      It is not just pure variance. They have already admitted to "hand smoothing" land draw algorithm and match making power level checks shenanigans. In draft (and non-ranked Play) almost always you'll get a mirror match first game or two with very similar cards to yours or being matched against a deck that's good against you. Other patterns are also apparent to anyone playing Arena - like that the likelihood of getting cards you already have on hand is higher (i.e. you'd draw 3 copies of most cards you have on hand but don't really see other cards that much). Top decking right removal (even for indestructible creatures, etc.) happens super often. Games on Arena feel orchestrated!

    I felt the pain in this one. Got mana-flooded in 3/3 of my BO3 Arena Day 1 Sealed match (with 16 lands). Few days earlier, I had the most insane flood I’ve ever seen, drawing 15/16 lands in the top 25 cards of my library, including 9 straight to finish the game.
    I respect Nummy’s ability to shrug off bad RNG, but sometimes it’s too much.

      I have the feeling since bloomburrow the shuffler is way worse... manascrewd every 3-4 games =instaloss. If lost 3 drafts 0-3 to 2-3 b3cause of it (out of 6 drafts). Look at the numbers of lands played by monored decls in ladder. They are gone up from 17-18 lands prepatch to 20-22 with the same or even lower curve... something is off.

The fact you're drafting with people who you're not playing against is insane, I watched a match where this guys opponent had 2 rottenmouth vipers, and like 2 or 3 other mythics in Golgari.

      A lot of times, late at night, a draft pod worth of people will get on together on discord and screen share with each other while they draft, they will hit the join button all at the same time and try to get in on the same draft. Then, if they confirm they are in together they will have perfect knowledge of all the packs going around and build decks that way.
      Then they will play at earlier times to not only avoid playing each other but their Uber deck will have essentially nothing blocking them.

    flood vs screw games are some of the worst magic has to offer. you sit there seeing your opponent doing nothing/only playing cheap cards with an entire hand full of spells, you keep drawing nothing but lands, being unable to pressure them, and you just know the second they hit their next 1-2 land drops you're cooked.

    First of all, just wanted to say I really feel your pain here. That flood has happened to me countless times and I wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy. Mad respect for keeping together despite all of these tilters.
    One of your Match 1 Game 2 plays were confusing to me. When you played Greenshell, would it not be better to play the land first? Then you could not only Surveil with Glarb (to set up a land on the top), but then also flicker Glarb to basically Draw 2. I could definitely be wrong here for sure, but it seemed like you'd get more value this way.

    • @Iam_Stu
      @Iam_Stu 5 місяців тому

      also seemed strange in that game when he played the clifftop lookout. Knowing there was a land on top there was a choice to let the greenshell trigger first and it would have put that land in, then another land from the lookout, that would have been 10 land to turn on the +2/+2. Game 1 of that match was also a really sketchy keep on the first hand, swamp+green village couldn't play any of the 5 other cards in hand.

    • @finnTekken
      @finnTekken 5 місяців тому +2

      its not, especially not in BO1 , but still it happens sometimes. in BO1 the game will decide the more balanced hand out of 2 starting hands, in Bo3 that is not the case. So you should almost always get a descent starting hand, which limits the impact of fload, screw in the fist turns, IN BO1. At least that was told to me , or i watched it in a video, it seems true, have not confirmed it.

    That first hand keep seems crazy to me haha. Maybe im missing something, but surely keeping a hand that has only 2 lands and 0 playable spells is a recipe for disaster? Obviously you drew fairly well, so perhaps you knew the odds better than me, but it seems super risky to me.

    • @Iam_Stu
      @Iam_Stu 5 місяців тому

      It was a pretty sketchy keep. That being said it was slightly better than 50/50 that he'd either hit a land or something playable each draw. 7 islands, 7 forests, Fountainport Bell, 2 x Three Tree Mascot. 17 hits out of 33 cards. So it's not the absolute worst on the draw. On the play you'd definitely throw it away.

    In match 1 game 3, when opponent hit land 5 then played guardmouse, you chose not to counter it with spellgyre, but also chose not to surveil 2 draw 2. Then we hit Clement, get to replay prophet and hit a land. Would it not have been worth it to have fired off the surveil+draw end of turn? Obviously hindsight makes it clear, but it feels like not countering their 4 drop AND not drawing cant have been right to me. Would have got to have kept clement, pitched the land, drawn clement+1, then draw step draw + prophet draw. 3 draws that were not that island.

      So you think that wizards just hates nummy and love making him draw all lands? Or they really like that random dude he was playing against so that his opponents draw all lands?
      Or wotc just hates everyone and likes to screw everyone equally?
      For your lawsuit to not get thrown out instantly you are going to at least show how wotc benefits from having players flood out, so what’s the reason?

    • @joerogers4860
      @joerogers4860 5 місяців тому

      Entry into drafts takes money, if the flood/screw does exactly what it does. Or the all to present time gate in games these days. So your options, if you want to play, are to spend $$$ or grind at a grueling pace. And guess which side human psychology leans towards? There's definitely a monetary incentive to keep the shuffler from actually shuffling. The good news, they aren't picking on anyone in specific. Just everyone's wallet.

      @@finnTekken the shuffler has hand smoothing which is supposed to ensure you get lands in your opening hand I believe. It has also been said that if you have too high of a win percentage, the game changes the draws in your opponent’s favor. The second one could just be a hypothesis. But the shuffler definitely doesn’t just do a series of shuffles and move on

      @@JohnSmith-ul2ce the shuffler has hand smoothing in best of 1 . And i dont even know if that has been officially confirmed, but it seems obvious, you never(?) get 7 lands , 7 spells in best of 1. this wasnt best of 1 tho, secondly, you second statement, i simply would like a source, an official statement from wizards/arena that this is the case, thats all. But you already said its hypothetical . I am just saying apart from best of 1 picking between two hands to give you the more balanced hand, we have absolutely no proof for anything else. And my theory is people just play many more games online back to back then they would be able to in paper and you simply see those screws, floods, more often and remember them selectively. Thats my theory. And i strongly believe that, based on the simply fact, that IF YOU COULD prove something like that and it isn’t in the TOS / EuLA of the game, you could sue this company + hasbro into oblivion. And we had bugs and exploits and even hacks(?) of arens, so if anything like that is going on, someone would have been able to prove thatbin 5 years.
