Lauliku lapsepõli - The Singer's Childhood,
an old folksong (regilaul) from Urvaste, Estonia, in the southern dialect of Estonian
    Imä vei nuku nurme pääle,
    ninnikese niidu pääle.
    Pand partsi ällutema,
    laanelinnu liigutama.
    Partsil olli pal'lu sõnu,
    laanelinnul pal'lu laule.
    Sõsar kost sa sõna saie,
    lats kost sa laulu löuse?
    Sõna põimi põrmandusta,
    laulu löuse lastikusta.
    Translation:
Mother carried the baby out to the field,
The flowerbud out onto the meadow.
She had the duck rock the cradle,
She had the forest bird swing it.
The duck had so many words,
And the forest bird so many songs.
Sister, where did you get your words,
Child, where did you find your songs?
Harvested the words from the floor,
Found the songs among the shavings.
