If you do cut the strap off the bag you should be able to get 2 clips from either a craft shop or amazon like the ones on your smaller strap you attached too the bag, if you then use a jump ring to add the clips on the old strap you can swap them over if you need too.

Freddy, since you love LA and the shopping outdoors I had to suggest you do some shopping in Carmel, CA and Santana Row. 17 mile drive and the Monterey bay aquarium is a must as well if you ever do make your way to NorCal.
