Elliott and Mullins each had 5 in last year's National - none of Elliott's runners actually finished and Mullins had just 2 that got round, finishing 3rd and 14th respectively - in all of the handicaps at last season’s Cheltenham Festival, I believe Elliott only had more than four runners in two races - the 26 runner Coral Cup and the 21 runner Martin Pipe and the closest any of his runners finished in either race was a 5th place in the Martin Pipe.
Incidentally, I don't remember the Powers at the time wanting to restrict Martin Pipe when he was saddling 10 National runners in the 2001, 8 National runners in 2002, 7 National runners each in 2003 & 2004 and 5 National runners each in 1993, 1994 & 1998……or at the Festival when he ran 6 in the 2002 Mildmay of Fleet and had the 1st and 2nd or the 5 he had in (what is now) the Pertempts Final that he won with Unsinkable Boxer or the 5 he had in the County Hurdle which he also won. Funny how the only trainers likely to be affected by this potential new rule is Elliott and Mullins..........I am sure that is just nothing but a coincidence.
The BHA have raised an issue that is a non issue and quite frankly they have much more important matters to be dealing with than trying to solve a problem that is not an actual problem in the first place.
i think a trainer should be allowed as many horses to run in a race as he wants.....as long as they run on their merits there is no problem......dont think punters care
Mark Johnson does it and wins with his less fancied horse.i think that annoys punters more
Ireland didn't win the grand national
from 1975 until over 20 years later . That suited the powers that be in english racing . Tge last 10 10 years gave seen almost total domination by the Irish and it must be stopped . This is one of the ways they are going about it.
Isn't it amazing the way Pipes yard has gone from almost unbeatable 20 years ago to now being a run of ghe Mill stable that can hardly buy a a winner at a big course now...makes you wonder

@@denisoconnell1895 Martin Pipe generally was a numbers over quality trainer - yes he had some very good horses sprinkled in amongst a lot more of the average type horses that he rung the absolute maximum out of their limited talent to run up winning sequences and along with his innovative interval training methods and using blood testing he was a long way ahead of his contemporaries.
Why does the programme allow Mr Yates to filibuster through the really interesting topics about doping in racing. Stinks of a closed shop.

Should the BHA not be trying to attract more runners to all the other races rather than spending their time and effort on restricting entries to top handicap races. They are all paying the entry fees that make up prize money etc. Trainers/Owners would get round it anyway. Would some horses be temporarily transferred to other yards or satellite yards run by other trainers etc. e.g. could Gordon transfer some to Denise Foster?
Where are they from? Are they legal citizens?
The whole Tony Martin section in this was pointless … no conversation or opinions about it at all.. just boring Yeats givin the details that most people already know and then the topic wasn’t discussed by the panel… ridiculous and pointless

Totally agree pointless podcast when you leave DY bullshit the time away constantly. Nicholls is the star guest but he might have well have been making the tea and handing out the biscuits. No croissants ffs should have sent Yates on an errand and shoved one in his mouth on his return. First time tuning in in a while now i remember why.
This rumoured rule change is directed at one trainer , Gordon Elliot , disliked by the establishment because he worked his way up from nothing .

As someone who has worked in a bookiesfor years, Greyhound racing is on the way back, and horse racing will be left for dead soon..
really , no greyhound tracks left in London , no greyhound tracks in Scotland and Wales
@@josiekaposie5783 wales just got The Valley signed up officially to gbgb, wales only had flapping tracks before, now they have an sis contract. Oxford, Suffolk Downs reopened and are thriving.
Lifford in Ireland reopened by the tote and that's all I bet on now because it's great value on fc and tricasts. And rumour has it, they will reopen shawfield in Scotland.

Premier racing is a waste of time if the general public can't understand betting they must have something wrong with them .and lots of graded races with short priced favs will only put proper punters off .all we will end up with on TV between races is a load of sob stories . And boring horse welfare waffle.what we need on Saturday afternoons is more 16 runner high value handicaps if you want to increase betting or punters will just bet earlier or later in the day when that type of race is run
