I always figure when Decicco was killed. The other bosses knew John enough that the guy would eventfully do something to hang himself, which he did with Sammy. Once Frankie was gone, the head of the snake was cut, and it was a waiting game to see if Gotti could swim or sink without having someone like Frank being able to smooth things over or keep John under control. John wasn't a true boss in a sense; the guy loved the spotlight, and he loved to flaunt his title to the masses. It was only a matter of time before his own ego would seal his fate into a position he couldn't wiggle out of. To the other bosses, killing Frankie Decicco was just as good as killing Gotti.

I always figure when Decicco was killed. The other bosses knew John enough that the guy would eventfully do something to hang himself, which he did with Sammy. Once Frankie was gone, the head of the snake was cut, and it was a waiting game to see if Gotti could swim or sink without having someone like Frank being able to smooth things over or keep John under control.
John wasn't a true boss in a sense; the guy loved the spotlight, and he loved to flaunt his title to the masses. It was only a matter of time before his own ego would seal his fate into a position he couldn't wiggle out of.
To the other bosses, killing Frankie Decicco was just as good as killing Gotti.
He didn't. They put a hit and missed when they blew up his car. After that they had to lay down. Paul REALLY got clipped bc of Gene dealing drugs and getting caught. John would NEVER let anyone hit his crew, so he put him down. If the commission kept pushing, they knew how it would end.
