Why do car reviewers always want the car to be the size of a Ford Everest and back seats they can sprawl out in? It's a small car. It's not meant to haul 6 adults comfortably. Now Audi is going to make the next fen the size of an A4 and completely ruin what is perfect about the A3. Some people do value maneuverability over a fuel guzzling barge.
I am 6' 3" and I love my A3. It fits me perfectly. I am an ice hockey goalie in Chicago and I get all my gear in the trunk easily. SUVs suck. They're ugly and do not handle well. When I took my A3 in for annual service at the dealer one time, they said they needed to keep it over a weekend. They gave me a Q5 as a loaner. I was less than happy. I thought they would just give me another A3 to loan. When I asked to get an A3 to loan, the dealer said, "We only have Q5s as loaners, because most people like SUVs." I was horrified. I took the Q5 because I needed a car. It sucked. I felt like I was going to run other cars off the road because it was so clumsy and slow. But I made due. When I returned that terrible car, I made sure to tell the dealer how unhappy I was. I'm sure it made no difference. Most people do seem to like large, awful cars. I hope they make at least an A4 as an option for a loaner in the future.
Its barely big enough for the average person, but then again the average person in this world is quite small. The front is actually surprisingly roomy for a car this small, but the back seat is one notch above a 2 seater. Basically unusable for adults. It just feels like a fairly poor value for the price when the backseat is so cramped. I'm never going to be back there, but I just feel like Im not getting much bang for my buck with a car this size. Test drove it, and it was great, but here in the US Audi's are on the expensive side for what we know is a very nice tarted up VW. The car is very nice, but then you see the price, and you start thinking about all the other cars you could get for the same money or less. I guess what I'm saying is that it would be great if there was just a little more car to this car. Obviously, better reliability would be great, but I'm not going to fault a German car for being a German car. It is what it is.
@@pj8761 Hit the nail on the head. I think for that price one should be considering Korean and Japanese cars these days. Hyundai, Honda, Kia and Toyota are coming up with some really interesting cars at a lower price. I am driving the bigger brother A4 B9 and it is the worst financial decision I have ever made I must say, compared to the VW Passat and Arteon.
I juts got mine last Monday, it’s super comfy however I’m felling a noticeable turbo lag in the city I come from a Mini Cooper S f56, but I’m pretty happy with my car
I know, I'm a bit out of breath aren't I? It was about 40 degrees that day and a shoot can get quite physical... maybe I need a stunt double? Any takers? Thanks Richard
@@carsguide Whatever you review, not by other reviewers. European cars do tend to slowly evolve from a design perspective - just look at the Porsche 911. I think the Korean carmakers are keen to grab our attention with new cutting edge designs and features as they set out to establish themselves further. Cheers Richard
And if you watch carefully, Mr Berry will demonstrate at the 4:00 mark exactly why SUVs have become such a popular family chariot. Kid seats are the interior space destroyer.
HSV Commodore ‘nobody needs an SUV’? Really? Not all places you would like to get to are serviced by smooth dry tarmac buddy, and I cannot think of a single van that is enjoyable to drive even when conditions are good. A van is an appliance, not a vehicle.
R Soul you only Need an suv if you Go offroading and i think 99.9% of People never do that. A wagon Ort van is a much better choice (i do understand that you don't want a van tho)
Spot on mate. We're shooting the Audi Q5 review next week and I'll do the same thing with the car seat. I reckon it'll be much less of a pain in the back. Cheers Richard
At 9:40 it shows why SUVs should go away. Handling, parking, and fuel. Everyday in rush hour I'm so happy I drive a small car and can maneuver into tight spots no SUV dare try
Oh god the Sportback.. it's so awkward looking. Audi could have created a Golf-ish looking hatch which would have been pretty, but nope. Thank you Richard
Hi Richard, i got my Audi Dec 2018 ,68 reg A3 35TFSi does that make it a 2019 model? If yes, how do i project my Navigation from the small screen, unto the Dashboard screen just as you did at the beginning of the Video.
11.9l/100km? kinda of atrocious...my bmw 135i is doing 11.5...and has more than 320ps with bmw performance tuning kit.... u shld be looking at closer to 6l/100km....50/50 urban/highway
Great car, but this is a relatively poor value. If you must, this is a 2 or 3 year lease car because of the poor warranty, and the proven poor history of reliability that shows you will be needing to use the warranty and then some.
I think lost cars have reliability problems, I’ve had a new 2015 Mini Cooper S for 4 years and it had a ton of problems, last Monday I got my new a3 i hope a have better luck this time

I find it interesting that my "fuel guzzling barge" (a pajero sport) gets the same fuel economy around town....
Very, very true. Small cars used to be just that. In the 70's you could park a Civic or Corolla anywhere.

@@club1fan552 Sad thing is, if you want a decent small car these days, you have to go Audi or Lexus.
I'm not sure who you're complaining about, he's just explaining what you're going to get
I’m 170 cm, i live in a city. I have no kids. A3 perfect for me.
Lol car not too small for an average person. You are just too tall for an average car 😉😉😉

WTF complains about the lack of proximity unlocking when you still need a hand to open the damn door?!
I have this exact car and love it!
will you recommend for first time buyer? is the back seats practical for daily run?
Yes. Not the roomiest backseat but practical enough for day to day if you don't have big passengers. @@TheJEFF-GC

Giving it a 6/10 for practicality is a little unfair because you are 1.91m...besides you make your review funny hahaha
Dude I'm 1,88m tall and this car is fine for me! Unless your kids are NBA players the back seats are ok for children or average height adults!
if you tall dont buy small car, if you small..you can buy big car and small car! how simply is that?
I'm 6'3" and love my A3.
Why did you show a car at a basketball court? Sure there is plenty of car parks around

This does not look like the new Audi A3 that’s due out 2019. Inside design is the same .
I wish you has used the hatch. It looks nicer in my opinion and I presume it’s more practical.

comparing this to kia forte regardless of the price, which one do you recomned?
If the A3 would maintain itself as it is and be a bit large, I would get it.
Fyi, don't like the New A4 shifter, so I dont want an a4.
Can,t get exited over any german cars nowadays. They never change. Unlike korean cars, which are.

Great review Richard - agree re styling which is novel for a sedan as its rear 3/4 view is very stylish and I prefer to dumpy Sportback.

When does the 2019 a3 come out for you lot in Australia 🇦🇺 or New Zealand ? I’m in UK 🇬🇧 & waiting for to have a release date

Agree, but it doesn't Look as dated as bmw's, because only some Audi Models look dated, but every bmw looks like a 10 year old car (inside and out)

I don't think it looks that good, pretty bland to be honest. I think the new Kia Cerato looks way better
... and most likely more reliable..
Greg Burville well yep, the Audi costs twice as more too and is half as good as a Kia. No idea why anyone would consider the Audi
The new Cerato Sedan is pretty good looking... and yes, better value. Cheers Richard
