Having previously raised endangered tigers and big cats in his family home, Giles travels to Laos in Asia, where sun and moon bears are under threat due to illegal bear bile farming. I call my dog a sun bear all the time. He’s goofy and rolls around in the sun spots on the grass often and he sounds like a bear.

Mary is a darling! Guessing she'll have to be introduced to other sun bears soon as those human-bear play fights aren't going to be sustainable as she gets bigger. Though big animals co-existing with humans do tend to learn over time we're more fragile than they are and handle us accordingly - but she's still just a baby and so it starts to become a bit of a gamble rough-housing with her.
@AM Exactly. As a matter of fact, an adult sun bear "killed" a human being.
@AM never heard of a sloth doing pretty much anything, i doubt they can split skulls ^^
Correct. Mary was tiny and in a terrible state when we rescued her, requiring 24 hour special care. At this point we didn't yet have a cub nursery build (we're a small struggling Australia wildlife charity - although that being said, we are currently rescuing far more bears than any other wildlife charity worldwide - 47 bears rescued since January 2018!) so she needed to be hand-reared inside our CEO's house. Normally we'd have a cub nursery for her and potentially other cubs, so as to keep human contact to a minimum. Regardless as you can see, it doesn't take long for sun bear cubs (and moon bear cubs - we are the world leader in rescuing and rehabilitating sun bear and moon bears cubs) to become destructive and dangerous. We were lucky with Mary, she is an incredibly sweet and highly intelligent bear. Nonetheless many months ago we ceased all contact with her, but luckily she now has a large enclosure and sun bear friends - watch the BBC Two Bears About The House to hear Mary's story and many others which the BBC experienced while with us in Laos (where I'm tying this from) over a year. Couldn't even begin to express what I would give to have the life of one of those handlers right now. House, car, savings, its all valueless right now. But that life, that type of purpose or contribution, priceless.
I had a Sergeant in the Army who was a martial arts in something with a black belt and he was also a French boxer and a pro UFC fighter. Anyways, his nickname was “The SunBear”. Never knew it was a real animal. The personality of how this Sun Bear acts resembles my old Sergeant though. Crazy in all aspects.
She is very active and playful. it must be very difficult to film. Lovely baby sun bear! Help keep the rare animals safe. Thank you so much for your effort.

Baby bears are a real delight, along with most other wild baby critters. But baby bears are not pets. They will become large and powerful predators/omnivores, and their idea of play will be fatal for most humans.
Also, I've had kittens and puppies, and they are incredibly destructive--almost as destructive as young humans.
Trying to keep a baby bear around the house is asking for both you and the bear to become un-homed.

Not easy, but fun! I hope she gets some sun bear company one day - if only to save the humans around her! It won't be long before it'll be too dangerous to be with her. Not that she'll turn nasty, but her idea of play could be lethal with no intention on her part to harm anyone. It's wonderful that she's in a place that will care for her as long as she needs it, but it's heartbreaking that it has to exist.
