I think it's either that fiends change based on the treatment and emotions they are exposed to. Otherwise Charlotte must possess some sort of power that allows her compassion to change fiends into friends.
My theory is that Charlotte's parents are actually dead, which is why she lives with her grandmother. And her grandmother told her that her parents were astronauts instead of just coming out and saying they're dead because she's a little girl and couldn't handle it.
I can see the conversation now. Charlotte: Grandma, where are Mommy and Daddy? Charotte's grandma: They're in a better place.... Up there.... Charlotte: Ooh! They're in outer space?! Charlotte's grandma: ....Ah, yes! They're in outer space! They're astronauts!
Notice how when they show the picture of Charlotte with her real parents, she looks exactly the same age. Her parents must have died very recently, and maybe that's why her grandma moved her out to Clamburg, so that none of the people in her hometown would tell Charlotte what really happened.
A theory is that when Charlotte was at Vermont her grandma killed her parents when Charlotte was away and then her grandma buried the parents before Charlotte was And she acts like she is innocent
I believe that's also why Charlotte mistook the fiends for her real parents: she's in denial! Charlotte is willing to accept a pair of bloodthirsty fiends as her real parents as long as it means she doesn't have to say goodbye to them. It can also explain why Charlotte seems to love the idea of dying: she wants to see her parents again.
Vendetta is secretly trying to make her happy I think she did something nice for her and I think they love each other I left comments on another vid from this series and it explains everything in my brain
Lana Foletta yeah they dead her grandma probably told her that so she wouldn't have to be the one to give her the death talk they probably died in a car crash or something when she was to young to remember
The song make me want to cry. It's just so sad that Charlotte's parents died, and she's treating the fiends so kindly and that hug she gave them when she thought they were her parents... It makes my heart want to tear out. And when the fiends died, I feel like it represents how Charlotte's parents died. She literally turned around and the next second, they're gone.
Yep. Making Fiends was an incredible series. I'm still confused on why they cancelled d it. It's like a more child-friendly version of Invader Zim, another great show that gotcanceled.
I think it's more so because she's a child. Children who are that young do not properly develop object permanence, so death is something like a triviality or hard to grasp to a developing mind until they reach their older years.
@@skwuidwurd I kind of wish it was Cartoon Network. A smiling friends episode where Pim and Charley visit clamburg would be absolutely incredible, and considering smiling friends is a homage to web animation and Making Fiends started as one, it’d make sense.

Vendetta is quite simply... Evil...but instead of outright killing her parents she keeps them around. Her parents also don't seem to be afraid of her like everyone else and you could say their behavior around might not have changed at all. Their is still love somewhere in that black hole called Vendetta's Heart.
+Lone Wanderer She strikes me as a selfish and spiteful little-girl who got a hold of power she wasn't mature enough to wield yet and used it to build a world in her own image.
My theory: Vendetta’s parents were extremely strict, (Straight A’s, punished with belt, etc.) so Vendetta shrunk them down so she could easily turn the tables on them, now they know better than to do something about her being disrespectful, back talking her parents, etc.
This episode is pretty much the only one I remembered watching, yet it still played in the back of my mind several years later. I kept wondering, “What was the name of that strange show with a blue girl who had monsters for parents?” Upon revisiting the series, I found that I actually remember more about it than I thought. Like everyone theorizing the deaths of Charlotte’s parents.
Honestly until I saw the photo, I thought charlotte and vendetta were secretly sisters. That the parents sent charlotte to live with her grandma, who had to return to clamburg after a financial crisis.
Okay so I think I know what happen to Charlotte's parents. They are dead. Charlene (Charlotte's grandma) seems a little suspicious. I think she's trying to hide the fact that there parents were dead. I think she told Charlotte that her parents up there and Charlotte thought that they were in space as astronauts.
I've been thinking that as well. I also realized something. Why did Charlotte move from Vermont? To my knowledge, the show never stated she moved with her grandmother to Clamburg.
Everyone in the comments is saying that they think Charlotte's parents were really dead, but I think that with how subversive Making Fiends was, there's a good chance they were alive and equally oblivious as Charlotte.
This episode... when I was little, I used to believe that they actually WERE in a space station. Now that I'm watching this again... I now know that she's an orphan. Her parents are dead. Her Grandma lied to her, and they aren't coming back. :(
So the grandma lied to Charlotte so Charlotte wouldn't cry... so Charlene says "They're living in a space station" and Charlotte believes that lie, but she doesn't know it's a lie.. Maybe I think, when Charlotte gets older, she would realize "That her parents were in space" means. - Icecreamkat

Her parents are dead, so she and her grandma moved from Vermont to get a fresh start. Charlotte is in denial, and she's happy all the time to hide her sadness. this has a resion to why charlette wants to be on the moon so much because charlettes grandma lied they are dead but when she told charlette they lived in a spacestation now so she wants to be closer to them.
Some people say that Charlotte is actually a troll but I see her as a depressed girl who puts on a happy face all the time, she knows about Vendetta’s plans so she plays along, if the series continued and turned into something like Steven Universe or Adventure Time then there might be a episode where Charlotte finally breaks and show her true colors
