    CORRECTION! I made a mistake in the video. The Bosch Nyon display does not offer charging for portable electronics. I believe the Micro-USB is only for charging the display or doing firmware updates. The only Bosch displays that do offer third party charging are Purion, Kiox, and Smartphone hub. These details come from a Bosch rep:
    Purion- no third-party charging
    Intuvia- 500mA third-party charging
    Kiox- 1,000mA third-party charging
    Nyon- no third-party charging
    Smartphone Hub- 1,500mA third-party charging

    I am trying to look objectively at this e-bike but man, the $6.1K starting price is just out there. However, I am sure R&M know their customers, the feature set and build quality they expect and the price that market will bear. I also know that you have to go up and down the e-bike food chain and I have confidence in the credibility and objectivity of your reviews ....whether a budget or boutique bike. BTW, I would never leave this bike out of my sight, EVER 🙂

      @@kalapanaguy I bought a Rad Rover Fat Tire just before the Pandemic (before prices and shipping times went crazy) and have since made a couple of performance mods.... considering how much I use it and the fun factor, its the best big ticket item I have bought in the last 5 years. All in, including current upgrades, its cost me $1800..... yeah, $6k is nuts

      This one is out of my price range but I've outgrown my Rad with its excessive weight, lousy breaks and smallish battery. If you lived in a nice climate and this was your only form of transportation then maybe.... but I'm probably going with a Specialized. It checks all the boxes for me.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  2 роки тому +9

      Yeah, it's a lot to spend... but it's also nice to have so many options. I feel like you can configure this platform in ways that no other ebike offers (or at least very few others) and it's tight and clean. My regular bicycle cost $5k when I bought it... and I still ride it every few days and maintain it perfectly. I feel like it was worth the money, but I do store it inside next to my bed so it won't get lifted like my Trek that was stolen after just one ride from inside the garage (they cut the gate) and they also cut the lock... such a bummer, had it less than a week.

    Nice bike, but reminds me of the Ride1Up Prodigy ST, for a third of the price. The Prodigy doesn't have the internal gears, but the riding experience is likely similar. Plus, the Brose motor is practically silent. I don't think I could get used to the high-pitched whine of Bosch, but I'm picky about motor noise. It is a great bike, with more battery capacity, and better customer support, but for those on a budget the Prodigy is a good alternative. Great review, as usual!

    It's a beautiful machine. Like most of the other commenters, I'm put off by the price, but if I felt comfortable spending that much on a bike, I'm sure I'd enjoy it. I like the belt drive vs. the chain drive, and I wish that were an option on more bikes.

    The R&M premium makes sense where they push the envelope (Full Suspension Bikes, their Cargo Bikes, Double Battery Bikes, Smart System, etc) but I have to wonder how many of these they sell. Doesn't feel like great value.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  2 роки тому +2

      You communicated that very well. However, this seems like a very mainstream bike type... hybrid. It's more affordable than their unique creations (full suspension cargo, for example) so it's like the middle of the bell curve and might attract a wider audience. It reminds me of a Porsche Boxter. More affordable than their other cars, but more generally appealing because it's cheaper and still a Porsche :D

    5:49 These "one size fit all" fender stay fasteners have no place on a $6000 bike. They pose a constant hazard of entangling riders' and pedestrians' coats, scarves, shopping bags and the like. Nowadays there are a large number of fully integrated and smoothly rounded fender stay fasteners available in the OEM market.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  2 роки тому +3

      I totally should have noticed that, excellent point! I was focused on the direct mount to the suspension fork lowers and the two stays but their interface with the fender isn't my favorite. Thanks for mentioning it!

    Holy s, this thing went up in price! I bought one in 2018 and I think it was only $4700 and it was the class C, 28 mph version. Mine is only 47 pounds - well, more with accessories, but it's light for a powerful ebike. It has no problem reaching 28 MPH top speed and feels more nimble than many of the other bikes I rode - including R&M's more expensive models, which are, IMO, tanks. Dislikes are the Bosch motor can be noisy going up steep grades and I wasn't pleased with having to pay for a firmware upgrade. And the mount for the Intuvia display needed to be replaced. But overall, it's a good bike. But I probably would not buy it again at the new > 6K price.

  • @Tellz02
    @Tellz02 2 роки тому +4

    I don't deny that R&M are a great brand and also an elite brand, but the price point IMO is still way higher than it needs to be.
    Just for comparison, I live in Europe so whatever brand I choose I am limited to a 250w motor (so the difference in performance is nominal). I own a Radwagon 4 (see Court's review for spec comparison) with:-
    4 spare batteries (672W/h). So what I loose in performance I gain in range.
    4 spare chargers
    4 battery carry cases
    2 large baskets
    2 large basket bags
    2 large cargo platforms
    1 front cargo rack
    2 large panier bags
    2 large cargo nets
    an upgraded headlight
    1 bluetooth media button
    a set of mirrors
    a set of footrests
    6 spare inner tubes
    2 spare tires
    2 kryptonite Evolution 4 chain locks
    a 50w bluetooth speaker
    a set of bone conductor headphones
    a set of winglights
    a quad lock phone mount
    And the full map package from Komoot.
    None of these accessories are cheap options (most are Rad Power's own brand accessories, prices available on their website).
    In total, I still come in approx. 1.5K cheaper than this bike. So cash left over for the latest iphone.
    If I wanted I could also improve the performance of my motor by purchasing an Eggrider (although I do not feel the need to do so) and upgrade other parts (brakes, suspension seatpost etc.) and still come in cheaper than the price point offered here.
    Also, bear in mind that to buy a R&M model that offers the same utility and configuration options that my Rad offers would also increase this price difference significantly.
    Yes, R&M and similar brands use better quality parts but there is no way that you can convince me that those parts or the difference in real world performance justify that kind of price difference.
    In terms of real world performance (and to use the often used analogy), the difference between a high end sportscar and a Honda Prius is vast but the difference between these two bikes is not when all is said and done. Although what price for a status symbol, well I guess that is up to the individual 💰😎😁
    As a disclaimer I do not work for or am not paid to sponsor Rad Power Bikes, I am just using them because that is what I have and so know my details to be correct for this comparison.
    BTW. great video Court, as always. I have followed your channel for a number of years and it was your review that convinced me that the Rad 4 was the bike that offered exactly the spec for me. Thank you, the bike has improved my life more than you could know, it's a real workhorse.🚲💨😎👍

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  2 роки тому +1

      Wow, you've got the bike lifestyle going! Quit the setup, thank you so much for sharing all of the details. I do lean towards good value when it comes to cars and bikes... because they could get scratched, crashed, stolen etc. and I don't want to be afraid to use them. My current automobile is a 2004 Toyota Corolla with high mileage, and I can always park up front without caring if the doors are dinged. I get good gas mileage, and if there's a fender bender I won't lose as much to insurance deductible and mismatched appraisal.
      I love R&M stuff, and depending on my house situation and use, it could definitely be worth the money, but I love the utility and affordability of many other products. I'm glad that you're happy with the value on the RadWagon and it's holding up well. I think they have a good ecosystem and very reasonable support for the price.

I’m still finding the traditional flat bars more comfortable especially since I like to lean a little while riding. But I hear from so many people swept back handlebars are more comfortable. Any tips?

      Yeah, and I think the Roadster would be a good contender. Great hardware, excellent frame, top of the line drive system from Bosch. I got a full suspension mountain bike about 8 years ago from Haibike (which also used Bosch) and then gave it to my Uncle. He has commuted to work with it, ridden long trails, off-road, and it's still going strong. He replaced the chain, derailleur, and upgraded from PowerePack 400 to 500 when range began to dip after 5 years, but it's still going. The Bosch motors have gotten more durable since then, according to a repair guy I know. Here's the video with my uncle talking about his Haibike ua-cam.com/video/RuSKCSFuxdY/v-deo.html

    I Purchased used with 90 miles, 2021 model for $3,400 out-the-door last Summer.
    I don’t see any features on the $6.5k e-bike that my Gazelle does not come equipped.
    Maybe the display is a little nicer. I have the Bosch black and white display on the left but it serves just fine.
    I did purchase a Suntour shock seat post and replaced the seat with a Specialized cup, but I am still under $3 600 and new they are $1,500 less and I believe the Gazelle 380 plus offers the same features I am seeing on a much more expensive bike.

    Hi, friends. It looks like neither the web review nor this YT review indicates whether this ebike meets UL 2849 or EN 15194 certification. Given the July 15th NBDA statement to retailers and the industry, you really need to indicate which bikes meet UL standards or any European standards (which I gather are evolving). Really. It doesn't take much, and you'll be serving your viewers/readers better.
