The sense of emotion this song brought to that scene in Dear White People. Perfectly painted the confusion (And curiosity) in Sam and the long lasting desire in Reggie in that moment. The decision despite being wrong morally made so much sense emotionally speaking. It was the slow realization of taking things to a new point. A new horizon. A love that's been there forever yet oddly so fresh. Powerful.
It was masterful and both actors ... lol, damn it felt like they were not acting. Logan Browning (Sam) really had to deal with that pull of both her cultures being bi racial. Likely , also wanting at times in her life to live more authentically "black" but conflicted by her pull to things considered "white". Marque Richardson (Reggie) is a chocolate skinned black Man who knows the experience of being profiled. They brought their reality and let it speak through the scene brilliantly in each moment. I am only on chapter 7 now but each episode has gotten deeper and deeper into the intersection weeds of race, appropriation, colorism, sexism ... it's absolutely brilliant.
David Saintloth That's what makes the show brilliant. It isn't just some "anti-white" show; it really takes in all perspectives intelligently. From race, to sexuality, to destiny, and of course the different shades of love. The show deserves much more attention.
That particular scene in Dear White People was for me one of the best especially with that music. The show is phenomenal, its funny yet incredibly moving and heartbreaking... Everyone, watch it... its life-changing
Dear white people brought me here because I feel like I felt some type of pain and passion in this mixed feeling that has no word to describe it....something that is felt everyday but has never had anything to call it.
I THINK these are the full lyrics but I could be wrong: I see you running into the woods With your bright yellow jacket You look lost You look lost I see you running into the woods With your bright yellow jacket You look lost You look lost You know kids like you Ain't supposed to know That the world is broken And the sun is frozen You know kids like you Ain't supposed to feel Like the earth is caving And the world ain't spinning for you I bet you never knew, never knew, that love could be this bright Ain't it something, smile or something I bet you never knew, never knew, never knew That air could taste this sweet, I bet you never knew I see you running into the woods With your bright yellow jacket You look lost You look lost I see you running into the woods With your bright yellow jacket You look lost You look lost If you heard that I'm a threat then you heard right Shades on but there ain't a lens for my third eye People are see-through, they ain't really trying to learn But you eating what I feed you cause it's served right. People see me and perceive me in the worst light I find it hard to read me I ain't speaking I observe guys Cause people who deceive you I ain't really trying to learn lies. Searching for meaning with my burnt eyes When I'm old and I'm grey and I've been through it all Ask me what I've learnt I'll say 'I've learnt life' Pick up my book of rhymes Blow it and watch the dirt rise Looking down at earth from a birds eye Searching But searching for what Searching for the purpose, the words and the worth that we lost My eyes ain't awake and my mind's in a place where you can get what you ask for every time that you pray Some want world peace Some want ice and a chain Some want wealth Some want help finding a way And we got it Just imagine we all got it
Laura Zonnevylle I always thought it was ‘I ain’t speaking, I observe GUISE’ since he’s talking about deception and perception. Both are pronounced the same 🤔 although I didn’t look up the lyrics
If you heard that im a threat then you heard right Shades on but there ain't a lense for my third eye People are see through, they ain't really trying to learn But you're eating what I feed you 'cus it's served right People see me and perceive me in the worse light Find it hard to read me, I aint speaking, I observe guys Cus people will deceive you, I ain't really trying to learn lies Searching for meaning with my burned eyes When im old and im grey and I've been through it all Ask me what Ive learned and I say I've learned life Pick up my book of rhymes, blow it and watch the dirt rise Looking down to earth from a birds eye Searching but searching for what Searching for the purpose, the words and the worth that we lost My eyes ain't awake and my minds in a place Where you can get what you ask for everytime that you pray Some want world peace, some want ice in a chain Some want wealth, some want help finding a way And we got it, Just imagine we all got it
I love this. It’s so somber. The beat just reminds me of Doja Cat’s Trauma. Just makes me want to lie down and rest and think in peace. Sometimes we just need that.
Kids like you ain't suppose to know that the World is broken the sun is frozen, you know kids like you ain't supposed to feel like that the earth caving and the earth ain't spinning for you.😢😢❤❤...this song is soo deep I relate to another level!

This song is really inspiring though . I'm getting the French Montana "unforgettable" vibe from the it. I listen to this song whenever I'm down and it does help.
And I see you running into the woods With your bright yellow jacket, you look lost You look lost I see you running into the woods With your bright yellow jacket, you look lost You look lost You know kids like you Ain't supposed to know That the world is broken And the sun is frozen You know kids like you Ain't supposed to feel Like the earth is caving And the world ain't spinning for you, you, you And I bet you never knew, never knew, love could be this bright Ain't it something, smile or something I bet you never knew, never knew, never knew, the air could taste this sweet I bet you never knew I see you running into the woods With your bright yellow jacket, you look lost You look lost I see you running into the woods With your bright yellow jacket, you look lost You look lost, you look lost, you look lost
I ended up finding a version of this song by this guy emilio paredes and i thought it was amazing, and i listened to it on repeat. I mean really, dont we all want to invite Sam into our dorm before a protest and kiss her and let her know that we've secretly loved her this entire time? thas why we all love this song lol

And yes, you look lost, you know kids like you ain't supposed to know...etc.i never came across a song this captivating... Ive never been this overtaken by sound and words. I heard every other song of Victor Taiwan but strange enough...
My life is changing but this son remains in my soul.
Stepping into 2025 without baggage, like this if you believe

I THINK these are the full lyrics but I could be wrong:
I see you running into the woods
With your bright yellow jacket
You look lost
You look lost
I see you running into the woods
With your bright yellow jacket
You look lost
You look lost
You know kids like you
Ain't supposed to know
That the world is broken
And the sun is frozen
You know kids like you

If you heard that I'm a threat then you heard right
Shades on but there ain't a lens for my third eye
People are see-through, they ain't really trying to learn
But you eating what I feed you cause it's served right.
People see me and perceive me in the worst light
I find it hard to read me
I ain't speaking
I observe guys
Cause people who deceive you
I ain't really trying to learn lies.
Searching for meaning with my burnt eyes
When I'm old and I'm grey and I've been through it all
Ask me what I've learnt
I'll say 'I've learnt life'
Pick up my book of rhymes
Blow it and watch the dirt rise
Looking down at earth from a birds eye
Searching
But searching for what
Searching for the purpose, the words and the worth that we lost
My eyes ain't awake and my mind's in a place where you can get what you ask for every time that you pray
Some want world peace
Some want ice and a chain
Some want wealth
Some want help finding a way
And we got it
Just imagine we all got it
im pretty sure its "Like the earth just coulda been"
Laura Zonnevylle I always thought it was ‘I ain’t speaking, I observe GUISE’ since he’s talking about deception and perception. Both are pronounced the same 🤔 although I didn’t look up the lyrics
