I preferred Uprooted to Spinning Silver as well. Spinning Silver I did on audio and it actually worked better for me.

I agree I think the audio went a long way to setting the cool mood of the story. I’m hopeful she’ll do another one of these retelling eventually.

I've followed the Foul Days / Monstrous Nights cover artist, Rovina Cai, for YEARS and will forever be in love with her work. I'm absolutely reading both of those this year!! ✨

I can see why! Those covers were what made me think - yes. I must read this haha.

So glad you liked Scarab Path!! I need to give the Combat Codes a real go not on my phone the way I tried it the first time.
Hope you like the ending to a Time of Courage - I had a thrilling time with that giant final battle.
I had a great time with the Sea Watch too, and I hope you enjoy the extremely creative worldbuilding in there!
Oh my god you’re up to Demon in White!!!!!!!

I think if you snagged an audio of Combat you’d have a much better experience. Hopefully anyway! Right, I have so many good books to look forward to! I’m especially excited for Sea Watch just based on the title - I love water stuff and I can’t wait to see what he does with it!

@@TheObsessiveBookseller yah I’ll definitely give it a go with the audiobook next time for Combat Codes. And I think you’re in for a treat then with Sea Watch!!

Great video Niki! The Scarab Path sounds interesting. I’ve yet to read any John Gwynne lol. I need to remedy that.

Thank you! I’d be so curious to see what you think of Gwynne. I can’t predict if it would work for you or not.

Thank you, that’s the route I ended up going. It was enough to get me sufficiently back into it, with a single exception.

Keep it going You got this. I have been reading a lot of H. P. Lovecraft lately. and looking forward to reading/finishing Conan the Barbarian: The Official Motion Picture Adaptation this month 📚

Thanks! Nice lineup - my husband has a bind up of a bunch of Lovecraft stories and says they’re awesome (and a little horrifying, which is why I haven’t read them).

I agree with you on Spinning Silver, overall not bad, but the second part fell away from the feel of the beginning. I had the same experience with the audiobook and the multiple perspectives, definitely got confused for a bit every time we switched characters.

    • @TheObsessiveBookseller
      @TheObsessiveBookseller  5 місяців тому

Oh yes, you definitely had a similar experience! I wish the story had remained more consistent because I really loved the beginning. If it were just the POV confusion issues I would’ve been okay, but I just didn’t care for how the story developed (it did have some redeeming qualities though).

I want to continue the Shadows of the Apt Series soon too. I'm reading book #3 in April. Novik doesn't work for me.

I’m glad you’re still loving it! I’ve had two Noviks I didn’t care for and three or four I absolutely loved, so I think overall she works for me.

I really need to get back to Empire of Silence so I can continue in that series. I stopped reading because it was on audible then I had other things come up on Libby and I knew I could always go back to audible whenever I needed. So here I am only on chapter 21. lol

Haha I thought you’d finished it! I do the same thing so often. Those pending due books yell at me louder. I’m excited to see how you like it as you get further. I’m not confident in a prediction on it for you!

I’m sure you could just read the first book and feel satisfied if you’d like. I haven’t read the second one so I’m not sure how strongly it plays off the first book yet.

@@TheObsessiveBookseller Valid fact. But if there is a mystery is it not solved in the first book?🤔 I don't mind some open questions and like the feeling there is more to it being left for book 2.

@@miyayume_eclectic_dream Oh I see what you mean. Yes the mystery from the first book is wrapped up completely at the end.
