I was introduced to Tassinari by a friend, many years ago. He claimed she didn't know what type of voice she had. The fact that she moved from soprano to mezzosoprano makes much more sense to me. Thanks.
I've followed/studied "great voices" for much of 40 years. Have never even heard the name of Pia Tassinari until this video. How is she NOT one of the elite voices that one even oblivious to opera would have bumped into...?
Pia or Domenica Tassinari * September 15, 1903 + May 15, 1995 made her debut in 1927 as Mimi in Puccini's La Boheme and in 1932 she came to La Scala in Milan, where she celebrated 20 years of great success - she sang several premieres of now forgotten works at this house In 1941 she married the tenor F. Tagliavini (complete recording of L'amico Fritz with her husband and the bartitone Saturno Meletti) 1947-48 engagement at the Met in NY from 1952 she sang alto parts
There are a lot of great singers that most people are not aware of. I first heard her sing the La Boheme arias. I made this for you. I prefer her voice to her husbands. Her voice is more open and balanced. ua-cam.com/video/F0k8Zw4pWM8/v-deo.html
Because nowadays a lot of people, especially younger generations attracted towards opera, find info and videos on the internet ( myself included). So, when a great artist is seldom seen on the net, it's more difficult to bump into his/her name. Plus, a certain critics school labelled the way of singing of these great artists as old fashoned or aged. I clearly remeber hearing a popular opera radio broadcast calling "great, but nowadays almost unacceptable" the way of singing of Italo Tajo, for example. Thankfully, many UA-cam users started to make those voices popular again. The owner of this channel, and others. I discovered more singers these past two years than the previous 7. Thanks to you guys for these precious uploads.
Tassinari started off as a Soprano then moved to Mezzo roles. She was also the wife of Ferruccio Tagliavini. Please Like and Subscribe.
One of the greatest
SHE WAS WONDERFUL!

This is beautiful. Thank you!
She had many Tebaldi quality in her voice
I was thinking the same in her Adriana Lecouvreur. She is a soprano for me with ability to sing mezzo roles as well
