I feel like the Vince Documentary wasn’t for the hardcore fans because they’ve basically talked about the history of WWE and how become the biggest wrestling company in the world and stuff we already knew for YEARS, like the Montreal Screwjob, Steroid Trial and the Benoit Tragedy. Felt more like this was aimed at people who aren’t fans of wrestling
You can find a better documentary of Vince on UA-cam And I said the same thing after theb1st episode i knew it was a WWE HISTORY DOCUMENTARY NOT A VINCE
Imo, this doc was to introduce the Netflix audience to wrestling. Trying to grab a new audience. It would have been more fitting if it was just labeled as a WWE history doc, but it seems they named it Vince to draw more attention to it. People not into wrestling might have heard about the Vince scandal, so this would draw them in. Just my thoughts.
I think the contradictions and lies were the worst. Vince denying Undertaker had a concussion at Mania 30 and chalked it up to him being upset the Streak was over. We've heard for over a decade and even in the Last Ride Documentary from Taker himself that he had a concussion, he collapsed backstage post match, etc. The whole reason he continued Over The Edge 1999 was because the arena was dark and nobody saw it happen. WTF...
As a fan of wrestling this documentary was literally made for casual wrestling fan but the only thing I learn from this documentary would have to be Vince favorite wrestler and biological father introduced him to wrestling
I agree with every point, documentary really didn’t say anything we didn’t already know about Vince. His attitude about everything they did is exactly what I expected from him.
I don’t get into all the extra stuff, so there were quite a few more things I didn’t know than most probably. I was just very surprised they talked about Benoit and Owen Hart as they usually try to steer away from that.
I mean both are large parts of the history of the company. Owen being a Hart and staying with a company that screwed his brother over. Even now with his niece being on the roster and how Owen’s wife and children view Vince and the company. I mean they retroactively made Owen “All Elite”. Benoit……as good a a wrestler he was, he was also a monster. But that moment almost killed the entire industry not just WWE. His wife can’t even be remembered in the Hall of Fame as “Woman” because of him. He ruined his legacy and his wife’s. Since then they have done everything to scrub his name from anything. With that being said notice they won’t edit out his matches? Because it’s still their history. So this doc would have to touch it especially since only non WWE media has. Granteddddddd now with his lawsuit against him it has raised that case back into light with every other scandal. What I took away was him saying multiple times through all six’s episodes was this. “I’ll do everything to protect the business”, even others said “He will always put the business first”. Makes you think about all those scandals
All this doc did for me was further confirm how absolutely insane Vince always has been while proving how many enablers surround him with the likes of everybody in the doc except Atlas, Hart, & Meltzer. Just imagine how many other things he’s probably gotten away with because of that. I don’t care that “he’s done so much for the business” that doesn’t justify any of the actions he’s engaged in. He is, always has been & always will be a monster.
Agreed. I never expected this to be a “wrestling fans” documentary. However, The executive producer said in a recent podcast that there had been enough material to fill 10 hours. Trouble is around four hours’ worth of content filmed with McMahon himself, which was rendered unusable after ge struggled with his voice during recordings. Personally I find it hard now, enlight of whats come to light, to here McMahon or have him talked about in a positive light. McMahon is just a peice of ****. Over the years in his head he has twisted facts to suit what he wants and now believes everything he’s distorted to be fact of the matter.
I agree with ya Matt, it was kinda disappointing was definitely looking forward to more of the behind the scenes of these moments more story's about how people truely felt about certain story lines , like from how the divas felt about how he treated them back then. The Shane stuff was probably the most interesting about it and the Vince interviews just seemed weird.
Here's the thing these interviews with VKM was recorded before the scandal even came out. So pretty much was before he even left the company. They wanted more interviews after the point but Vince said No
For me the one of main goals was to separate the image of Vince from the wwe in the eyes of the casual fan before it came to Netflix. For people who haven’t watched in a long time or don’t know much the two are still intertwined and they might not know he’s gone. The doc kind of says “look at this guy and all the messed up crap he did, but he’s gone now so it’s ok to watch again”.
I enjoyed it but my issue with it was that it didn't feel like a documentary about Vince. It felt like a history of WWE. Good in its own right...but not what I'd class as a "Mr. McMahon" documentary.
I can agree to disagree I think there should've been 7-10 episodes but at least 7. They could've made an extra episode talking about the ruthless aggression era and the stars in that because they didn't really do much of that. And then an extra episode or two of more recent stuff would've been nice.

@@Qingmide01yeah I would suggest asking people and bringing wrestling topics that you find interesting to people. That's how I met my now best friend who I discuss wrestling with all the time.
this wasnt vince's fault he legit mad a statement saying they didnt use majority of the footage to tell the story "they" wanted everyone just claimed he was upset it was gonna make him look way worse, but then when it realeased its clear that isnt the case
Judging from the fact this was stated before The allegations I feel like this was supposed to be promotional heat to get non viewers interested for when raw moves to Netflix.
Could not disagree more. You have to understand they can’t force people to talk. I think it was expertly done. I did not expect anything earth shattering. In regards to Vince, after he spouted lies they would immediately cut to contradictory footage. Those interviews were not a trial, they were not going to go after him.
Episode 1 & 2 felt like it was a great start to the doc but even they had its flaws. 3, 4 & 5 for the most part was just the usual history lesson you get from WWEs own network shows. Episode 6 was decent enough.
We were fed a bunch of information over a long period of time that told us what we already knew about Vince There's no shortage of documentaries many of which you could probably get on peacock I think most of us wanted to hear about the newest scandal the one that ended his career And what did we get? 20 minutes of that?
I thought the doc was fine, the funny thing is that most WWE content creators wanted it to be a hit piece so they could get on their soapboxes and rail against Vince Mc being a terrible person so they can get more twitter applause and followers...corny, it was never going to be that, if you know anything about the type of business approach Netflix takes with its partnerships
The documentary gave you enough to piece things together but you don’t get it unless you really know Vince. I think Vince was abused physically by his stepdad and abused sexually by his mother. This is why he’s the way he is. The on screen character was a way for him to cathartically act out his perversions and his life story. The match with Shane at Mania 17 was told play for Vince. He was playing his abusive stepdad. Shane was playing Vince as a kid. And Linda was there as Vince’s mom. Her stepping in and helping Shane win the match was Vince wishing that his mother would have stopped his stepdad from beating on him. Vince also treats women how he does because he subconsciously resented his mother for allowing him to be a victim of abuse by his stepdad and for sexually abusing him as he hinted at in the Playboy interview. That’s what I got from this documentary but there’s no way of knowing what’s the truth because Vince doesn’t seem interested in allowing ppl in. He says we don’t know the real him but he’s also not interested in showing us the real him. The documentary should’ve been something else but it ended up being a hit piece. I also can’t help but note the irony of Vince sr. originally wanting to give the company to Gorilla Monsoon and then Vince Jr.‘s initial retirement saw him give the company to Triple H in a way. God bless Shane and Stephanie.
Great review. I honestly loved the documentary for the nostalgic factor. I feel like Vince maybe used to be a decent guy but loved the power and authority his gimmick brought him and stopped separating the two, ending up becoming the character full time.
I have not watched. I will not watch and I will not watch his biography he is allegedly working on. My feeling is what it's been since about 2000 what we saw on tv is who he is minus the depravity to an extent, remember this guy did have Trish bark like a dog for him. From what I heard from reviews of it its like they were trying to play both masters they wanted to be honest about his vile, repulsive behavior but also wanted to create a narrative of "he's still human" and I'm sorry he''s not, he's just not a human being to me. You got it right at the end Matt "The man is evil" enough sad man

It just proves that vince mcmahon doesn't care shows how much of a monster. He really is because he cares about nothing other than himself
As someone that knew little to nothing about the Vince stuff, the documentary was very eye opening
It needed more Phil Mushnick and less Bruce Pritchard.

Apparently some stuff was cut because Vince’s voice was shot for an entire filming day
this was basically like a book called "Pro wrestling for Dummies"; there was a highlight of Vincent K. McMahon's 2001 Playboy article online...
