Pretty nice consolation bottle lol! I received an 8oz sample of this last year and it didn't impress in a blind vs other buffalo trace products. Not a bottle I will chase but will pick up at MSRP all day. It is a great bottle to trade!
I got a pour of this at my fav spot cuz I had to at some point and was so underwhelmed it actually was shocked. It’s basically a boring Blantons. And Blantons is already just balanced and good and inoffensive but nothing crazy.
There is nothing special about the bottle and I don't understand why it's going for $100-300 on secondary. I'll put this and Blanton's in my blind sample pool. See how they do. Cheers!
These days after a Bourbon, in huge moderation, I always wish I had chosen a delicious high end peated scotch! Less alcohol, higher quality!! Cheers Peter!!
I had the same situation this spring at TW and had my choice of this or Weller 12. Opted for Weller 12 and have been happy with that decision. Once you see a ton of these bottles sitting on a table at $50 each, there's no way you can pay secondary - and for good reason. Cheers!
Like I said in the video I think it's a above average average whiskey. I do like the sweetness and the balance of the spice as well, but would not pay over SRP. I am happy I got the bottle and like you mentioned I will skip buying another bottle.
Once asked how he liked to drink bourbon, Elmer himself responded that he likes it mixed with Sprite or 7-Up 😅 I cannot believe that this bottle goes for as much as it does - I have seen it in my area for $300-$400, which is just pure insanity for a 90-proof single barrel. Same goes for Rock Hill Farm - some day I will get to taste them both, but when a pour at a bar goes for as much (or more) than the MSRP of a whole bottle, fuhgeddaboudit.
My advice is go to a Great bar that has a Large Selection of Spirits. Try out bottle's you have been interested in. This way you can decide on what bottles you really like and are willing to spend money on them. That M.T.Lee... is definitely not worth the resell price. Thanks for your review.
@@whiskeyisajourney I got try many high end bourbons + the bar tenders are amazing. They give me free samples. Support local business. Iv got lots of store single barrel picks to. Just for having conversations. Friendly support. Giving them also my knowledge of 6 years in the Spirit industry. It's not about having all the bourbons in the world. Keep a selection that is your favorites and appreciate. Share with friends & family. Moments 🥃
You mentioned Buffalo Trace has two bourbon mash bills. I believe that there are at least three, if you include their wheated bourbon mash bill used in their Weller’s line. Also, I’m not sure I understand the difference between Blanton’s and ETL. Both are mash bill #2, NAS single barrel bourbons. Do you know? 3:23
Try it at a bar and if you like it that much then go for it. It's easy for me to say it's not with it because I have a bottle, but others don't. Everyone needs to make their own decisions based on their budget. Does that make sense? Cheers!
oh well. I got tired of winning the Total Wine No Prizes and don't have time to camp out during allocation season so I paid the piper and got this for $300 all in. Oh well.
@@whiskeyisajourney haven't opened it yet. I keep looking at it thinking about when I should open it. Was waiting for a special occasion but now I don't know if I could handle sharing it w/ friends who will say how meh it is.
I am a grand reserve member of Total Wine and More. They send out yearly allocated raffles. When you sign up for priority access you can choose which bottle on the list you want by order of preference. I lost out on the original allocation, but a few bottles were left over and this was one of them so I was able to get one.

I have it in my blind samples. I agree with you. It's good but not impressive. And no way worth the second asking price.
Cheers!
Cheers Alan!
Thanks!

Elmer t Lee has always seemed like the most underwhelming Buffalo trace product. Thanks for validating my “I don’t care about this bottle” attitude
You are very welcome. I'm glad I could help. 👍 Cheers!
Nice review! It’s a nice easy flavorful pour. 40.00-65.00 max IMO. Cheers
I am right there with you. Cheers!

Still looking to try the weller 12.
Totally agree. For 40 bucks it is ok, but i would rather have buffalo trace or eagle rare for about thr same price or lower.
I might have to agree with you. In fact I am going to put those matchups into my blind sample pool.
I remember back in 2010, when I started drinking whiskey, the shelves were full of ETL. A lot of the publications said to skip it.

I think Elmer was onto something with the sprite. I agree. Secondary prices on this are crazy!
Thanks! Entry

I'm not sure what the difference is between the Blanton's and ETL... maybe they are taken from a different warehouse. That's a great question.
I like it but would not pay much more than SRP. 🥃
Same. It would be hard for me to justify anymore than SRP. BUT that is easy for me to say now that I have a bottle and tasted it. Cheers!
I have to admit that this unicorn is one that I was looking for. I guess it’s just average. I’m not going to pay three figures for average bourbon.

@@whiskeyisajourneyGood advice, Thanks, keep up the good work
disappointment runs rampant with this one. Is it a 25-30 bottle all day but anything over this price its a serious miss.
I'm happy I got a bottle, but will not be getting another if offered the opportunity again.

@@whiskeyisajourney yeah man. very rough call. Oh well lesson learned. I probably should have waited even more to get one.
How the hell did you get your hands on Elmer T. Lee????!!!!

@@whiskeyisajourney Damn good stuff. I managed to get a bottle around 8 years ago, I should have bought all their bottles at my store!
Crazy just saw this in the wild on Maui for $299…nope
Smart move. Not a chance I'd pay more than $60.
I cant believe people pay $300-500 heck maybe more for this 😒🥃
I know it's crazy! I'd be hard pressed to pay more than $60 for it let alone $100 or more.
It wasn’t worth 35 dollars when it was 35 dollars😢
How long ago was that? I wish we could click our heals, make a wish, and revert back to those days.
@@whiskeyisajourney early 2004 it was a dust collector on shelves at 35 bucks
