  • Welcome to this woodturning project! Due to personal reasons I couldn't post any videos for a month, now I have a new project for you, making a night lamp out of wood, shavings and some resin. This is my second time using, this kind of shavings. The last project, where i made a flower pot, was very pretty (to me), so i decided to do it again.
I hope you enjoy the video. And hopefully I will be able to post more regularly.

It looks a bit like if an acorn were a modern lamp. And when it’s turned on it looks like those scientific filtered sun pictures.
I love the visual texture of the spalting in the bottom and the shavings/resin in the top. It was funny how you drilled the dowels through a pencil sharpener, and it gave such a neat result. Yay woodturning

this is by far the best outcome that i’ve seen using this technique. the larger shavings really make a big difference and look much better than the smaller shavings i’ve seen used in the past. the patterns that emerge once lit are really unique and the color is incredible as well. good stuff as always! would love to see another project using this method in the future

❤😢 PLEASE raise the Vertical Blade guide to 1/2" above the work piece! RSVP for your scroll saw!
Also, that band is too fine for that thickness of wood. Use AC/DC or Molly Hatchet for that thickness of wood.

What kind of material are you using to make your mold and where did you get it? I can't find a good plastic to make forms for resin pouring.

Awesome work! Can you tell me what tool you had to cut down the dowel rod into shavings? It looked like a pencil sharpener.

⚠️😬 - good thing the toque of your drill didn’t bust the sharpener out of the lid of the shavings pot, I would have removed the sharpener from the lid and clamped it into a vice

    • @JamesCouch777

I have to agree, mostly but I still use it sometimes when I have a piece that would otherwise be impossible to turn. It has it's place but it is a bit overdone.

😡👎PLEASE lower the Vertical Blade guide to 1/4" above the work piece! RTFM for your band saw!
Also, that band is too coarse for that thickness of wood. Use more teeth per inch on thin wood.
"TPI is measured from gullet to gullet, not tooth tip to tooth tip - this is known as pitch. The general rule of thumb is: For wood and soft materials aim for 3 - 6 teeth in the workpiece. For metals and harder materials aim for 6 - 24 teeth in the workpiece."
