    My partner hit his second shot in a tall grassy area then chose to hit a provisional. The first provisional he hit went into a different grassy area, then he proceeded to hit another provisional which he hit in play and was further than his original ball. We then proceeded to look for his original ball which he found and that's the one he played. My question is how many provisional balls can you hit before you have to commit to one of the provisional balls even if you find your original ball.

      You can hit as many provisionals as needed, given that each one is potentially out of bounds or has a good chance to be lost. You must announce each one and be able to identify each of them as 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. Once you select a ball to use, you take the appropriate number of penalty strokes and play on. You can multiple shots and if you find the original ball and you have not played the provisional from a point closer to the hole than the original than you can play the original and no strokes with provisionals count. If you have played the provisional past the point of the original then you have effectively abandoned the original and must play the provisional with appropriate penalties.

    Not being able to hit a provisional ball when the ball was hit into a penalty area doesn’t make sense since stroke and distance is an option for a penalty area. Just makes you have to go back to the tee box if you decide to use that option.

    Let me hit you with a skill testing question. Course is backed up. You're on a driveable par4 that is extremely risky, the group in front is on the green. You shoot an easy lay up, the other 3 members of your group do the same. By this time the green clears and you decide to go for the green. If you lose your ball you have your original shot but it's counted as 3 off the Tee because you lost your drive. But if you drive the green you walk up and pick up your first ball. In that instance does the provisional apply correctly?

      @AndyWeissinger  Рік тому

      If you hit your Leigh up in the fairway first, and then decided to go for the green with the driver, you would have effectively declared that ball in the fairway lost and your tee shot from the driver, would be hitting three.

    Only if you find the ball, then there is no penalty on the provisional ball so long as it is equal or further away from the hole as to the first ball? If you don't find the ball then it's a 2 stroke penalty?

    Is playing a provisional ball only allowed on tee shots?

    • @apaulmcdonough2170

      No, anytime you hit a Ball that goes OB or might be Lost (Trees, , Deep Rough, etc.) you should Hit a Provisional.
      Hit your 3rd Shot on a Par 5 - "oops!" - Drop 4 and Hit 5 would be the Provisional's outcome, if you couldn't find your "3rd Stroke" Ball in time.

    So say I play a provisional because I thought there was a chance that the ball was lost outside of a penalty area, but when I get up to where I believe it went I find that it is a red penalty area but still cannot find the ball, what are my options? I assume the provisional is no longer a provisional and you would take red penalty relief for the first ball. Is this right?

    • @carstenlarsen8144
      @carstenlarsen8144 2 роки тому

      that does happen- as you aproche the area- suddenly you se the red marks being a red penalty area.
      Otherwise if it is stil possible it can hide ind the rough- you have to declare it as lost- and take the provi ball.

    Is it required to go look for lost ball?

      No it is not

      @@AndyWeissinger but if your other playuers in the ball want ti o go looking you can denie them doing that
      and
      if they find your ball- then it is in play- presuming found within 3 min searchperiod.

    Soooooo, you are saying I can hit a provisional on EVERY hole and play that ball with NO penalty ??.. so, basically I always have a choice of which ball to play ?? That makes no sense ?

    • @AndyWeissinger
      @AndyWeissinger  2 роки тому +1

      Only if you think the ball may be lost or out of bounds. If your ball is clearly in play and you hit another it would be considered practice and you would be assessed a general penalty of two strokes.

    • @apaulmcdonough2170

      Original Ball lies 1, Provisional Ball lies 3 because it is potentially Stroke and Distance for Lost or OB Ball.
      The Provisional Ball cannot be chosen as your S&D Relief if you find your Original Ball - in time - and decide it is an Unplayable Ball.
      To take S&D Relief then, you would have to Return to where you had hit the Original Ball from.

    What am I hitting if I find my first ball?

    • @AndyWeissinger
      @AndyWeissinger  2 роки тому

      You would just be hitting 2. The strokes do not count unless you hit one of them from a position closer to the hole than the first ball. If you do that then you have officially abandoned your first ball.

    nono..you can not just freely chose any of the 2 balls u find - and call that the provi one-
    It could be a 3. ball- witch u know we very often find as looking for the 1. one..
    therefor- u have to tell any time how u marked your own ball(s)
    If not abel to name it BEFORE you go looking- - go back and take nr 5.....

    I was playing solo on a par 3 course. so rules are fairly loose. but I chose to hit a provisional on one of the holes, while I shot the provisional more to the right it rolled leftwards a lot. I eventually found both balls about a foot from each other but just on the edge of some bushes.
    Neither ball was playable from where it was but both were found. I picked up the provisional and put it in my pocket not taking a penalty and then took a penalty for dropping the original ball in a playable spot to the side of the bush. probably more than a clubs length but further from the hole so I allowed it.
    Did I score this wrong or was that ok to disregard the provisional with no penalty?

    • @AndyWeissinger
      @AndyWeissinger  Рік тому

      You are okay to abandon the provisional ball as long as you found your original ball…no penalty

    I've been watching several of your very helpful videos....however I cannot understand why you continue to use faulty audio equipment. You have a bad connection to the wireless mic and it's EXTREMELY distracting.

    My opponent ended up losing both his first ball and provisional ball. He took a drop on his 1st ball without regard for the second, so he's hitting 3. Is this correct?
