I dunno. Knowing how intelligent he is, how he uses his intelligence and the people he's connected to (namely his brother), I'd say he's pretty powerful.
You know for sure you intimidate your kids when as grown ups, master deduction man and master manipulation man cringe when you verbally reprimand and tell them off.
Two of the most smartest and powerful men in all of England still have to hid cigarettes from thire own mom. Mama homes: 'Are you 2 smoking?!' Mycroft: N-No!! Sherlock: It was Mycroft!! Funny and adorable.
You could've just say "smartest", or "most clever" or "most intelligent", but you choose "most smartest", if they could read this they'll eat you alive
"Are you two smoking???" A confident "No!" from Mycroft, and an instant, "It was Mycroft.....(not me!.... i am innocent)" from Sherlock.....U kno who is the older and the younger sibling instantly......they DID have a normal childhood!!!!
+samuraipanda85 Remember when we saw the first scene with Mycroft and Sherlock? Mycroft warned Sherlock that his activities would upset Mummy. And if a man who can start wars is worried about upsetting Mummy, then Mummy must be a force to be reckoned with.
I love how sherlock just declines the job with out knowing what it was just cause mycroft told him too. shows you how much sherlock actually trusts mycroft
Typical younger brother, snitching on the older one. And then, once the coast is clear, the true nature of the matter is revealed. Honestly, he looks every inch the naughty school boy who got away with burning the school house down. I wonder if filming this scene brought back any childhood memories of trying to get away with something as a child, especially since his mother is playing his mother.
***** It would depend on the situation. Most of the time, when the older one snitches on the younger, it comes across as annoying because the older sibling's word will be virtually taken as gospel. Also, the older sibling, most of the time will refuse to allow themselves to get caught in a situation where the younger one can tell on them. So, when the younger sibling has the perfect opportunity to snitch on the older sibling, and hopefully not get into trouble themselves, they will take it. (I was the oldest child for about 10 years, until my parents adopted 3 siblings older than me, so I'm very familiar with how the pecking order is.)
The "Ice Man" who starts wars and holds a "minor" position in the Government and The "High-functioning Sociopath" who chases down criminals halfway around the world for 2 years and was subjected to torture in a Serbian prison are in fact, still afraid of their mummy. :D lol!
But according to Mark Gatiss, Sherlock has "done it" although he didn't say who with. My guess is with Molly after Eurus made him realise that he loved her - that's why Molly comes bounding into the room at the very end of S4 - that's my opinion, anyway.
Possibly - we all know what Irene's invitations of "let's have dinner" were a euphemism for, lol, but remember Sherlock's response was "Why would I want to have *dinner* with you if I wasn't hungry?" I think Sherlock is fascinated by Irene because she's the only one who matches him in cunning; he saved her life basically so he'd have someone to flex his intellect against and stop him getting bored (and we all know how Sherlock hates to be bored!) but he doesn't fancy her. Irene's intelligence lies in her cunning and deviousness; Molly's intelligence lies in her ability to see straight to the heart of a situation and set about problem solving it. (Remember when Sherlock says "Molly, I think I'm going to die," Molly not only knows immediately what he's really saying, but shoots straight back with "What do you need? Even John says that Molly is "the only person who sees through your bullshit.") I would like to think that Eurus made Sherlock realise what was under his nose all along and that they got together at the end of S4 - Molly's smile as she comes bounding into the room is quite a big clue :)
I love how two grown man, one rules the whole britain in secret and the other solves the impossible cases, still act like 5-year-olds when it comes to their mom
I really live off this interaction here. It's brilliant writing in so many ways, especially when Mycroft says "I have a job offer I would like you to decline." Despite the bursts of animosity (see the "are you smoking" pass the blame) and long strings of competitiveness between them (he could have said "I accept to spite you"), Sherlock trusts his brother's intelligence and foresight enough to accept first, ask second. There's no fluffiness, but it expresses the same feeling as brotherly sentiment.
All I can say is that if you're a grown man and you're still on some level afraid of your mother scolding you...then she did a hell of a job and should be rewarded, applauded, and an example to follow
"are you two smoking?" "NO."//"Mycroft" Mycroft: "Hey! I didn't even blame on you! Mom, he's smoking too!!" Sherlock: "You ask me to join! Mom, he forced me to join with him!" Mycroft: "NO I DIDN'T!" Sherlock: "YES YOU DID!" ... and bro-fight begin
*Mrs. Holmes walks out the back door and no one notices her until...* Mrs. Holmes: Are you two smoking?! *Mycroft and Sherlock turn around quickly, hiding their cigarette behind their back.* Mycroft: No! Sherlock: It was Mycroft! *Mrs. Holmes gives the boys a stern look as she goes back inside.* (Here we see how much of a little brother Sherlock is to Mycroft, selling him out because of his mummy.)
I love this scene so much. I don't know how often i have watched this video now. Hope we get to see more of Sherlock and Mycroft. I love these little brotherly moments between these two :3
My favorite part of this scene, besides the scene as a whole, is Sherlock exhaling when she shuts the door. Also, the fact that afterwards they just go back to their conversation as though it never happened- with no comment from Mycroft that Sherlock tried to blame him. I sort of like the idea that, contrary to most younger siblings blaming their older siblings, when Sherlock blames Mycroft it's true and Mycroft just always finds a way out of getting in trouble for it. OR he never refutes it because he keeps Sherlock out of trouble.
At first I didn't liked that they took away Mycroft's obsession for food (although they gave us a wonderful fat Mycroft in the Abominable Bride) but smoke is a good substitute to show how Mycroft is slowly killing himself
Am I the only one who is noticing this? Mr. and Mrs. Holmes both portrayed by two fantastic and talented people, Timothy Carlton and Wanda Ventham who by God's grace got married and created this equally and amazingly talented consulting dragon some 41 years ago?
as a younger sibling too (with a 7 year difference between me and my brother just like Sherlock and Mycroft at that), I can confidently say that Sherlock's response exudes "younger sibling" energy. our first instinct when something goes wrong and we're the suspects is and will always be *"blame the brother"*
That moment when they looked so cool and confident smoking outside and then their faces instantly changed coz they're still scared of their mom😂 Oh yes Sherlock is definitely the younger one.
Sherlock’s move to blame Mycroft is quite smart. The smoke are visible and she could probably smell the cigarettes, so it’d make more sense to blame than lying
Mycroft Holmes: the most powerful man in the British government Sherlock Holmes: the worlds first/ greatest consulting detective Both still afraid of their mum 😂😂 Wanda Ventham must be one tough lady
Oh, yeah: Sherlock is DEFINITELY the younger brother.
Younger sibling throws older one under the proverbial bus?
giligara30492 this is like all brothers and sisters problem XDD
Sparky Elizabeth And also get him in trouble, all the time.
giligara30492
Sooooo true!!!😂
By the way 999th liker😉
itwasmycroft
The most powerful man in the British government.
The most brilliant investigator in all of England.
Still frightened of Mummy's wrath.
preach
Truth has been spoken
This is because she is the most powerful person in the political world.
You know you're an intimidating mother when master manipulator and master deduction man cringe when you tell them off.
so there is a better investigator outside england?
"Are you two smoking?"
"No."
"It was Mycroft!"
XD Wow, Sherlock.
The mother of the two smartest guys in Britain ain't taking her sons shit.
Ronin Elenion defiently the younger sibling XD
Ronin Elenion THIS IS LIKE ALL YOUNGER SIBLING WILL SAY WHEN MOM CAUGHT THEM DOING BAD THINGS
The two most powerful men in Britain still have to hide their cigarettes from their mother. Think about that for a second.
Kitty Grimm Mrs. Holmes is unimpressed with their badassery :) Someone's got to keep those boys in line ;)
You can be the badass of all badasses in the world and your mother is still your mother. :)
I dunno. Knowing how intelligent he is, how he uses his intelligence and the people he's connected to (namely his brother), I'd say he's pretty powerful.
The fact that Sherlock's first instinct is to blame Mycroft... great bit of character building there.
The Jenna Pearl Classic little brother
You know for sure you intimidate your kids when as grown ups, master deduction man and master manipulation man cringe when you verbally reprimand and tell them off.
Aw this is why I love being the baby of 3.
Siblings snitching each other, sure brings back memory.
I always love when Sherlock just throws Mycroft under the bus there.
Clearly he's the younger brother lmao 😂
And yet his mom said Sherlock was always more grown-up than Mycroft 😂
And then nobody mentions it afterwards.😂
I can change the like to 999 likes or 1 K so much power
@@clarelay5032 Too slow!😉
Fun Fact:
Sherlock parents are in real life benedicts parents! :D
Just like Mary is Martin's wife. :D
+Hans Tonra WHAT
BIGSLEEP!At The Neighbourhood Mary in the show is Martin's real wife. :)
+Hans Tonra That's Epic and Awesome! *wink wink*
BIGSLEEP!At The Neighbourhood Ikr!
Because no matter how old you get, or how powerful you become, mother will always be mother
The World's greatest detective and the man who basically runs the British government. Both afraid of their mother. LOL XD
Who wouldn't be?
+Ben Wasserman According to their father, they both took their badassery from her xd
Lol
They face death, chaos and uncertainty in the face of doom. That's jack shit compared to a momma's fury.
Ben Wasserman Especially since Mrs. Holmes is Wanda Ventham, Benedict's actual mother
typical younger sibling response.
"Are you too smoking ?!"
" No."
" It was Mycroft !"
My little brother remained a child ... Disappointing.
+Holmes Mycroft It wasn't Sherlock who upset Mummy, Mycroft.
It's a Sibling thing, it never quite goes away.
Two of the most smartest and powerful men in all of England still have to hid cigarettes from thire own mom.
Mama homes: 'Are you 2 smoking?!'
Mycroft: N-No!!
Sherlock: It was Mycroft!!
Funny and adorable.
Lol "most smartest" XD
You could've just say "smartest", or "most clever" or "most intelligent", but you choose "most smartest", if they could read this they'll eat you alive
Brian Ortiz Perhaps He is learning English.
Brian Ortiz Ahm, sorry but why? I'm not from England :D
Hermia Evelina because it's incorrect grammar.
Sherlock is such a younger brother.
Yes! Tattletale. Lol
Sherlock totally used to blame everything on Mycroft when they were young.
"Who set fire to my curtains?!?"
"...It was Mycroft!"
Says 'fire and death' lol
....Well now this entire thread just looks like I'm talking to myself >:|
Sherlock would totally do that XD he probably experiments a lot when he was a kid!
"Are you two smoking???"
A confident "No!" from Mycroft, and an instant, "It was Mycroft.....(not me!.... i am innocent)" from Sherlock.....U kno who is the older and the younger sibling instantly......they DID have a normal childhood!!!!
yeah that's exactly how siblings react
He hits his vocal range from his character of Smaug when says "dragonslayer". My goodness, it's hot!
Elise Quackenbush AAAAH
I cracked up when he said "It was Mycroft"
I just love Mycroft's facial expression when they get caught lol
Mycroft : No !
Sherlock : It was Mycroft !
Sooo cute c:
I don't care how intelligent these two are, Mother is still scary. "It was Mycroft!"
Knowing how scary both brothers can be, I can only imagine how scary Mama Holmes can be when she's angry.
Oh that'd be interesting to watch...
That is the number one rule in the universe: Everyone be scared of their mother. It's fact.
Kitty Grimm
I believe she can turn absolutely monsterous.
+samuraipanda85 Remember when we saw the first scene with Mycroft and Sherlock? Mycroft warned Sherlock that his activities would upset Mummy. And if a man who can start wars is worried about upsetting Mummy, then Mummy must be a force to be reckoned with.
No matter how old you are, Mummy is still scary! Greatest scene ever.
Two of the most powerful and intelligent men in Britain still have to hide their cigarettes from mummy. Brilliant!
I love how sherlock just declines the job with out knowing what it was just cause mycroft told him too.
shows you how much sherlock actually trusts mycroft
Nice! :)
Adore this scene... And love that, that is Benedict's mom!
This scene had me thinking, how many times did Sherlock throw Mycroft under the bus as kids.
This shows that they are geniuses. They are terrified of their mother. Smart boys.
I agree! XD
I really want to know how their mother can just put such fear into them so easily
it's simple..... she is their mother...that's enought 😅
Every child has a right to be afraid of their mother.
The mother of a master detective and manipulator... head of the British government isn't gonna take her sons shit.
Only a woman like that could raise two men like them.
Mr Holmes senior said in one scene that they got their brains from their mother. Nuff said.
I wanna know about their childhood SO BADLY XD
"I'll be mother." "And there is a whole childhood in a nutshell." Haha I reckon that summed up what their childhood was like.
pikaace be careful what you wish for
-are you two smoking?
-no!
-it's Mycroft!
hahaa, best part eveeerr!
Typical younger brother, snitching on the older one. And then, once the coast is clear, the true nature of the matter is revealed. I wonder if filming this scene brought back any childhood memories of trying to get away with something as a child, especially since his mother is playing his mother.
she is? wow.
***** Yes. Sherlock's parents are played by Benedict Cumberbatch's real life parents.
I wonder wether she asks that often in real life :p
Sooo... It doesn't work the opposite way? When the older one snitches on the younger one? #onlychildsquestions
***** It would depend on the situation. Most of the time, when the older one snitches on the younger, it comes across as annoying because the older sibling's word will be virtually taken as gospel. Honestly, Mycroft is such a bad influence on his baby brother, I mean Sherlock was doing so well with the whole 'quitting smoking' thing!
+Noor Bashir Just goes to show how Mycroft is slowly killing him.
+Got Back in the Kitchen But they do love each other more than anything
+Noor Bashir More than Sherlock loves John? Eh... I don't know.
+Got Back in the Kitchen it's more brotherly love in season 4 I really want to see a heart to heart between Mycroft and Sherlock......we can all dream
+Noor Bashir Yes they does.. however they're the Holmes. They have their unique way to love a person.
The "Ice Man" who starts wars and holds a "minor" position in the Government and The "High-functioning Sociopath" who chases down criminals halfway around the world for 2 years and was subjected to torture in a Serbian prison are in fact, still afraid of their mummy. :D lol!
Sherlock's nickname is The Virgin according Irene Adler
Austin Boylan I know.
But according to Mark Gatiss, Sherlock has "done it" although he didn't say who with. My guess is with Molly after Eurus made him realise that he loved her - that's why Molly comes bounding into the room at the very end of S4 - that's my opinion, anyway.
Well, Benedict believes that Sherlock did have sex with Irene Adler after A Scandal In Belgravia lol. But we may never know lol.
I find it amusing how those two jump when mum shows up and catches them smoking. Lol.
He's not the dragon slayer...no...he's the dragon!
Desolation of Smaug indeed.
I really live off this interaction here. It's brilliant writing in so many ways, especially when Mycroft says "I have a job offer I would like you to decline." entirety of their childhood summed up right there
Mine too! Lol
It was mycroft!
Love how he blames his big brother... classic :D
this is probably the best scene in all of this TV series.
TRU
I agree
Mommy is always scary no matter how old you are
I love how Sherlock immediately blames it on Mycroft c:
All I can say is that if you're a grown man and you're still on some level afraid of your mother scolding you...then she did a hell of a job and should be rewarded, applauded, and an example to follow
Aw heck yeah!!!
Smaug's voice range at the beginning =D
"are you two smoking?"
"NO."//"Mycroft"
Mycroft: "Hey! I didn't even blame on you! Mom, he's smoking too!!"
Sherlock: "You ask me to join! Mom, he forced me to join with him!"
Mycroft: "NO I DIDN'T!"
Sherlock: "YES YOU DID!"
... and bro-fight begin
*Mrs. Holmes walks out the back door and no one notices her until...*
Mrs. Holmes: Are you two smoking?!

Sherlock: It was Mycroft!

(Here we see how much of a little brother Sherlock is to Mycroft, selling him out because of his mummy.)
Mycroft turns all the way around,it's a surprise Mama Holmes didn't see the cigarette
+ProxyNumber001 Oh, she probably did. She gave both of them a look that said, "I know you boys are lying."
***** That could be as well. Either way, Mummy knew. Mummies always know. : )
How did you cross out your sentence?
***** Thanks. : )
hahahhaha... Are you two smoking?! Both: No!!! Sherlock: It´s Mycroft Hahahahah
Can we just talk about how Mycroft really does care for his little brother? Even telling him he doesn't want him to take a MI6 job?
Love Mycroft's expression....
literally can't stop watching this bc it's so funny that the first thing that came to mind was, "it was mycroft"
"No."
"It was Mycroft."
I am an eldest and my brother uses this line all the time. True pain.
I love this scene so much. I don't know how often i have watched this video now. Hope we get to see more of Sherlock and Mycroft. I love these little brotherly moments between these two :3
These two - they're still little boys at heart when it comes to their parents!
i laughed so hard when i first saw this, lmao
Smauglock!
Mycroft: The Most Powerful Man in The English Government
Sherlock: The Most Brilliant detective in all of England.
Mom: The Scariest thing alive.
I can confirm that this is accurate behaviour. Whenever I got caught with something I used to blame one of my older sisters...
My favorite part of this scene, besides the scene as a whole, is Sherlock exhaling when she shuts the door.
Also, the fact that afterwards they just go back to their conversation as though it never happened- with no comment from Mycroft that Sherlock tried to blame him. "It was Mycroft!"
typical siblings.. :DDDD :3
0:04. No, we know you are the dragon.
Are you two smoking?
Sherlock: Just Mycroft
shes like me and my siste XD
OMG SO CUTE AHHH
I wonder if that was meant to be a hobbit reference. He said "dragon slayer" in his deep Smaug voice. I hope so! I LOVED the hobbit.
i love how Mycroft says no and Sherlock is just it was Mycroft!
I love how Sherlocks first instinct is to blame Mycroft if that isnt a clear symptom of middle child syndrome then idk what is 😂😂
My answer to everything.
IT WAS MYCROFT!
When Mycroft turned his face was so innocent XD
At first I didn't liked that they took away Mycroft's obsession for food (although they gave us a wonderful fat Mycroft in the Abominable Bride) but smoke is a good substitute to show how Mycroft is slowly killing himself
As an older sibling "it was" happens a lot
Don't mess with mamma Holmes
The best part was that Ben was in The Hobbit as a dragon.
"dragon slayer"
Ben's parents are friggin' adorable!!
That's it. This is the purest sibling interaction these nerds have had in the whole show 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love that scene
this scene is so adorable idk omg its sooo cute :333
Am I the only one who is noticing this? Mr. and Mrs. Holmes both portrayed by two fantastic and talented people, Timothy Carlton and Wanda Ventham who by God's grace got married and created this equally and amazingly talented consulting dragon some 41 years ago?
love this scene :D
''I T W A S M Y C R O F T''
as a younger sibling too (with a 7 year difference between me and my brother just like Sherlock and Mycroft at that), I can confidently say that Sherlock's response exudes "younger sibling" energy. our first instinct when something goes wrong and we're the suspects is and will always be *"blame the brother"*
Sherlock: A dragon slayer? Is that what you think of me?
Bilbo: No, it's what I think of me.
Sherlock: John?
Bilbo: Smaug?
My mother would have thrown me out of she ever caught me smoking.
That moment when they looked so cool and confident smoking outside and then their faces instantly changed coz they're still scared of their mom😂 Oh yes Sherlock is definitely the younger one.
Goes to show no matter who you are, the wrath of your mum will always be above you.
BEST ... SCENE ... EVER!!!!!!
Sherlock’s move to blame Mycroft is quite smart. The smoke are visible and she could probably smell the cigarettes, so it’d make more sense to blame than lying
The way he says slayerr 😍😍😍
MY
FAV
SCENE
EVER
XD
"Mycroft!!!!"
I love how the parents are really Cumberbatch's real parents
Mycroft Holmes: the most powerful man in the British government
Sherlock Holmes: the worlds first/ greatest consulting detective
Both still afraid of their mum 😂😂 Wanda Ventham must be one tough lady
I've always said that I didn't think Benedict had to act too hard during that bit. 😁
Brilliant deduction from mommy there, don't know how she even knew they were smoking
Most powerful men in England taken down by mommy
1 dislike. who? I think, Moriarty doesn't like this video
0:12 lol
No, Epic and Awesome. I'm not big on watching awesomeness :)
No matter who you are, you fear mothers anger...
It's always like this with brothers!😂
"no
IT WAS MYCROFT"
As a younger brother with only one sibling. I can confirm this is what we do best.
hahahahahh 'It was Mycroft"
