We go thru the lock and damn systems on the Arkansas River here in Arkansas, in a flat bottom boat with a 25 horse moter, before daylight and after dark to duck hunt. The first few times we did it was the scariest thing I have ever done.
honestly, i don't think the swirls or water level changes are a problem for my boat, but if u grab the concrete wall... then all bets are off..
That's when the big catfish bits I've fished there the shades run the wall you can get them deepening net really easy when there on water rough but the fish bites

I’m always nervous around dams, I was near one years ago when a diver was checking something out on a dam and never resurfaced. He was part of maintenance team assessing some kind of issue😢

At 0:52 a whirlpool forms. It's strong enough to pull you under and keep you down there. Even if he's on a boat, you never wanna go near one.

This is why when I see kayakers up by dam I cringe if this where to happen with them that close, and I know some that go under dam in kayak have to lay down to get under tried get me to do it said it's awsome under there you can just see giant fish swimming and that they'll warn you first before raising or lowering water i said shit I was born at night but not last night hells no I'm all for adventure and will do some shady shit but if that water would raise you'd be trapped and sure you could swim out but if it drained immediately after like this you're fucked and drowning is no go if I can help it to high risk
