This standard isn't played enough!
That bass player brings some kinda tone I've not heard before from the instrument. Really blends well with the sublime tone the combo gets with trumpet sitting out. Would love to hear this bass player Yasushi Nakamura doubled with the Emmet's Place combo stalwart Russell Hall on "Isfahan" with John Ellis's mellow reed tone and those spare brush and stick moves by drummer Kyle Poole. Doubled bass with Hall playing the sinuous melody lines arco and Nakamura doing his pointillist thing with those deep clean notes might make for an even fresher arrangement. If Ron Carter weren't playing tonight here in PoTown, Ore at the Newman Theater it'd be fun to hear that trio of basses in this combo's arrangement! If, of course, I wasn't living in the apartment downstairs....
