Also, before anyone else mentions it, I totally meant to leave the "frame analysis" banding on one bit of the vid. I liked the, err, look of it 🤦🏻♂️ #professional
I've always stayed away from repairs like this- but it seems do-able, thanks for the tutorial and good luck with the carb.... something else I know sweet fa about lol
Repairs are always a bit of a voyage of discovery for me. Apply the principles of the repair, but figure out the detail as you go. Truth is, the proof is in the pudding and it will only prove itself over time 👍🏻
Never say never with a repair, eh 😎. Gotta admit, I like its repaired look, it adds character, but will probably end up replacing it with a longer range tank anyway 🤷🏻♂️
The more I think about this, the more I think You're going to have problems. Years ago I repaired a GP100 tank with epoxy it worked, for a bit, but it didn't last. Once the fuel is past that I don't think the tape adhesive has much chance and then it's down to the fibreglass and I'm pretty sure Ethanol will attack the polyester resin. Having gone this route, perhaps an ethanol resistant tank sealer might be a good idea?
Hi Steve, truth is, I'm not sure how long the repair will last, I've not tested it before. The tape is ridiculously resistant to chemicals, so we will see. I suspect in time, I'll buy the long range tank that's available, just not right now. A tank sealer might well be a good interim solution 👍🏻

Top job. I’ve got a leaking tank. I’ll give this a go.
What's the worst that can happen 🤷🏻♂️
Think I’m really going to enjoy this series 👍
...hmm It will be nice if you show when you prepare recina with fiber befores you apply. Thank s
Interesting video, thanks. Never had to repair a tank, and I must admit I thought this one was a gonner! Les

@@lightweightadv hmm, expensive! Les
have you thought of drilling the ends of the cracks to prevent stress risers?
That's a technique we use on most stressed parts on aircraft! But seeing as this wasn't stressed, I didn't feel it needed it. Thanks for the comment 😎
Question
How does the fuel get from one side to the other when lower than the middle hunch?
Wouldn't plastic welding have worked?

Gave up on mine. Found someone that makes them from kevlar.
fiberglass cannot hold gas
Hey George, that's right, but the tape used is made to resist fuel. The fibreglass is really only there for belt and braces 👌🏻
