No, SHINee is a 4 member group who will always be a 5 member group. The reason why you only saw Minho, Taemin and Key in that clip was because Onew, SHINee's leader, is currently on hiatus for health reasons. Although Onew WAS involved in their "The Feeling" and "Hard" MVs as part of their comeback a few months ago and he is part of all the songs on SHINee's Hard album. Plus, Onew has already announce he will have a solo comeback early next year and SHINee will be back promoting as all 4 of them soon too. Onew has not left the group or gone anywhere. They have actually just all renewed their contracts and Key has made it clear that if they ever decide to leave SM or the group they will do it together. SHINee will always be a complete group who has vowed to continue as a group for as long as possible. They are one of the most tight-knit groups in the Kpop industry. As Taemin mentioned, the members are very important to him and they all agree that SHINee as a group comes first before anything else because their bond as a group is more important to them then anything they do solo.

hi! thank you for your reaction :)
SHINee is still a 4 member group (5 at heart), the leader Jinki didn't participate in the latest promotion due to health reasons, he took a break from all activities
and yes, Taemin was talking about gender neutral image in his music/videos! he started exploring this style since Move in 2017, at that time he got much more creative freedom from his agency, and actually chose Move and the concept himself, the agency wanted some powerful ballad song instead. when he was younger he was called pretty (in a feminine way) a lot, the agency made him wear long hair, and he didn't like it at all, he wanted to look manly. he struggled with the perception of himself a lot, also because he debuted at a very young age (at 14), and people always had this image of him as cute, shy maknae, even when he was older. he wanted people to take him seriously. in his debut album there is a song called 'Pretty boy', written for him by Jonghyun, it's about gender roles and how he's still a man even if he looks delicate and is sensitive. but i guess with age he embraced this androgynous side of himself and decided to explore it instead of rejecting
i think Taemin was a bit shy and too polite here but it's understandable because him and Yoongi didn't know each other and Taemin is very introverted, but with close friends and his members he becomes a dork (you could see that a bit when Jimin appeared, he was much more relaxed)
honestly i can see him and Yoongi becoming friends, maybe not close ones but still

Just to clarify something for those who might be wondering, in the video, it said Taemin made his debut at 16, but that's his Korean age. In international age, he made his debut when he was 14, as the comment above me mentioned.

We are happy to do it! We are still new to Taemin (and SHINee, in general!), so it was fun to watch this interview and really get to know him a little better.
Thank you for the clarification on the number of members in the group. We appreciate it so much when fans of the groups we are getting familiar with fill in the gaps in our missing knowledge. 😘
Taemin did appear polite and reserved when speaking to Yoongi, we agree. And we agree with Yoongi when he stated that he might be intimidating to others because he looks/seems fierce. His music - particularly as Agust D - can be quite fierce.
And we agree that he did seem to relax when Jimin appeared! Jimin is one of our favorites, and one of the things we admire so much about him is how he always makes everyone feel comfortable. Jimin has frequently mentioned his admiration of Taemin, and it was a real treat to see that respect in "real" time.
We can't wait to see if Taemin and Yoongi DO become closer 😆

It says SUGA finally meet TAEMIN b/c all the times that they’ve been in the industry, I don’t think they’ve ever meant before besides what they have heard from JIMIN. *Age-wise SUGA is older but group-wise TAEMIN is the Senior Maknae along with many other Senior Maknaes before SUGA debut even they’re both 1993.*

It was very interesting to see the difference between the two 93ers, with Taemin being the youngest and Suga being one of the oldest in their respective groups.

Yes, nothing about Taemin's "Move" choreography is simple. Most dancers will tell you that the only person that can ever pull of the choreography the way Taemin did it is Taemin, no matter how good of a dancer someone is, no one is as sharp or intricate as he is. This dance is VERY difficult to pull off, which is why everyone is so impressed.
It's said that if Taemin's dance looks easy then it's actually really difficult and if it looks extremely difficult then it's even harder than you imagine. No one moves the way he does and even his backup dancers struggle to keep up with him. Choreographers say he is constantly asking them to make the choreography more difficult and he is never satisfied until the difficulty level is off the charts.
As Taemin has said, there has never been anything that has come easy to him and he has only gotten to where he is today because he has worked hard to accomplish everything. He is constantly pushing himself to become the best of the best in everything he does. Taemin has said, he has worked his entire career to create a style of dance that is unlike anything in the Kpop industry. And I would argue that that now extends to the entire industry of dance.
Prior to becoming a trainee at the age of 11, Taemin had no formal dance training. He started out as a self-taught popper and locker who learned to dance by copying dancers on TV, and, even then, as a trainee it was clear his skills as a dancer went far beyond the average dancer. He said he thought dancers like Kpop solo artist Bi Rain and Michael Jackson were cool, so he would try and copy their moves. He debuted as the main dancer of SHINee, so he had about 3 years of training as a dancer once he became a trainee.
Therefore, most of what you see is just natural talent and an unbelievable amount of dedication. Taemin has put in a lot of effort to become the magnificent and unique performer and person that we know him as today. But there really is no one that pushes him or holds him to a higher standard than himself. He has said that he really has never taken a true vacation since he was a trainee and he doesn't know what to do if he isn't constantly working and training.
As mentioned, when Taemin debuted as a member of SHINee way back in 2008, he didn't have a whole lot of lines in their songs. People even used to make fun of Taemin's singing and they would say that he was tone deaf and couldn't sing. However, it's sort of a misconception that Taemin "couldn't sing." it wasn't that he couldn't sing, it was just that he debuted when he was so young -- he was only 14 years old -- that his voice hadn't really developed yet and he didn't really have a good grasp of how to use his voice and produce the sounds he wanted with it. So, in the beginning, when he sang, he was often flat or his voice cracked or he was off key or out of tune, etc.
And because he was being compared to the other members of SHINee who are all 2 to 4 years older than him, and the other members had such phenomenal voices to start out with, it really made Taemin sound like he was lacking. (SHINee are considered THE premier vocal group that everyone dreams of being as good as.) That's why in SHINee's first few songs he only has a few lines, and most of the time he was just given big solo dance breaks to fill the stage at his parts in the song.
However, if he was really tone deaf, he never would have become an SM Idol trainee -- SM would have put him on the dance track and probably steered him toward becoming a backup dancer -- and he definitely would have never become the amazing singer that he is today. As you probably know, someone who is truly tone deaf is physically unable to hear the difference in the notes and is unable to carry a tune.
But Taemin really wanted to prove to everyone that he wasn't just a dancer, so he spent a lot of extra time concentrating on vocal lessons and the other SHINee members -- especially Onew and Jonghyun (two of the best vocalists in the industry) -- spent some serious time coaching and mentoring him until he learned what it took to match their vocal range and to use his voice. (For the first year or more after SHINee's debut Taemin spent hours in vocal lessons and he would push himself every day until his nose would bleed because he was so tired and worn out, etc. He practically lived in the training rooms at SM Entertainment.)
The ONLY thing the members of SHINee are not good at is lip syncing, so Taemin, and all the members of SHINee, have specifically trained since their debut, to build stamina and endurance, in order to be able to sing live for 3+ hours straight in concert, all while performing these intense choreographies and still sound flawless. When you watch a live performance, you may be shocked because Taemin and SHINee sound so perfect live even though they are dancing so intensely, but that is why they are so highly respected by everyone.
It's a running joke between fans and the members that you can tell when SHINee are lip syncing because they are so bad at it, that is why they avoid it at all costs. Therefore, when you hear SHINee sing, 95% of the time it will be live.
Yes, over the years they have become better at lip syncing than they used to be, but now they have gained the reputation as the group that always sings live, so unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, what you will hear is live vocals.
Other Idols and audio sound technicians, etc. who have witnessed the SHINee members performing live are always blown away, because in the parts of the song where most singers would take a break and rely on the backing track vocals to cover their voices so they can catch their breath and recover, this is where the SHINee members actually ramp it up and become their most powerful.
Therefore, in Taemin's live performance you will discover that he sounds even better than in the recorded version, all while dancing full out. What makes SHINee so great is that even if they are singing a cappella while performing this high energy choreography, they sound just as amazing. That's why, even as rookies, senior artists would stop what they were doing to watch SHINee's rehearsals on music programs because SHINee's vocal talent is that impressive.
When SHINee debuted, they were the first group to demonstrate how it was possible to sing live while performing complex choreography and still maintain stable vocals. Before SHINee, the thought within the industry was that it wasn't possible to sing live and also perform high intensity choreography at the same time. At that time, most groups would either sing live and have simple choreography, or they would have crazy cool choreography, but lip sync to their recorded vocals. SHINee completely changed the Kpop industry and upped the standard of what it meant to be an idol singer.
Taemin -- and SHINee -- live is unmatched. It's literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard that all other groups strive to reach, and SHINee are the vocalists that all other artists try to emulate.
It is also a well known fact among long time fans, that for most of SHINee's career Taemin struggled with being an introvert and he often never spoke in interviews and on variety shows unless spoken to. He would let the other members carry the conversation. The members often talk about how they would have to prompt him to get him to speak. He is also known for telling a story or answering a question in an interview and half way through the story, he would stop speaking and just go quiet again. The other members often had to fill in the blanks for him and nudge him to get him to focus and keep on talking.
It wasn't until around 2014 when Taemin had his solo debut and he had to start doing promotions and interviews by himself that he really forced himself to change and to come out of his shell. This was also part of the reason why Taemin struggled with self-image issues, where he worried about the fact that people always saw him as weak and helpless and often only knew him for his looks. This is the reason why Jonghyun wrote "Pretty Boy" for Taemin because Jonghyun wished the public would be able to see and understand the Taemin, he knew as a strong and masculine guy, and to stop looking at him as just a fragile "pretty boy." (BTW, "Petty Boy" is a B-side track on Taemin's solo debut album Ace and it features Kai from EXO, who is Taemin's best friend since their trainee days, as the rapper in the song. Taemin and Kai even performed the song together as part of Taemin's solo debut promotions.)
This is part of the duality that is Taemin's personality. When not on stage performing, Taemin is a completely different person, and the Taemin you see when he is just hanging out with his members, isn't necessarily what he shows to the general public.
But when Taemin is with the other members of SHINee he often still reverts back to being the baby of the group and just lets the rest of the members take on the responsibility of carrying the conversations in interviews, etc. It is not uncommon to see Taemin off in his own little world during interviews, he even still does it as a member of SuperM. Taemin will always have that maknae mindset no matter who he is with. Which is one of the reasons he turned down the role as the leader of SuperM, because he is much more comfortable as the maknae and didn't feel prepared for the leader role, etc.
But that's what makes him even more loveable, because no matter how famous he gets or how many admirers he has, he never loses himself or tries to be something different than his authentic self.

This was a cute interview, and I appreciate how thoughtful Suga was with his questions! About the gender less part, Taemin was styled more boyish for this interview but he mixes feminine and masculine styles in his MVs. He does have big lips, rounder eyes, and full cheeks along with a thin frame so the androgynous style really works well for him. But it was a sore spot for many years after he debuted because he was made to cross dress a lot and told he looks pretty like a girl. It’s nice to see him taking control of that, if that makes sense?

When Taemin is talking about being 16 and 20 that is in Korean age. So, just so you know, what he was really saying was that when he debuted at 14 he figured by the time he was 18 he would be an adult and have a big change in who he was and in his career, etc. He began his solo career with his debut single "Danger" in 2014 when he was 21 years old.
Nothing is sad about SHINee's "Everybody" performance at the Tokyo Dome. It's Iconic. It should be viewed as amazing and groundbreaking, not sad. Please live in the moment when you watch SHINee and not dwell on the fact that what happened years later was sad. That is not what SHINee and Jonghyun should be remembered for.
The way to honor Jonghyun's memory is to watch him in everything he did throughout his career and to react to his music and listen to his and SHINee's songs. Honor his legacy and don't reduce Jonghyun and SHINee's life to only this one brief moment in a long and trailblazing career.
It's OK if it makes us a little emotional sometimes, but the way to get to know Jonghyun and SHINee better is to really spend some time getting to know them as the amazing performers that they are. All Jonghyun ever wanted was to make people happy through his work and to influence the world with his songs and lyrics. So, honor him by discovering what an amazing person he was and seeing exactly what he wanted people to remember him for.
Yes, it's sad, but you don't necessarily have to make it that way if you just appreciate his work for what it is and live in the moment. Jonghyun's final words to the world were "Tell me I did Well." And that is what we fans try to do.
By continuing to watch and listen to Jonghyun and SHINee's music and appreciating the hundreds of clips we are lucky enough to have with SHINee as a group of 5, we are showing Jonghyun that, yes indeed, you did well and your life will forever be meaningful to thousands of people. You will never be forgotten Jonghyun, you did well.
Please, stop reacting as if "it's so sad" or as if the members must be mourning every time they think about him because that is NOT what they do. The members have said they hate the fact that people make them feel like they can't talk about Jonghyun or there is something wrong with remembering him and all the good times they had together. Memories and performances of 5HINee and Jonghyun as a solo artist are what we fans cherish the most and we love to watch their old performances. It's actually a happy memory and it makes us happy when we watch these videos.
When people who have only just got to know the group, like you, say "aww that's so sad" it's like telling someone who just had a family member die that "you must be so sad" because they died, when we are really trying to remember him for all the good things he has done and all the great memories we have. I think you might have the misconception that everything to do with Jonghyun must be "so sad," but that's not how we see it at all. Which is why one of Taemin's best memories is of their first Tokyo Dome performances because it was a great memory for ALL 5 of them. We are fortunate to have known Jonghyun and to have all the great contributions he has made to the world, which should be celebrated not mourned.

Thanks for your feedback about honoring Jonghyun through reacting to his amazing works. That being said, it's always good to remember that there is not a right or wrong way to process grief. For some Shawols, it is still really difficult to see reactions to their beloved Jonghyun. And that's okay; not everyone processes grief in the same way. Here at Hallyu Reviews, we try to be mindful and respectful of everyone on our journey. And sometimes, that means allowing everyone to feel whatever feelings they may be feeling. We have not forgotten about Jonghyun, we promise! We just ask that you give us grace during this emotional leg of our journey. ❤‍🩹

@@hallyureviewsus I agree, but saying "aww that is so sad" just because you saw him appear in one brief clip, which was supposed to be a good memory of something that was a very happy moment, just downplays the point of the clip and doesn't honor the spirit of what Taemin was intending when he mentioned the event. He wasn't wanting to create a moment of sadness, but he was remembering a joyful moment. Which means we should also try and remember that just because Jonghyun is no longer here, that that does not mean that just because we see him in a clip that it is a sad memory or moment.

I know you were joking but you really SHOULD take Taemin's advice. He is a senior artist who has a LOT of experience. Plus, all of Taemin's songs and albums have deep meaning and are full of GREAT advice.
For example, "Advice" is a continuation of the themes within Taemin's previous Never Gonna Dance Again album trilogy -- "2 Kids," "Criminal" and "Idea." With "Criminal" and "Idea," Taemin talks about being involved in a toxic relationship -- not necessarily a romantic relationship, but a metaphor for his relationship with fame -- in which he agrees to be manipulated almost to the point of being destroyed in order to become the artist we see today. But, in the end of "Idea," we see him become free from the box everyone wants to put him in and he comes to terms with his role as an idol. He has now formed his own "Idea" about himself and what it means to be an idol, etc.
As Taemin explained during his VLive event for "Advice" -- which came out in 2021 right before Taemin enlisted in military and went on hiatus for the next 2 years -- "Advice" is like the end to the first chapter in his life, and it marks the beginning of the second chapter. The song seems to be his way of saying I am done caring to everyone who judged him and all those haters who spread rumors and misinformation about him. "Advice" is showing that he is now free and confident to be himself, breaking stereotypes and now only listening to himself.
Taemin is just one of those performers that leaves you speechless every time he steps on stage. He was born to be a performer and that is one of the reasons why he has become known as the Korean Michael Jackson. That is also why, as one of the top two performers in the industry, he was made a member of SuperM. Taemin is an Idol of Idols and a legend of legends. (He is considered the blueprint for what it means to be a successful as a male solo artist. He was one of the first male idols from an active group to go solo, and he did it at such a young age, starting in 2014 at 21 years old. He has been a solo artist for more than half his career.)
And the title of the industry's BEST dancer isn't just a fan's opinion, but it's a widely agreed upon title bestowed on Taemin by his peers and the industry as a whole. (If you ask any of your favorite Kpop dancers who was their inspiration, they will most likely name Taemin as one of them.)
In "Advice" he's basically saying, "Stop trying to put me in a box, in which I'll never fit in." He is also speaking to everyone that says he's getting old, that he's just a Michael Jackson wannabe that doesn't sell a lot of albums because he tries too hard to be edgy, etc. He's rebelling against all those people who are constantly advising him to make more mainstream music, or to follow the traditional Kpop idol style, in order to boost his sales and his popularity. However, as Taemin is making clear in "Advice," that is not who he is and he will never be "normal" or "mainstream" and he is OK with that.
In the scenes where you see him covered in ink, I think that is supposed to be him showing everyone how he is no longer the "unstained," cute maknae everyone wants to think of him as. The diamond you see painted on his hand when he is playing the piano, and you see drawn on his bicep, etc. is SHINee's symbol and all the pearl aqua blue/green colors you see in the MV is SHINee's official color. (The large tattoo of a Peony flower you can see on his hip is real. Hence why in the lyrics he says, "I destroy the torso that you were chasing after." In other words, he's saying he's tired of people thinking they even have a say in what he does with his body.)
This song was specifically designed to not be like anything he has ever done before. He plays the piano, he raps, he shows off his falsetto notes, etc., which is different than what we often hear and see from him. He intentionally used this song to prove that he isn't one type of singer. People often think of Taemin as a sultry vocalist that sings in a breathy comfortable, less dynamic style. So, with this song he wants to prove to everyone that he can be unpredictable and try new things. Yet again, you can't put him in a box or tell him who to be. Everything you see in this MV is 100% Taemin, including the piano playing.
Everything that Taemin's haters like to point out about him and say are reasons why he shouldn't be held to such high esteem, I find completely ridiculous. I don't think that anyone who actually knows him would ever say he has played it safe at any time in his career. If you think he is only one dimensional, and that he is trying to be anything other than himself, then you really don't know Taemin. Everything he does is different, out there and definitely not safe. It's always uniquely Taemin, and he couldn't do it any other way.
Also, because Taemin is a member of SHINee, none of his songs are ever like anything you have ever heard or seen before from him. It will always have a new beat, style and sound. As SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, SHINee is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend, and that includes the members' solo work. With every new song Taemin produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from him in any of his songs, even on the same album, and yet, it still will be uniquely Taemin-like. Which is another example of how you can never put him in a box or expect anything from him. :D
Another theme in "Advice" is about how Taemin is embracing his androgynous side -- but on his own terms -- which I think is a continuation of the message in his "Move" MV. Early in his career when Taemin was growing up in SHINee -- he debuted in 2008 at 14 years old -- he was known for his delicate feminine features. It took him a long time to accept that he was recognized for his looks and to come to terms with the fact that everyone thought of him as a "pretty boy," etc. So, at this point in his career -- he is now 27 years old in this MV -- he is making a statement about how he has decided to be himself and no longer care what people think. Music is art and art has no gender. So, that is why in "Advice" you see him wearing hair extensions, fishnets and women's Supreme sportswear, etc. But if you notice, his choreography is very fast paced and sharp, which is hyper masculine -- a complete contrast to the "feminine" image people want to give him. You also see him wearing makeup, but it's smeared on his face, as if to say, "people may think of me as a 'Pretty Boy,' but I don't care about looking pretty."
In the lyrics he is saying, "It's creepy how people are always looking to cause drama, so stop trying to create scandals in my life that don't really exist. It's all just stories you make up." He's tired of all those people who seem to look for reasons to cause drama, where none really exists.

Where he says "floppy" in the lyrics, I think he's talking about knowing about or hearing firsthand the things people are saying about him, but he is choosing not to pay attention to them because what they're saying is flopping or doesn't hold any weight or have any substance, etc. "Advice" just proves that every time people try to put Taemin in a box, he destroys it and keeps coming back with something more unique and never seen before.
Hence, why in the choreography he puts his hands in front of his face and creates a movement that looks like an animated mouth talking. It represents how everyone keeps talking about him and what they are saying is nonsense, which makes them look and sound ridiculous, etc. Which is why in the lyrics he says, "You will never get the keys to my lock" because he doesn't ever plan to give people what they want and allow them access to his secrets and personal life, etc. (Those people who like to gossip about him will never truly know the real him.)
I interpret the "One (piece of) Advice" he is talking about in the lyrics as a reference to the advice he keeps being given about being more mainstream, but he's saying, "stop trying to make me conform to the image you have in your head of who I should be and what I should do." In other words, take all that time and effort you have been using to come up with ways to talk about how he doesn't fit in, etc. and put it to better use. "Follow my own advice" and do something original for once.
As a devout Catholic, Taemin often uses Biblical references and metaphors in his songs and MVs. And the crucifixion pose at the end of "Advice" is sort of a signature pose for him. I interpret it to be like he is saying, "And that is the end, this is my final word, take it or leave it, but don't doubt me. I have given it my all and laid everything I had out there for you," etc.

Wow! Thank you for that amazing breakdown of "Advice." And we agree, that all sounds like amazing advice. It has to be so tough to be an idol, even more so to be an idol for reasons that maybe you are not comfortable with yourself. What an amazing journey Taemin has been on. We are so honored to get to know him and his body of works.
Thanks again for all of the information - we feel like we understand Taemin a little bit better now! 😘

2:45 Not allot of 1992ers either …. JIN is the only 1992er in BTS, he shares same year with MONSTA X leader Shownu but I dont think MonstaX has been made it yet on SUCHWITA 😮 as well as JUNGKOOK being only 1997 in the group. So, JIN SUGA and JUNGKOOK only single year members besides sharing same year with other artists within the industry.
