Shanghai Shikumen houses, a fusion of east and west, witness city's hustle and bustle over a century

Red bricks wall,
褐瓦坡面屋顶
brown tile roof,
以条石做门框
Stone-carved door frame,
乌漆实木做门扇
and door leaf made of black-painted solid wood.
“石箍门”
“Shigumen”,
后来渐渐被人读成了“石库门”
was gradually pronounced “Shikumen”.
如今 石库门建筑群
Nowadays, Shikumen buildings
依然是不少上海居民生息的基本场所
are still the places to live for many Shanghainese.
