This is the main thing i can't stand. I just sit there and say "k" and accept that they will die faster than me or i say nothing at all since im not interested in debating it with people that dont want to learn something. Besides spouting incorrect facts they think they know.

Yeah, I feel the same way. It's honestly quite depressing. I just sit there and watch them eat dead animal and then talk about how good it is and how they made it. I hate it because I'm also just sitting there watching them eat all this unhealthy food that they think is good for them, when really it's driving their health into the ground faster. It upsets me.

That’s what I have said to my family and my husband. I don’t need you to go vegan, but at least be my advocate. (Although, I would love it if they went vegan, but I’ve given up on them). I became vegan a little over a year ago and it has been an emotional roller coaster for me. I have felt isolated so I’m now going to get involved in AV and do some cubes, as my outlet. I figure that way, I’ll leave my friends and family out of it and just try to be a shining example.

Which leads me to think that, maybe people who can't handle the idea of Veganism, are actually more concerned about the pleasure or satisfaction that they get from eating, instead of the health benefits of either lifestyle.

It's such a heavy topic, and I found/find it very difficult to talk about the abuse of animals, our environment, people, etc. without getting emotional. Also, since veganism means so much to me and was a personal choice, talking about it is personal. It seems to hit harder than hearing what happens to chicks for eggs. I get responses like 'I never thought of that' or 'those are some really good points'. I really got to see some wheels turning the past month. It's interesting!

More skits, love it! On a serious note while my family has never had anything against me not eating animals, getting my parents to watch What The Health FINALLY I think pushed them over the fence to make a serious effort to get the animals out of their diet themselves :) I guess hearing 15 doctors and scientists say the same things I've always been telling them carried more weight, fair enough...

    • @VeganBrainFood
      @VeganBrainFood 6 років тому +11

+ Don Salieri, no they're atheist, they never doubted any of the points I made, and they're obsessed with their cats and know it's wrong to kill animals, more just stuck in the habits and living in the suburbs with no vegan restaurants, they don't know how to cook and always get take out. Whenever I'm there they always suggest we go downtown to vegan restaurants, and say "if this were near our house we could eat this every day". But What The Health was positively terrifying, especially for folks in older demographics, so I think that was the final push they needed to make a bigger effort.
The beautiful thing is that that movie had the same effect on cities and suburbs across the world and now the convenience and vegan groceries and restaurants are spreading. So if you think you've seen crazy growth in the movement over the last few years shit is about to go into overdrive. Worldwide invasion!

Most of my family think that being a vegetarian means I've been abducted by aliens at some point and my brain was transmuted into sludge. And I've been veg for almost 50 years. So the vegan thing is a lot harder to deal with than that. Family members and friends my age have replacement hips, knees, or gout, diabetes, etc. (The diabetes guy uses crystals to maintain his "health") My brother-in-law has fought off bowel cancer, with the help of surgery. One lady with a new hip thinks I'm "so lucky" that I haven't had any "problems". I said "It's not luck." I sometimes feel like an invisible guy from another galaxy. It's like they have locked-in syndrome but vote and drive a car anyway. And other stuff, like moving their mouths and vocal chords when they're being mind-bendingly delusional. But I say "Uh-huh" and "Oh" a lot. I'm an asshole.

I’ve been vegan for about 5 months, and I am really DREADING the upcoming holidays 😟. I’m not an “in-your-face” vegan, but I do wear vegan jewelry and an occasional T-shirt with a vegan slogan. I’m never the one to bring it up, but when others, including friends and family, come at me with cynicism, sarcasm and disrespect, I give it right back. I’ve been ostracized from family functions in the past because I have a sharp tongue, and they know I won’t just shut up and take it. It’s interesting how I’m always the one that’s expected to be respectful about thier carnism, but no one in my family seems to extend that same courtesy to me regarding my veganism.
I’m actually considering “coming down with some kind of bug“ this year. 😂
By they way, I really enjoyed the Jeopardy game at the Sonoma Veg Fest. Your sense of humor made the glitchy part of the game pretty funny.😄 It was a pleasure to meet you.

So, she made it with the non-vegan Worcestershire, and then got offended when I didn't try any. In my head I'm like "OMG I told you I couldn't eat that!"

I was thinking this two seconds before you said it. A couple of guys I know make jokes like, "vegetables are what food eats." This was funny the first time I heard it. I've even used it myselfa couple of times in an ironic sense. But when your friend's mind solidifies around that idea and they never move forward, you realize they don't respect you, and they would rather make the same joke at your expense again and again than actually--I don't know--BE your friend. That's your cue to flush.

Vegetarian people I've heard from have stressed the importance of varying the types of proteins you eat." The weight loss point is because the last year I have lost weight to become healthy, even before I went vegan. I've talked to other vegans & they gave me the advice to focus on what's important to me & on my health & eventually others would realise that you are doing better & very well on a vegan diet. Your "success", better health & happiness will make them realise that you are right & healthier. It took some time but I've been vegan for nearly 2 years now & it's been a while since my family last argumented with me about my diet/veganism. Regular blood tests, me being so conscious about my behaviour & the "disappearance" of several health issues (allergies, asthma, digestion & skin issues) have probably convinced them that I'm doing very well 😄 All the best to you & stay strong 💚

I hope my little microcosm of the world is a sign of what’s happening in other places. What I do notice and don’t like is there can be division and ridiculing that goes on between different vegans. To chance long term habits, we need to see a clear path forward. I think it’s more useful to share good vegan meals and advocate for a reduction in the consumption of animal based foods. When you realize there are a lot of options, veganism doesn’t seem such a terrible idea

Great video Mic! Watching your videos as well as Dr. Greger's, Earthling Ed's and doing a lot of research regarding the health benefits of plant based diets has allowed me to get my family and a few friends to go vegan! Thanks a lot!

Please do a video about veganism relating to vitiligo. My coworker was vegetarian and claims her doctors credit her vitiligo to her vegetarianism, however, I read that people say it "cured" their vitiligo.. HELP !

Mic! Hey I love your videos! I saw in one of them that you live in Iowa. That’s awesome! It seems like one of the hardest areas to be vegan! Socially that is...I grew up in this state and all of my family are farmers. It’s a tough subject to bring up. Or just have apart of your life with the type of family members I have. I’m from the cedar valley area. What about you?

I have never had a problem with family or friends. Co-workers are a different story. But they are actually coming around. The ones that gave me the hardest time are now sending me vegan recipes that they found on the web. Since my diabetes has pretty much gone away, A1C from 10 down to 5.8, only .2 from the non-diabetic range, and my cholesterol dropped from 211 down to 167. LDL from 162 to 108. LDL/HDL Ratio from 5.4 to 2.51. Some co-workers that are unhealthy are starting to ask more questions. Just lead by example and be humble. You will come out on top.

I'm fortunate that my family is cool with me being vegan. It helps that hey can SEE how extraordinarily healthy it can be, as I've reversed my cardiovascular disease dramatically after a heart attack 5 years ago (now running half marathons very regularly). One family member has gone (almost :) vegan on the strength of that! Ethics next, perhaps ?

My mom went vegan a month after me my stepdad went off dairy first cut back on meat and is now a few months later off animal products completely .. they are both body builders so it was an effort to convince them.. but I always present health benefits and ask what people have to lose in trying . I’m glad I have a vegan family now .. friends are not the same story

In my experience, people get more defensive than offended when they find out I'm on a plant-based diet. They immediately brake eye-contact and mumble something about needing to eat meat for their health. Bitch! I didn't ask you nor did I try to preach! You told me I looked great and I told you it was the plants, that is all.
