It's so exciting! My buddy just cleared Salida and I'm on pins and needles.. watching his weather, checking his tracker, looking at terrain ahead... So funny how engaging this racing is from so far away.
**F1's got nothing on mid-pack TD watching.
This has been a real education, Josh. Top Job.

I'm gonna miss these when you go racing, it's a morning ritual along with the coffee here in the Southern Rockies.

Thanks for continuing these. I'm sure they started as a bit of a lark, but you have improved every single day and have done a terrific job. I had a thought about how to add a bit of extra context and interest over the next few days - a lot of riders tie themselves to a cause that you could give a15 second mention of. I'm sure they would appreciate it.
    Looking forward to more.
    Thanks

If you look at the high-resolution photos on that finishing straight on @BikePacking, you can see Ulrich’s rear tire is soft! Amazingly durable!

THANK YOU for the best coverage to come to bikepacking yet, and indeed among any cycling discipline! Looking forward to your race, and the Continental Divide coverage! Will you be covering the Silk Road Mountain Race in August? We were at the finish line last year in Bishkek for some of the riders, absolutely incredible, and had a family member from Kazakhstan come in 17th overall, I believe 12th in solo men.

Thanks for all your coverage, Josh. Minor nitpicking question: someone noticed that Justinas actually missed a short section (maybe 1mi?) just before entering Hartsel, CO. The deviation is quite clear on his tracker. I'm curious - if that had been Ulrich do you think there would have been any grounds for an asterisk? How much deviation can be "forgiven" in an event like this? I know some people are quite particular about following "the rules" (the few rules that there are). Anyway, was fun to watch all your updates. I'd agree that the record certainly appears breakable if all the conditions go the right way. Maybe that will be you next year :-).

Ulrich should sell that rear tyre for some charitable cause. Intense bidding I think!

  • @daveslaughter8290

Pony express riders used to change mounts every 10 miles. One wonders whether some of the contestants this year would have been better off just getting a new bike in steamboat springs, with all the mechanical issues they've had. Assuming money was no object of course, and the rules permitted. Interesting race this year. Thanks.

What does the star next to the name mean? It is in the rider's "flag".
