Xenoblade 2 Is the Best One, Actually

- The Xenoblade Chronicles series consists of some of my favorite games of all time. And, despite being the most controversial title in the series, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has always been the one I loved the most. In today's video, I share why I think that, despite its flaws, Xenoblade 2 is the most meaningful experience in the entire trilogy.

Yeah man Zenoblade 2 was the game that felt the most human and it made me think about stuff for months or years after becouse of its dialogue writing and honestly music.
I once saw a comment that said "Xenoblade 2 would be one of the worst games of all time if it weren't actually secretly the best game of all time" and given how ridiculously hard I bounced off it at first before coming back and loving it, I think that's accurate. Fantastic game but you do need to put in a little extra love to get to that point (which for me was the one-two of unlocking chain attacks and Mythra showing up)
In a world where stuff like Big Riggs and Superman 64 exists, I hesitate to call it the worst even for all the little issues it has, but that's a very nice and succinct way to put it. The general sentiment I 100% agree with XD
I actually think xenoblade 2 has the most mature story in the series, even more than 3 - it’s just more subtle about some of its darker/more philosophical elements. Things like the suggestion of a blade sex trade being in existence, how it’s likened to slavery, Mythra having PTSD and depression from Torna, and the like. It’s also the story with the most moving parts in the series, the most differing parties with contrasting goals and ideals. And I love it for that. It had my favourite story AND fictional world not just in the series but in fiction - incredible character backstories, incredible world building with THE most unique and well thought out setting I’ve ever experienced, incredible, thought provoking lore… I could go on. The weird, out of place feeling anime moments so slightly mar it near the beginning but man. It’s still a masterpiece of a story and you can’t change my mind on that. Thanks for this great video!
Another thing I ADORE about 2s story is how it gradually transforms from a fairly typical fantasy narrative in the beginning to hard, full sci fi in the end, things like going inside the world tree for the first time and discovering that it’s actually a giant space elevator on the inside. Insanely fucking cool
How it connects with the first game specifically is yet another reason I view this story as a masterpiece. Parallel universes aren’t exactly an original concept but 2 and 1 do it in such a brilliantly fresh way with the trinity processor, ontos being Alvis, klaus being zanza,BRO it’s SO PEAK
I mean bro like what other piece of media has effortlessly delivered a scene like the ending of Torna that had that much weight behind it and hit you so hard? For me it’s unmatched (other than maybe xeno 3 chapter 5 😂) and yet NOBODY talks about how amazing these narratives are!
Ok I’m done 😂
The way I think of it is this.
Xenoblade 3 is a story you can summarise in one sentence. Two nations manipulated to fight for eternity to give a hidden group orchestrating the war immortality from their life force.
Xenoblade 1, maybe a short paragraph with a few sentences.
Xenoblade 2, to even summarise its story you need at least a few paragraphs.
2 is my favorite of the three for every reason you have stated. I love 3 and like 1. The story of 1 blew me away when I first played it, but the gameplay drags it down for me a lot, and because I know the story, it is hard for me to revisit. Also, 2 has Zeke. Von. Genbu! BRINGER OF CHAOS and cannot be topped
So true, homie
i need to replay this game cause tbh i barely remember the story. i just remember the beginning of it leaving me with a sour taste throughout the rest of the game. When Myhtra was introduced is when i feel the game became more interesting to me tbh. I remember not liking Rex as a character.
I did not finish the game one day i just stop playing and didn't finish it. I know i was around the end cause the game gave me the choice between Mythra and Pyrah (which i personally hate and in XC3 when you find out that they became separate people which i don't know how to feel about it). Part of me thinks is that subconsciously i did not want to finish it cause i did not enjoy it.
Also the gacha system is a personal hell to me. i know that its not meant to be collect them all but im not wired that way. i did get almost all the important blades but 1(which tortured me). This is one of the biggest walls for me to try a replaying it tbh.
Gameplay wise. I only learn how the game should be played when i was past halfway and thats because i saw a video on it cause man the tutorials in this game suck ass
When it comes to character designs they are very hit or miss for me personally but the biggest misses to me was Pyrah's design. My problem isnt that its revealing its that imo ugly and doesn't match Pyrah as a character. I dont have a problem revealing outfits but i do have a problem when they are trying to shove a characters boobs/ass at your face constantly.
Anyways thanks for the vid. it might motivate me more to replay the game but still not sure yet since there are other games i want to play.
XC2. Best characters, best villian, best music. Absolutely killer game you are correct.
On the desert in 3, it actually gave me the biggest "wtf" in the game once I realised exactly what it was. And exactly where Colony 30 was located.
Currently playing the second one after ignoring it for years, and I can’t put it down. Arguably the most addicting game play loop in the entire series
The more I play, the more I love this game. The story and gameplay are so deep.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is my favorite game of the series ❤.
Honestly, I agree with almost every point here. I absolutely love the xenoblade franchise, but 2 feels like it perfected their ambitions in storytelling, characters, worldbuilding and especially music. 3 was very good but 2 just gave me a grander vibe that felt more immersive. Alrest was real, whereas Aionios wasn't (which I get it the point, and xenoblade 3 is amazing in exploring its themes) but it doesn't mean it's necessarily cooler.
XC2 has something special tbh, if poppy dont bring a tear to your eye, i dont know man. Great video. XC3 has less lows but is kinda flat on its highs sadly

For having asked the questions about sexualisation to few online friends who were on this gender spectrum first they aren't necessarily agree. They all shared meme ob Instagram related to xenoblade so they were really into it.
First the just didn't care because it was something she saw in a lot of jrpg and anime and since male character were always hot and not fat it was stupid to critise one way.
The second and third were agree with your take on this cutscene. The design was fanservice intentionality or not (the skin was to show incompleteness because Pyra has clothes were Mythra don't and the opposit unless its some specific part) and despite loving the Mythra character they hated the design and the cutscene in the bed.
Yeah I always use mass melee Mythra its a better design for more crit rate.
Nothing will top like that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 hype!
I loved to hear you gush about XB2. I agree with most of your points. The game is unpolished in some areas but these can be easily fixed in a definitive edition remaster. The core gameplay, story, world and character writing is peak.
Omg I know you from Twitter!!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the vid!
@@ashster_sunshine I hope that means you are part of the Nia army then 👀
Oh yeah, I tend to avoid the NSFW stuff, and I'm not a big waifu culture guy in general, but I love the art you retweet! It's some cute stuff! Also, Nia's probably my fav girl from base XC2
I also value the feeling/ experience a game gives me over "objective" value of the package
2 just hits so hard, I dont care about its flaws (tho a remaster can definitely fix them :P)
i love Xenoblade 2 this my fav rpg of all time next to Xenoblade Chronicles 3 i love the characters and story and the amazing ending of this game i know back in 2018 my 1st playthrough of xc2 i know this game is going be peak i was right and i think the xc2 main cast and xc3 main cast are tie of my fav cast of Xenoblade Chronicles series
I like 1 and 3 but I only cry in 2 and if you dont cry at the end you are dead inside.
Same....... Same.
The combat system of xenoblade 3 felt a little draining, because you had to play 6 characters as one. Still greast combat system
Xenoblade 2 is a flawed masterpiece. It has the most glaring and unexcusable issues of the series (terrible tutorials, annoying field skills, the gacha system, kinda weak first chapters...), but what it does well is so good. If you manage to get past the opening hours it pays off so much it outweights most of its flaws.
Xenoblade 2...Gacha done right. It costs me no real money to Gacha roll and makes every game replay unique.
Fully agree, XC2 is the best one. 3 was a big step back
xenoblade 2is the best game of all time (imo)
Played it loved it I don't think it's the best but I def think it's my favorite!
I sort of agree, actually. The title is more of an extrapolation from the fact that is my favorite haha
If you wanna talk objectively, 3 is probably the best overall
@ashster_sunshine yeah I also think it's 3 objectively but honestly asking me which I think is the best in the trilogy I would have so much trouble answering cause I think they're all amazing!
Even so xenoblade 2 still stands as my fav for story, characters, music, and especially gameplay. Also ik it's def bias but it's has ELMA that already makes it cool as heck to me!!
This is my favorite game of all time. This game so so fantastic bro❤
I recent bought one copy because it seems to be disappearing from the stores. Despite of all the technic issues in handheld mode, it is a great game. About the sexualization of the characters, I think it is unnecessary but as a Japanese rpg it's "acceptable". If you don't like anime, I think it is almost impossible to play though.
Yeah, that's probably true. If the anime stuff isn't your thing, you'd probably not vibe with the game. Also yeah, I completely forgot to mention how much trouble this game has running on portable mode! That's right, though it personally doesn't bother me that much.
Heyo, bit of advice from an admitedly very spoiled UA-cam viewer: try lowering your highs in an equalizer. I think it'll let your voice come in clearer without being louder (i think it might just be something with the room, tiles are probably reflecing a lot of highs and such)
Defs agree Xenoblade 2's vibe and story being just that bit more enjoyable over the other 3 (im counting X here :P), but i think hands down i like its gameplay the best. The enveloping and looping process of stacking 1, 2, 3s together with your teammates made me feel the most "power of friendship" in any of the core battle systems. And all of that building to a crazy chain attack where you break like 6 orbs, every battle just had a great cadence to ir and the different blades and abilities kept it really varried too
Heeey! Thanks! Yeah, I think we're pretty much on the same page as far as Xenoblade 2 goes, yeah. I'd argue 3's gameplay is overall better though. While 2's combat specifically is pretty much on par with 3 for me (if not above it), I feel like-- due to all the little issues I pointed out in the video-- 3's overall gameplay flows a lot better.
Also it's funny that you mentioned the audio. Historically, I've always had trouble with volume mixing and making everything sound ok in my videos, and I've been slowly working on fixing it (believe me, it a lot better than it used to). And specifically, just yesterday I was tinkering with an equalizer for a smaller video I'm working on. Crazy how things work out sometimes haha.
Thanks again! 👍🔥
I thought I was a xenoblade fan. It’s turns out I’m a xenoblade 2 fan.
1 is a history of revenge so after that is finish the character arcs become are weak, 2 is a hero's journey the oldest and most troupy story in the world and also the one people never stop to love since all the characters grow. there personal grow are tie to the plot itself only mentor character that have found themselves and what is there purpose like zeke and morang get less character development.
I feel monolithsoft and fromsoftware are The best Game creators today
I still gotta play Fromsoftware's stuff, actually. I was looking into Elden Ring. Would you say it's a good starting-ofd point?
@@ashster_sunshine i didnt played fromsoftware games but My brother did.
Elden ring or dark souls remastered could be a good start point. But not sekiro
Yes, YES IT IS
No
Ah yes, a masterpiece
