTOR to some of my friends back in the day. All of them were like (about Malgus): "He looks like a cheap ass Vader copy."
They played the game for some time and learned: Malgus was the OG

Darth Malgus was the Second True Sith Emperor never forget that in his research he was inspired by ancient sith writing's if something cannot be fixed it must be destroyed and rebuilt he followed the ancient wisdom of pureblood sith Emperor Malgus was an inspiration to all future Sith to follow he was perhaps the second greatest Sith from Vitiate's Empire next to Dark lord Jadus

Building his Empire on the power of anger was both a wise idea, and the seed of its destruction. The Rebellion was built on anger as well, anger against the brutality and injustice of the Empire, but also on hope. The hope that they could overcome. In the end, it's arguably what helped them win.

Anger is when there is some power you want and are denied. So the more power you have the less angry you will be. So there's a negative feedback loop there. If it were the other way around, if you gained more power from the calm satisfaction of attaining power, that would be a positive feedback loop which would ever expand. Just some food for thought.

This is extremely twisted and dark. I understand this but.. it's twisted. Vader followed Malgus for years. But in the end there were differences. Malgus was extremely powerful. One of the greatest Sith. May the Force be with you too :)

  • @ViewTube_Emperor_of_Mankind

Even with Vaders anger.. anger against Sidious.. himself.. the Jedi.. Obi-Wan.. it pales in comparison to what Malgus had become. Chaining him in that space station only makes him more angr, giving him more power.

I am wondering, if Palpatine would give him journal, if he didn't suffer defea and lost his limbs etc. (But still killed his wife etc.) To me, its seems like he wants to use his injuries to fuel his anger to strength his connection with dark side to compensate crippling injuries that limited him. It could be way, he intended to restore him to his chosen one potential, purely through dark side connection. (Not saying he succeed, just it could be try to achieve this.)

malgus understood that one of the key attributes of the force was conflict and he relished in becoming the very avatar of conflict. the main difference between him and vader that i see is that malgus was conscious of his actions and intent while vader was ruled by his unconscious actions which ultimately led to feelings of powerlessness. sidious clearly used this to keep him on a short leash. sidious also perverted the teachings of malgus and bane by reflecting hate onto the galaxy to ensure his survival. the very notion of parasitism. the strongest sith stood tall, and strong plumming the unknown depths of knowledge in the force.
