We use Pandit as a prefix before the name of Hariprasad Chaurasia or Shiv Kumar Sharma or other stalwarts of classical music and Ustad for Muslim vocalists/musicians. Its a kind of reverence that people should always convey. Otherwise there'd be no difference between them and with the other conventional singers.
A musician has to earn this honour with severe process of training, learning, practice, and then giving tests with impeccable skill in front of the prominent musicians/singers.
Often people with 20-25 years of such background fail to achieve such honour.
So, I would urge you- it would be very kind of you if you use Pandit or Ustad before writing or saying their name. Just like Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma or Ustd Ali Akbar Khan.
You are lucky to taste it LIVE....
So correctly explained by fellow as who are pandits or ustads. ....I hope the community of musicians and music lovers recognizes that.......

Probably Santoor playing is most loved by Shiva Mahadeva.
If we were to recognize and encourage the forgotten castes, there are thousands of Shiv Kumars out there in India... But the prefix or suffix determines in India how high one will reach...
