Rewrite is technically that universe's sonic the hedgehog that was taken over by a godlike entity that was created(by accident)by a priest spreading fake news about God and all by all the followers get killed or something and they're souls got trapped in the game by the entity and after he killed the followers and the priest, the ended up wanting to become God of the digital world so he killed tails, knuckles and Eggman to get there souls which are trapped in the red rings he wears on his arms and left leg, and the red rings are kinda like power ups or like the opposite of the rings shadow wears so every ring makes him far stronger with each ring he gets from murder
