I use many different types of fiber for my stitching. In this video I am using Raffia, which is actually a fiber from the Raffia Palm tree, which has the longest leaf in the plant kingdom. The fiber is made from membrane from the leaf. I also use waxed linen, and have used many types of embroidery thread, yarns, silk, etc.

Yes, cold water. The time depends on the variety but somewhere between 3 to 6 hours.
